NOTE: You can take the sword to the opposite altar to transform it into the other version, so if you have the sword of light and want the sword of darkness you just need to bring it to the altar in Fog Rift Catacomb. You still can't have two swords in one run, but you can change back and forth!. Thanks to @tekaid23 for pointing this out.

A correction: you can actually pick up the sword at any of the altars, and it will turn the other two into the the respective light and dark versions. I found my stone sheathed sword in the fog rift catacombs.

Do yourself a favor and do Fog Rift Catacombs FIRST, so if you decide to switch between the Light & Dark versions later on you don't have to run through an entire dungeon you've already finished.

You can also convert the sword of light to dark if you change your mind. Just go to the relevant alter, it works the same as if you had still had the stone sheathed sword in your inv. I'm guessing the opposite is true (dark to light) but I haven't checked.

There are actually two swords per playthrough in completely different spots. So you can get a light and dark without going to NG+. You can also freely go back and forth to each alter and change it from light to dark as many times as you want. You keep your upgrade level too.

it’s 3 locations. if u find the sword at one . the other 2 locations will be ur light altar or dark altar

U dont actually have to wake the furnace golem just go around to the back right of the building and u can easily jump in without dealing with the golem.

i already completed the fog rift catacombs before i got the stone sheathed sword. i didnt know what this altar was for. i just went back with the sword and the altar is eead. nothing here. so now what do i do? So if i give my sword of light to my buddy can i then take a second stone sheathed sword and get the sword of darkness?

Make sure you’re using “Hefty Furnace Pots.” I was having a similar issue because I was trying to light the golem with the “Hefty Fire Pot.” Two different things and it was a frustrating realization lol.

Make your own video if you insist someone should "take it down" for "misinformation", or better yet - try it for yourself, and see that it works. You can get the sword at the Ruins of Unte, or any of the other two altars. And you take the sword to the respective altar to turn it to light/dark. This was addressed in his comments. Keep your outrageous, irrelevant opinions to yourself.
