I believe that the Omen blood, and the Omen curse are a manifestation or “lashing out” if you will of the crucible primordial tree. Before the greater will latched onto it funneling the power, and source of life from it like a parasite. Forcing it into order of its own liking, and into submission. But there are those born touched by the crucible, which blends all life together, which is why the omen have so many seemingly random traits from different creatures attached to their forms like weird tails, numerous horns, and bestial fur. The formless mother however taps into the life giving power of the crucible by the blood of those it directly bleeds it’s raw life giving power into, the blood of the omen. Much like again, a parasite.

Honestly, if he attacks as he is when we meet him, he just might pull out a W. Absolutely overwhelm Godrick. Keep Formless Mother on the DL and work with his bro to take down Rykard. Bum rush Ranni. The Omen twins working together, the Nights Cavalry, and a platoon of Bloody Fingers working together are certainly a match for Rhadan but if they take him on first and help in the festival the same way we do as Tarnished alongside the others like we do, it's a wash. Betray Morgott. Revealing Miquella will bring the wrath of Melania down on him but that wouldn't matter if he recruits a Tarnished like Okina to take down the Elden Beast and saves M for last after the Formless Mother becomes the premier cosmic power. Way I see it, the only real reason why he lost is because of players like us

Mohg being infatuated with Miquella is likely due to Miquella’s power to make others love him (from bewitching branch). This implies that this power is still in effect even when he is asleep.

I believe that this is why his sister thinks he's the greatest Empyrean. Rose (scarlet) tinted spectacles, maybe, caused by being in his thrall. I see little evidence that he is the most powerful. @@thevo4100 the description from bewitching branch says he “learned very how to compel such affections”. So he was a pro at using it. We also know he created the rings of light incantation and was researching ways to break the outer gods’ influence. Cut content confirms he was St. Trina so him having sleep related powers is also possible (and rather fitting since he’s always sleeping). One of the cookbooks says he can enter dreams as well and influence people, basically a combination his sleep and brainwashing. An inception like power. The brainwashing ability is enough to make him the most feared demigod IMO. More cut content shows he had the great tune of abundance and his remembrance weapon was a twin blade.

I would like to share my own observation on Mohg that few people don't seem to take much notice of. The single detail that Mohg has a omen horn that has pierced out his right eye and possibly made contact with his brain. I think this detail can explain almost everything. I believe that as a child, Mohg unlike his brother became very rebellious and angry with his mistreatment as a Omen and tried to lash out in anger at his situation. Because of his rebellious behavior I believe Mohg's imprisonment was a exceptionally brutal one judging from the shackle animation and reading the shackle item description it implies that his imprisonment was under maximum confinement and safeguards. When we use Mohg's Shackle we see that he is temporarily bound to the ground, temporarily incapable of standing up or even lifting his arms. We see his shackle is broken in half unlike his brothers so it doesn't work as well as it did in the past. This means that back in the day when he was imprisoned with the magical shackle he probably couldn't move and after many years it's possible his horn slowly grew into his eye socket. This caused him a lot of pain and drove him insane and desperate to get out of his situation. We know Omen blood is exceptionally powerful to the Formless Mother and perhaps he called out in pain for someone to help him escape his situation while his own omen horn drew blood from his eye and maybe even his brain, causing the Formless Mother to hear the call and commune. There are many rituals that require you to draw your own blood in order to commune with eldritch beings, it would be kinda karmic if it turned out that the horn that pierced his eye due to the cruelty of his long and negligent imprisonment conditions was the accidental catalyst that allowed him to make contact with a outer god. Imagine if the omen horn literally pushed his eyeball into his brain. Literally "EYES ON THE INSIDE".

We know Marika was enslaved to the greater will, but we can't definitively say where the historical antipathy for omens and other mutants originated. After all it is said that once such things were considered divine blessings. Maybe it was the greater will that in it's tyranny denied all aberrants the light of it's golden order or maybe it was humanity who feared the curse of their blood. If it was the greater will, then I doubt Marika had a choice about banishing her omen children, and if it was just the terrestrial golden order, then it would be hard to justify keeping their own children while forcing others to mutilate and discard theirs.
@TheSuperRatt

