I finally stopped making excuses and had a first try at a lore video.
Probably a more healthy way to channel my hype for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC than reading reddit.
I hope you enjoy it!

I'm almost certain that the celebrants are a reference to Lupercalia "The Lupercalia had its own priesthood, the Luperci ("brothers of the wolf"), whose institution and rites were attributed either to the Arcadian culture-hero Evander, or to Romulus and Remus, erstwhile shepherds who had each established a group of followers. The Luperci were young men (iuvenes), usually between the ages of 20 and 40. They formed two religious collegia (associations) based on ancestry; the Quinctiliani (named after the gens Quinctia) and the Fabiani (named after the gens Fabia). Each college was headed by a magister." "At the Lupercal altar, a male goat (or goats) and a dog were sacrificed by one or another of the Luperci, under the supervision of the Flamen dialis, Jupiter's chief priest.[b] An offering was also made of salted mealcakes, prepared by the Vestal Virgins.[14][failed verification] After the blood sacrifice, two Luperci approached the altar. Their foreheads were anointed with blood from the sacrificial knife, then wiped clean with wool soaked in milk, after which they were EXPECTED TO LAUGH. The sacrificial feast followed, after which the Luperci cut thongs (known as februa) from the flayed skin of the animal,[1] and ran with these, naked or near-naked, along the old Palatine boundary, in an anticlockwise direction around the hill.[11] In Plutarch's description of the Lupercalia, written during the early Roman Empire, ...many of the noble youths and of the magistrates run up and down through the city naked, for sport and laughter striking those they meet with shaggy thongs. And many women of rank also purposely get in their way, and like children at school present their hands to be struck, believing that the pregnant will thus be helped in delivery, and the barren to pregnancy.[15] The Luperci completed their circuit of the Palatine, then returned to the Lupercal cave. " It''s the skinning of the sacrificial goat and the whipping of maidens with the strips of flayed goat skin that really seem similar to me. That and the whole, Brotherhood of the wolf, thing and running into the woods to turn into a wolf that seem similar to more than a few elements of Elden Ring culture. The statue of the maiden with three wolves also reminds me of Romulous and Remus. It also makes me think of the flayed skin in side of the Iron virgins. Lupercalia is one of the oldest Roman Traditions and it's so old that most roman scholars had no idea of it's true origins. Though the sacrificing of a dog is reminiscent of an apparent ancient stone aged ritual of forcing young boys to raise puppies from birth only to later have them sacrifice their dog/wolf and eat it as a part of their coming of age ceremony. Check out Dan Dave's History's "The Ancient Indo-European Midwinter Dog Sacrifice." For details on the 2nd part of my post.

Something I’ve always wondered is what gods the godslayers killed. To my knowledge Marika is the only one mentioned, so there must have been more gods at some point, and it’s a bit strange that Marika was the last one left before they were defeated.

I found Zayf’s channel through the video on Stormveil Castle and it’s disease, and I was surprised by it’s quality so I decided to binge all of his videos because I’m crazy and that’s what I do with the channels I like. And I’ve come to the conclusion that if this guy doesn’t become as popular as Zullie then there’s something wrong with this community that I hold so dear.

A very different theory than the ones I have heard before, but a quite interesting one nonetheless - also, absolutely class for a first narrative lore video. Pacing, intonation, audio quality and word choice are quite on point. Steady on, Sir!

bonny village in the dlc makes me feel like there's some sort of connection to it and the windmill villages. the crown of many coloured flowers might be symbolic of the hornsent's crowns. they have similarly adorned cleavers, there is a flame incantation found nearby, and that they skin people in the festival. the stakes are a sign of the golden order or marika i think? makes me think the festival is either mocking the hornsent after their defeat by marika, or mocking marika and what happened at bonny village?
