I remember reading this theory that the rot-crippled & outnumbered Radahn did not die an honourable death in the Caelid Wilds. When we fight him again at the Gate of Divinity, he is but a puppet of Miquella, lacking the warrior’s spirit, but once we demonstrate our skill as a warrior (beginning of phase 2) Radahn’s soul is reignited with the passion for combat. We finally granted him the honourable death he wanted.

Your theory of Miquella being there with Finlay while he was carrying Malenia back to the Haligtree is a really solid answer to something that's always nagged at me from the base game. Marching from the Haligtree to Caelid would require going through Leyndell. Why would Morgott let Malenia through twice - and once with an army - without a fuss? But now it makes sense. Miquella charmed him and the knights of Leyndell both times.

I think Radahn is probably the most mysterious of the demi gods we know of. His motivations are always vague and it doesn't help how much he's been "Chadified" by a lot of the fans. I think what I can conclusively say about Radahn is he romanticizes the past and has a hard time letting go. He holds Radagon's and Godfrey's past deeds in high regards and literally cannot let go of his beloved horse, despite the size difference. Dude can travel just fine without a steed, but chooses to keep Leonard by his side even through the battle of Aoenia. It is sweet that he loves Leonard so much, but also sad that he couldn't let this poor horse retire after probably countless excursions together. My theory is Radahn did make some sort of promise to Miquella, but after inheriting a great rune and The Shattering, his intentions probably changed. I just can't wrap my head around why he would need to die any kind of death to become Miquella's consort. With the presence of the Abductor Virgins in Caelid, it makes me think the battle wasn't just for killing Radahn. Otherwise, why not 1v1 another seasoned champion? Why put Sellia and the entire region at risk? Why did Rykard send a backup force of his automatons otherwise? Many questions that Micheal Zaki probably won't answer lol.
@bigchungus68272 ай бұрын
Best reason I can come up with for him needing to die is that he wouldn't agree while alive or alternatively Miquella failed to charm him (whether by lack of direct contact or however his charm works, or via Radahn being able to resist the charm due to his Rune (like he can resist the Rot)). I can't come up with a solid reason why he'd need to die if he actually agreed with or supported Miquella's goals, but I don't really see any solid evidence that he did.
@GreebleClown2 ай бұрын
What if Radahn had agreed to Miquella’s plan to go into another body because they both wanted to rule without being influenced by the Elden Ring or the Greater Will? But he also only wanted to die in his original body by an honorable death? Was he actually being charmed and controlled by Miquela? Wish we could have asked, curse our mostly silent protagonist… Though I do agree that Freja completely misunderstood Radahn, he didn’t necessarily enjoy pointless war and bloodshed he enjoyed the skill and challenge.
@blizzardgaming70702 ай бұрын
I lean against Radahn wanting anything to do with Miquella, given how he fought against Malenia in the battle of Aeonia. A battle which resulted in the death of one of his oldest friends and the first of the Redmanes, that being Ogha who's ashes are found in war dead catacombs. The whole body swapping thing feels poorly thought out writing wise but would make sense of Radahn could resist Miquella's charms, just stuff him in an already charmed body.

@@blizzardgaming7070 Even more so, Radahn specifically learned to hold the stars in place. I don't think he did that just for the fun of it, and given he was Carian royalty it's more than likely that he knew the connection between the stars and "fate". If he was trying to stop his "fate" and stop Miq from doing the bad no no touch on him, that seems like a very sensible course of action. Plus we do know Radahn had at least some ability to resist divine influence, given his Great Rune made him able to resist the Rot for untold ages, and Miq specifically wanted to bring back the Radahn who had yet to become the starscourge, according to the greatswords you get from the dlc remembrance.

I'm afraid, in both cases, all we have is the respective words of biased observers, people who only knew Radahn, and no matter how close, were only subservient to him. And we may be giving Radahn himself too much credit as to his motivations as well. The Shattering wasn't a patriotic or liberation war. It was vie for power affair, and for all we know, Radahn may have indeed truly given multiple oaths, to multiple people, with the ultimate intent being only known to him and him alone. We are aware to at least 3 such oaths, from the 3 NPC's we meet, and possibly fight in ER and the DLC, and they ALL contradict each other to some extent. Given the post completion nature of the final Miquela scene, i am inclined to believe that Radahn's oath to Miquela was the most "binding" one, or at the very least, the most "binding" one, but even that is a bit circumstantial. But if we try and weigh each oath, then what are we left with? We have one oath, that is made to his noble guard, one that is made to his comrade in arms, and one that is made to a family member. Even all the meta thinking set aside, that alone makes me think that IF, Radahn was being honest to anyone, it would be to Miquela. But that's a big IF, and the cynic in me (and Fromsoft games fan), can't help but suspect that Radahn just played all sides to the best of his abilities, and he would have broke no pardon to take the full advantage of any given situation. Now, one can argue Miquela charmed him long ago, even before the Shattering was a distant though, but that wouldn't really the other oaths any more sincere. In fact, it would probably make them less so.

I know there’s a surprisingly convincing argument to be made that Radahn was down with being Miquella’s consort, and that perhaps his duel with Malenia was a way for him to die honorably while fulfilling his part in the Secret Rite. However, the fact that it’s the BATTLE of Aeonia rather than just a simple duel, speaks volumes. True, it did devolve into a duel, but only after both armies were decimated. To me this indicates a concerted effort by Radahn to halt Miquella’s plans. Given the unwavering faith his soldiers have in him, I don’t think he’s the kind of general to needlessly send soldiers to die in a meat grinder when only one person needed to die.