@@todo9633 The nobility often say one thing, and yet do another. Rules for thee, and not for me. It would be completely realistic for Marika to command the cruel imprisonment and disfigurement of other people's children, and not her own. That she DID shun and exile her own children, shows to me that it's either a commandment from the Greater Will, or that she personally originated the practice from her own beliefs.
@brandonwilliams4050
@brandonwilliams4050 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSuperRatt I personally believe the persecution of Omens to be a commandment of the Greater Will. It is noted that objectively “Omen-ism” isn’t a curse-the phenomenon happens when the power of the Primordial Crucible-the source of power before the Greater Will’s Erdtree-manifests in a person. The Greater Will is shown to be incredibly hostile to even tiny *hints* of any powers besides its own existing in the Lands Between. Any non Greater Will power is exterminated or safely subjugated into a subordinate position. Children born with traits showcasing a power that existed prior to its arrival in the Lands Between would enrage the Greater Will to no end, so of course it would order the destruction of the Omen. Frankly considering how so many are killed at birth, I think it is a testament to Marika’s love as a parent that she “only” had her Omen twins imprisoned and hidden from sight rather than outright destroyed. It would have been incredibly easy to do the former especially with the Greater Will exerting such powerful control over her.

The whole quest with Mohg felt really undercooked to be honest. There was so much to work here, like perhaps we could meet Mohg as a non-hostile NPC first after Varre sends us to his palace, giving us the offer to join the dynasty and if we accept, he would send on a quest to eliminate his potential rivals in a similar vein as Ranni's quest. Say if we refuse his offer is when you fight him as a boss and if you join, you unlock another ending altogether with 2 variations; one where you seek to even usurp Mohg himself as the Lord of Blood and one where you become his most esteemed knight with Varre becoming the main villain similar to the quest with Rosaria and Leonard from DS3

I think that having an actual audience at some point would've been cool, but this which you propose would've been too samey. They already used Vyke to be a direct parallel to us, in the same way Oscar was going to be in DS1 before it became cut content, and on top of that we also have Bernhal following a similar disillusionment arc. Having Varré like that would be a lesser Vyke. It does have wasted potential, to that I agree.

It's likely he wanted the formless mother to aide him using its power to further enhance his own to resist his curse, he clearly is growing and if the intro scene is to be believed, he was still a child form when Moghn originally took him from the elik tree, so likely Miqualla was using his power to bewitch Moghn as a means, seeing that he was not seen as someone meaningful, very hidden and unlikely to be thwarted by outsiders, but our tarnish ruins the plans (probably not because she likely spoke with Miqualla while Mogn was inside him in blood form and likely she remains with him in some capacity and will likely make him grow as an adult to supplant the greater will and make her plans come true, which would then be resisted likely from Miqualla as he will clearly be very powerful in his adult form.

I feel like Miquela isn’t as inactive as he seems. One of Miquela’s powers is forcing those around him to love or at the very least have an affection towards him. At first it seemed unintentional or passive, but according to the Bewitching Branch, he “learned very well how to compel such affection”. This implies that Miquela is actually a willful manipulator, and he very well could have manipulated Mohg at some point in their lives. That could explain why Mohg is so fixated on Miquela specifically. Mohg’s still potentially under Miquela’s influence. Perhaps Miquela was aware that his Haligtree wouldn’t have been enough for him to ascend into his adult godhood, and more power may have been necessary for his evolution. Or maybe he just manipulated Mohg in the past, but the effect it had on Mohg lasted longer than he had anticipated. Miquela’s power of manipulation can’t just be some random fact, it seems like it very well could explain why Mohg chose Miquela specifically.

The item descriptions in this game are quite fascinating when they start to push opinions and impressions, revealing some oddly nebulous "public" (ie the view from the perspective of the "average person" in The Lands Between) bias. Even more fascinating is when they gloss over or outright ignore relevant concrete details. Calling Mohg a raving lunatic is one example, but another, much more subtle example is the Vulgar Militia. They are derided and scorned and are even rumored to be cannibals (according to the Vulgar Militia Saw description) ... but some of their gear points out that they are actually the dedicated guardians of old battlefields. It's also never mentioned anywhere (that I can find) that they are almost definitely servants of Maliketh. They use certain bestial incantations and some of them even use weapons augmented with the rune of death. Not to mention that they guard the Bestial Sanctum.

@ladyabaxa 2 жыл бұрын
Some of the scorn might just be people in the Lands Between trying to dissuade the curious from getting too close to the members of certain factions. If you paint them as dangerous, such as spreading rumors of cannibalism, people are likely to shy away from them. When said faction is heretical and a threat to you this can stifle the faction's efforts to recruit. When that faction is hiding something those in power need to keep secret and safe (such as the Rune of Death) this weeds out all but the stupidest or most determined. And I suppose the function the Vulgar Militia played in society might have changed over time. Happens in the real world. Circumstances change and well... adapt or perish. Over time tales of what they did before they reorganized get mixed up with memories of newer actions and you end up with confusing, contradicting stories.

