It’s interesting how similar Ranni is to Loki. Godwyn is described exactly like Baldr in Norse mythology. Both of their deaths heralded the beginning of the end for those in power. Ranni’s motivation, like Loki’s, doesn’t seem to be to end the world, just the current order and age. They both go about it in treacherous ways, including killing the most loved god/demigod. I wonder if Ranni had any particular resentment for Godwyn, or if she merely saw him as the easiest victim to cause the greatest disruption.

Your theory on Radahn being an animal lover is actually correct, sort of. An early version of the long tailed cat talisman had the description mention that Radahn had a pet cat that he adopted as a kitten that he loved very much. So yeah, it's basically cannon. i think one important detail would be that Ranni's whole story can be interpreted as seeing god cause noah's flood due to his dissatisfaction with humanity and coming to the conclusion of "what if i could reduce god's direct influence on the world?". she saw killing her brother as a necessary evil in order to instigate her plan as she couldn't act on her own due to having a two-finger assigned to her and plan was generally postponed due to Rahdan going insane. her goal (based on the official dialogue) was simple to remove the order's physical presence from the world thus rendering it more a concept that governs the world rather than a physical thing tied to everything

Actually; she just like the nox, and her mother Rennala (even says after you defeat her), all wanted to return the worship of the 'night' or moon. Golden order wanted to remove it completely but carians were too strong (theory* so marika became a new person, radagon to seduce rennala and they could coexist,) regardless what actually happened, the golden order and the moon worshipers (astrology maybe) joined together after the marriage between the two, as the crecentmoon crossbow and turtle pooe said. you can see these moon alters everywhere that give you starlight shards showing how far reaching this was before. So the numen made a blade to kill fingers to bring back the moon to it's former glory. In retaliation they were sent underground for heresy for making that blade. They didn't give up as they made mimic tears in an attempt to make a lord to do the dead for them, thats why in norkstella you see naked tarnished mimics with weapons fighting you, failed attempts. the nox are the black knife assasins who all share the same motive as ranni. Its all for the moon.

​@@petercottantail7850 well no it's not because if it was she would not mend the order and preside over it as her ending entails. she posits a hatred for her two-finger and the order in some regards and comes to the conclusion that it should not be here, their isn't really any mention of the moon at all in her questline with the ending being more in relation to stars #edit# id also say that rather than focusing on the moon itself, the dark moon and occult provided greater perspective for Ranni which may have catalyzed her whole plot. you could infere a kinda theme between Ranni and her mother from their two moons in that Rennala was a grand figure central to our view of the sky, stars, and essentially glintstone. Radagon became her light and when he left rather than a dark moon she faded into obscurity with the stars... but Ranni's moon was not a beacon and instead more of a gateway. the dark moon likely lead Rannie down a road that eventually lead to her current state attempting to subvert the gods in order to make a proper version of the order much like Goldmask but using a different and rather amoral method

About why Marika killed the giants: She sent Godfrey to kill them all because the giant fire pot posed a threat to the Erdtree and since the fire in there is not able to be put out, she left one giant alive to "tend" to the flame, essentially damning him to try to put out a untamable flame.

My guy, I respect your boundless courage for picking a fight with Malenia's simp army. Anyway some lore considerations for you. Marika picked a fight with the giants because their fire is the only thing that can burn the erdtree. The stormlord isn't placidusax. That goofball's been sleeping since before Marika was a thing. As for who it is, one possible candidate is the stormhawk king, the chaddest of Hawks that no one outside of Nepheli Loux can control. Why can Nepheli control him? Because she's the descendant of Hoarah Loux aka Godfrey, and as the descendant of the Chad who bested him, the stormhawk king became a stormhawk simp for her. Marika apparently still has plans for Godfrey after turning him tarnished, apparently she wants him to get even stronger so he can kill the Elden beast. Which is why she forced him to leave and go fight more wars. Evidence being, in one of the graces, Melina tells us that once the tarnished are killed, Marika will give grace back to them. The rune of death and destined death is actually the same thing, Enia the boomer tells that to us. The tarnished not dying to the rune is probably because Marika is watching over us, it's why we can't die in the game. And as Maliketh's boss, she probably had some executive control over the rune too. I haven't seen this brought up anywhere but when you die in the lands between you eventually come back to life because your "soul" travels to the erdtree to be restored a process that normally takes many many years but as the player this is basically instant. Is it possible that Marika helps the players "soul" basically get a fast pass to the erdtree and back to a site of grace?

I think Ranni is really interesting because her goals are almost certainly in the right, but her methods are questionable. First off, the golden order pretty clearly removes free will from the lands between. It also doesn’t really seem to care about causing great suffering if it is necessary to maintain its control. This makes Ranni’s goals of destroying the order at any cost pretty reasonable. Despite this, there’s a lot to criticize. First, she chose to kill Godwyn as her rune of death substitute, which caused chaos since he was a ruling figure across the lands between. Maybe she needed to kill a demigod for the ritual to work, but it may also have just been hatred for the golden order and she chose to kill a main figure to weaken it (or both). Unfortunately that had massive shockwaves, to be fair Marika shattering the elden ring was probably not planned for but still mostly Ranni’s fault. Honestly even with all that I’d still say it’s mostly moral, but there’s one major problem. It didn’t really work. All that was for one step of the plan and Ranni got knocked straight back to square one in a weaker body. I think she originally planned to kill Godwyn and somehow usurp Marika in the chaos caused by a scramble for power. The problem was that the elden ring was shattered so Ranni didn’t have a way to directly achieve godhood anymore. Maybe her plan could have worked and instantly brought about the age of stars but the actual results were catastrophic. Any sense of order was destroyed and the destruction of the elden ring caused endless war. Worst of all, Ranni didn’t even have an easy way to make her plan work anymore. She just becomes another faction hoping to gain power and she’s not even the strongest one. Ranni needs you to free her from her injured form and even then she can’t actually succeed on her own. She need the player to repair the elden ring to bring about the age of stars. This could be wrong, maybe she did have a master plan and didn’t need much outside help. I mean the crew she built does seem quite strong and Ranni has some crazy powers up her sleeve, but her success is certainly not guaranteed. This creates a problem since Ranni is running on an “ends justify the means” philosophy but the ends are not guaranteed. That just leaves a path of destruction in her wake and a hope for a better future. Understandable certainly, but also probably pretty unethical.

Exactly. It's up to the players to decide what they believe is the "lesser evil", because everyone is evil. The golden order removes free will as to ensure no pain or suffering from any potential rebellion or war. Ranni wanted to bring back free will, but what she accomplished was basically killing an entire civilization. There is no happy ending. In one you return order to the world basically enslaving everyone again, in the other you basically commit to the genocide of the kingdom in hope of future free of any influences that is probably never going to happen as everything is in ruin and people are just trying to survive

Miquella isn't dead, just sleeping. Mohg was using his blood (which is why miquella bleeds him out) to try to make miquella a God, but he wasn't reacting to it. Although, it is said that miquella can mind control, even in his cocoon, so it is possible that the whole mohg thing is miquella's idea