Radahn was young when he met and recruited Freya and it was obvious why. She’s a powerful enough warrior to not only serve him, but to survive to our tarnished timeline (likely fighting the entire time, possibly even helping lady Leda cull all the other needle knights). A young Radhan would have respected her lust for battle. But I think that her lust for battle was greater than even his own. I mean look at Miquella’s top 3 followers, a Monk who loves to fight, the most battle hungry Redmane to exist, and Leda a psychopath with a pension for murder. You can often tell the quality of a leader by his followers. I mean, I think it was no accident that we got to see and learn so much about the type of people that followed Messmer by contrast. Miquella is indeed, a monster.

I'm not expert lvl on the lore, but I have kind've a feeling that Radahn may have been okay with being the Consort. Except that he had a desire "for an Honorable Death" and wouldn't have it any other way, or couldn't by his fate as a war god. It may be why Malenia was sent/tricked to fight him, or she knew and did so out of Loyalty to Miquella.

First, it’s Lanya, now it’s Freyja. Why does Miyazaki hate tomboy so much???

I've been wondering about this for awhile but how exactly did Freyja enter the Shadow Realm? Until we kill him, Mohg is extremely overprotective of Miquella (and probably only allowed Ansbach to touch Miquella's hand) So I have a theory and it mostly involves the whole "All manners of death enter the Realm of Shadow" and it's possible she died in the Battle of Aeonia, stumbling in the Shadow Realm but the rot remained (somehow) until Miquella came along and I really only say this because I still believe Miquella cocooned himself during the battle or before Of course this can be wrong but other than Hornsent and Ansbach it bothers me how we don't get any information on how the rest got into the Realm of Shadow And I do agree that despite being Radahn's strongest knight she did not understand Radahn or his wishes only his strength (Though off topic, I made a discovery and it quite literally blew my mind despite me arguing for "Radahn may have agreed to be Miquella's Consort side" But I have both the Consort and Starscourge sets and while wearing the Consort set I thought "He has the Haligtree symbol on his cape that makes sense, Miquella made the body and armor" but I wondered if the Starscourge set had a different symbol and to my surprise Radahn had the Hailgtree symbol on his cape this entire time And while it's difficult to make out on his actual model because of all the Cleanrot spears and scarlet moss? The symbol resembles the Hailgtree But what do you think?)

why does freyja look like Casca in the thumbnail?
@square-table-gaming2 ай бұрын
It's actually fairly close to the in-game model
@AwwGeeZ19832 ай бұрын
This is interesting to me, cause I wasn't looking at Casca, BUT I am letting '97 Berserk influence my style a lot lately, especially in the color scheme, so maybe that's part of it. My main anime influence on Freyja was actually Noi from Dorohedoro. Same basic face shape, same nose, same body.

Was mohg always going to be the body even if radahn had died in the war? What would have happened if morgot killed him first? Why has miquilla never kissed melania to at least try to remove the rot instead of the needle? Is he disgusted by his own twin who he controls? Where are all the temples and towers that were run by Godwyn and where are his two fingers? (Just spitballing here)
@square-table-gaming2 ай бұрын
The needle is because of Malenias direct connection to the goddess of rot. They're linked so the needle is needed to literally combat the influence of an outer god
@travisjackson53982 ай бұрын
@@square-table-gaminggotcha but it’s still kinda weird that there’s multiple ways to cure rot but only the needle was placed on malania and nothing else was attempted not even sharing his own blood to ward it off like he does in the boss fight strangely enough making it harder to cause rot on radahn
@kevincoughlin34552 ай бұрын
So if Miquella could heal the rot with a kiss, does that mean he could have healed Melania but chose not to? If so, I wonder what the reason would be.
@square-table-gaming2 ай бұрын
He could not. She is influenced directly by an outer god

Malenia is directly connected to the goddess of rot. Miquella would need to be more powerful than an outer god to remove the rot from her entirely

I found the DLC ending pretty disappointing tbh. If viewed on its own it’s better but as a dlc for the game that came before it pulls a lot of stuff out of nowhere. I felt like Radahn story was ended in the base game fine. Miquellas sudden obsession with him feels jarring when nothing in the game linked them prior. Why Mohg was needed at all is never explained and Promised Consort Radahn looks nothing like Mohg. It felt like it rewrote a lot of character rather than delving into the demigods we hadn’t seen. And in the base game you seek to become Elden lord, why do you randomly choose to oppose Miquella, who is the only demigod who voices compassion and HASNT actively killed thousands 😂 I would’ve been down for an Age of Compassion ending
@square-table-gaming2 ай бұрын
Mostly because Miquella abandoned his humanity for his ideals which is exactly what Marika did. He's perpetuating the cycle whether he wants to or not. You can't have an age of compassion without a heart, the second he tossed Trina aside he ruined his own plans for the world.
@joshuapatrick6822 ай бұрын
Anyone else still bummed we didn’t get to fight Godwyn at the end of the DLC? Since he was the only one in the base game Miquella was actively trying to resurrect?
@pinealdreams30052 ай бұрын
Would have made less than zero sense to fight Godwyn and thats exactly why we don't. The fanbase really struggles to understand that Godwyn is 100% gone forever. His soul was destroyed. His very essence of being. He can't be brought back, he can't be revived. He's the only character in the entire lore that is 100% conclusively dead.

What gives u the right to say that she is missguided? Radahn made a vow with Miquella, it is only right that he should honor like the empyriam wanted, and if that means having her lord and general bacl to wage war, all the better.