Re: the albinaurics in the Moghwyn area, my theory is that because the portal to that area is in the concentrated snowfields, just like the entrance to the haligtree is, some Albinaurics arrive in the area seeking the Haligtree and use that portal thinking it goes there. This could easily happen even to the player themselves as the haligtree entrance is hidden via a puzzle and guarded by the powerful 1st gen albinaurics. Once the Albinaurics use that portal they're stuck and either convinced or forced to eventually become the red omen Albinaurics. That would explain why the normal Albinaurics look so defeated in the entrance area; there's literally no escape from that place (AFAIK) except teleporting through grace. So they sought the Haligtree but are now doomed to serve Mogh.

The Omen Curse itself is a very interesting aspect of the lore and it makes the Dung Eater an even more interesting character. At first he might look like a "chaotic evil" character for no apparent reason but the more you know about him the more he starts becoming kind of a personification of "vengeance" or hatred towards prejudiced people to the point of cursing every single living being that comes in future generations. It makes me wonder what kind of person he was before all this in times of peace. I'm not a lore expert and I don't know if it's said anywhere so I just let my imagination wander. Maybe he was a father of a child who was born with the Omen Curse and was killed or something like that and that's why he went on this crusade to burn the world and curse everybody. Which is actually pretty interesting giving the fact that he's actually creating a world where the concept of death is reintroduced and everybody is equal. Just a fascinating character overall.

It's still not the proper solution to abuse and bigotry. A curse will always be a curse, no matter if it becomes universal. Even if it became that all humans experienced, say, CANCER, at the age of 40, it WOULD become normal eventually. But we would always revile it, and seek to undo it. Omens suffer nightmares inflicted by malicious spirits. Omens are BORN covered in horns, which cannot be good for the mother, which is something people always forget to mention. In the end? It's still a curse not because dogma says it is, but because of its effects on people's quality of life.

I'm convinced that Mohg is planning on having a kid with Miquella somehow and that child will be named Moghwyn. We've already seen that the gods don't really have to reproduce in a conventional way given the whole Marika and Radogan thing. Mohg's references to his Dynasty sound like he is trying to start a family, a new lineage. If Miquella emerges from his cocoon, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see him take a feminine or androgynous form. Especially since he was cursed to have the body of an infant, giving a sense of unfinished malleability to him. Following the themes of alchemy in the game, gold is also a fairly malleable, soft metal when it is pure (unalloyed). Mohg mixing his blood with Miquella in the cocoon could be a way of creating a new alloy by tainting Miquella's purity.

I do love the lack of a "moral" good in Elden Ring. In Dark Souls, while the dark was often presented as evil or villianous, it only took a little bit of digging to realise that it was just misunderstood, and the evil it generated wasn't from it's own nature but from the enshacklement of the gods. In this game though, there isn't really a sole source of good. Shabriri and the Frenzied Flame do oppose the two fingers, but they are inherintly coniving and manipulative. Mohg and his dynasty, while embracing their wrongly hated blood, do follow the will of a greater one who could be manipulating them just as the being who sent the Elden Beast is manipulating the Lands Between. It's really a matter of perspective, which I think adds a really nice flavor of personal interpretation to the lore of this game. Although I must say Radahn is definitely the best character in the game. Morally, coolest, best fight, etc. Generally raw as fuck

I think the reason accursed blood is the most useful medium for the formless mother is because it is separated from grace. The lands between are under the control and influence of the Greater Will, so every creature has some degree of grace running through them. So when Mohg was cast out, he was literally shunned and separated from the Greater Will's control, and his blood was no longer graced. So the Formless Mother, as an outer god in contest with the Greater Will, was then able to give her "grace" to Mohg.

I’m very fascinated by mohg’s lore in general, but I just want to take a moment to appreciate his voice acting as well. even though he only has a few lines, the way they’re delivered tells so much. you can hear the tenderness in his voice under his villainous facade - even though miquella is practically dead, mohg takes care not to wake him up by speaking softly, and he turns away before speaking louder. even when he “yells”, you can tell his voice physically is not used to shouting. it’s gravelly and messy and it gives you the impression he’s been whispering this entire time - either to keep himself secret or to not wake miquella (probably a combination of both). mohg isn’t some barbaric lord - he’s soft-spoken and cunning, and is honestly slowly growing the most influence out of any of the demigods. and this is from less than ten lines. incredible va job

Another point to keep in mind is that it says that Malenia/Milicent's gold needle is "one of" the ones that Miquella crafted. I'd wager a guess that he made one for himself too, and that is why Mohg's plan to corrupt him with the formless mother's influence failed, at least in part. Also Mohg's obsession with becoming Miquella's consort, may have been a later development due to Miquella's allure affecting him.

I find it very interesting that the influence of the Outer Gods tends to be most powerful underground. As you mentioned in the video, Mohg communed with the Formless Mother deep underground. The doomed Nomadic Merchant clan summoned the Outer God of the Flame of Frenzy when they were buried alive, deep underground. And the Lake of Rot we also find deep underground as well, which as we now know, the Scarlet Rot is the influence of an Outer God. And we find the greatest quantity of that Rot deep underground below Nokstella. It makes me wonder what lies below the Lands Between. While the influence of the Stars seem to be held at bay by Radahn, beneath the Lands Between seems to be where the Outer Gods have the greatest influence.

I believe the fire god from which it comes is the only one to engage in open conflict with the Greater Will as well, during the war with the giants. Perhaps this symbolism, along with the fact that the aforementioned flame is the only thing that can burn the Erdtree, implies that these two beings are more or less equals while others scheme underground.

I think it's kind of great that Gideon is "All Knowing" and he works tirelessly to "accumulate knowledge" but his major flaw is ignorance. He's ignorant towards his adopted daughter, he's ignorant towards you. He's ignorant to the world outside, perhaps it's because he doesn't really LEAVE the roundtable, but stays there reading the books that are present. He's quick to dismiss Mohg as a raving lunatic simply because he *doesn't know*. but also refuses to follow up on Mohg himself. The only way to change his mind is to actually present him with new knowledge beyond his books; he won't seek it out himself. Could this also mean that people can feed him lies and he accepts it as truth as long as it doesn't contradict with his prior knowledge? What I'd really like to know is what exactly did he figure out to make him confront us at the end?

All-Hearing doesn’t necessarily mean that he can understand everything he hears; like you say, he often is too ignorant to, despite often having the info around him. It’s why he can get tricked so easily by Albus hiding in a pot. He hears, but he doesn’t listen. He doesn’t actually know.

Lots to digest in this video but one thing that stood out to me was Miquella himself. If he was so resistant to outer gods influence, maybe that's why he hasn't awoken yet despite all of Mohg's effort. Perhaps he was resisting the Mohg and the Formless Mother's influence as he sleeps until he forms until the god of his own design. Obviously he'll be corrupted due to the blood ritual, and in his fury, he lashes out at us and starts the boss fight. Hopefully the DLC answers questions about Miquella because he seems to be in everything. Though we'll probably get more questions than answers considering it is FromSoft lol.

22:53 Gonna have to contradict that detail. I don't think it's Margott making the Mohg illusion in the depths. Because that illusion still persists past Margott's defeat in the capital. Meanwhile Margit in Stormveil does not persist after his defeat (and this is assuming you skipped stormveil and got radahn and rennala's runes to make it to altus without godrick's rune). I think the Frenzied Flame is one thing they do still have a silent agreement to work together on suppressing. Both placing a barrier in a sense.

The sadness factor is definitely there when it comes to Mohg. I always thought about how Mohg met the formless mother and how in the description of his trident it says she requires wounds. He was alone in his prison underground when he met her. What if Mohgwyn in his desperation tried to commit suicide as he slit his wrist to finally end his misery but instead his blood bursted into flames and he made his first communion with the formless mother. Miquella with all his kindness tried to always be a comfort to anybody including Mohg, so later he in his obsessive insanity pledges himself to Miquella as his knight to the point of kidnaping him. There was also a speculation that the formless mother isn't really an outer god but it's actually a figment of Mohg's imagination, a metaphore for self harm thats why Miquella can never become a vessel for the fomless mother because she isn't actually real. All the powers Mohg gained like his wings and blood magic all come from his omen curse and the delusions he succumbed to...

These twins are two sides of the same coin, both yearning desperately for love but finding opposite ways, morgott finding it in the family that shunned him while mohg found it in the formless mother, the one who I believe gave him his curse, as that whole area is full of the omen being, with dung eater and mohg, and the fell omen rune you can get from dung eater that I believe the formless mother is the god of the omen and their creators Edit: and yes they found it, both of them, morgott with the erdtree giving grace and mohg with the formless mother, but the irony is not lost

Mohg and Rykard should team up in the DLC. It could legit be a whole gothic blood themed nightmare. Rykard regrows and looks for an Ally to help him destroy the current Elden Lord (you). Mohg allows Rykard to eat him and the serpent morphs and grows horns. Also, when Rykard speaks you hear his voice and Mohg’s. Imagine fighting The Serpent and it crawls into The Formless Mother and climbs out somewhere else, accursed blood everywhere, holding a new trident.

There's something interesting going on with the 2 fights with Mohg. Both Mogh and Morgott fight us twice (Morgot fights us 3 times if you count the random encounter). In Morgott's case we first fight him as an illusion, after you finish the first encounter it's revealed that you've been fighting an illusion and you can hear Morgott's warning as the illusions disappeares. You can also skip his first encounter without cheesing the game, it's an option within the game itself, and if you do and kill him directly at the Erdtree, the first encounter is simply canceled, because, well he's dead. That doesn't happen with Mohg. Regardless of the order in which you play out the 2 encounters (I've tested it), you can still play out both encounters. I was expecting at least for the underground encounter to get canceled after you fight Mohg in Miquella's arena, in a similar fashion as Morgott. It could be that both bosses are just avatars of Mohg. The one underground manifests himself out of thin air, the one in the arena appears from Miquella's pool of blood. Yes you could say he's somehow teleporting in both cases, but that doesn't explain why he's still alive in one area after you've killed him in the other. Either the devs missed this detail, or it's intended and he is not dead even after you finish the game. DLC?

Something I haven't seen anyone talk about is that the cocoon sits atop a pelvis, which has the imagery of a womb. Maybe that's really obvious and there's answers that the game explicitly gives (that I havent come across) but Im just interested in knowing more about that.

I immediately thought of Mohg maybe using the pelvis as a means to represent the Formless Mother. Miquella is effectively being reborn as a God in adult form when he cocooned himself in the Haligtree so using a pelvis as the altar he rests on awaiting rebirth seemed appropriate. I thought perhaps the pelvis was part of the haligtree given the facial components of the tree we see during Malenia’s fight but I think it being Pelvis shaped to represent the formless mother makes more sense imo. Would love more details on all of it though, it’s beyond fascinating.

Really nice video! I didn't even notice the omen horns on the sanguine noble and blood albinaurics, that's a very clever detail. Subscribed to see more from you. I do think the end of the video discounts the intensity of the one-sided personal relationship between Mohg and Miquella; I think it's fair to speculate that Miquella's natural allure may be corrupting Mohg just as much as Mohg's blood rituals are corrupting Miquella, if not more. It's notable that Mohg seems to have ceased all activity toward building his dynasty in favor of the seemingly divine pleasure of just sleeping beside Miquella. Varre's storyline indicates both that there was a time in the past that Mohg was much more actively involved with his people and that in the present he has forsaken whatever promises he made to them in the past (Varre's death dialogue). Anyway great stuff!

I think it's really interesting how a theme throughout Mohg and how he is perceived progresses. He has been shunned, disregarded, and ridiculed hi entire life, because of how he was born. It makes sense to me how he grew to love his accursed blood. While Morgott is ashamed, likely due to the same ridicule Mohg got, instead he was deluded into thinking that what he was born into was as terrible as they say, and went to great lengths to seal away that part of himself, and compensate with his devotion to the golden order. For Mohg, I think the curse for him was the only thing that he could truely call his own. And of course, when the formless mother granted him audience, his accursed blood was in turn validated, and his yearning for a new dynasty, and perhaps eventually overthrowing the golden order, spawned not only of the ambitions of the formeless mother, but through Mohg's confinement throughout his life. It's no surprise he would want to rule his own great dynasty, and prove to the greater will and everyone else above who he was; the Lord of Blood. In the end, the accursed blood that he was shunned for ended up being the great attribute that not only granted him audience with the formless mother, but gave him incredible strength. Mohg and Morgott are the most interesting characters in the game to me, although personally there's a lot more I need to find out about Morgott to get a full picture of his character.

Amazing lore video, it actually changed my own attitude towards Mohg, as I mistreated him as just a lunatic with absolutely insane ideas which were not really based on reality. One thing that made me wonder - why there are no other Omens by Mohg's side ? It actually makes sense for any omen to side with Mohg, who embraced his accursed blood, and tried to build a new world without Golden Order's influence , however there are no Omens in Moghwyn masoleum , and only omens that can be kind of in service of Mohg are there who present in the Catacombs , where they serve as guardians , because I really doubt that they were sent here back in a day by Leyndell nobility, as the Shuning Grounds are already a thing , and there is no reason to send them even deeper. Tho maybe I'm delusional there, and it's either EVERY omen in the Shuning Ground are followers of Mohg and that's why they are equiped with weapons in his servise ( yeah, it was once mentioned that omens were somitimes used as a cannonfodder iirc , but still, there is no reason to keep them equiped with weapons when thay are not needed) , or none among the Omens follow their demigod.
