I love how this is such a generational thing. With every new From Soft game, there come new people, and with them there's bound to be a few special cookies that will have a take so bad it's actually funny. Not like "I'm calling it funny to insult you" but genuinely funny. One guy even got a chuckle outta me when he said he refuses to use Ash Summons, ranged of any kind, pure melee for him, and no consumables at all, but complains about ER being impossible and unnecessarily hard. I disagree with this, if you do a pure melee build and not use ash summons you should be able to beat the game, Dark Souls I and II and III are all beatable with a pure melee build with zero ranged and it is not a challenge run. A challenge run is like Soul Level 1 or a Wooden Ladle run.

The thing about it though is that it seems that melee starts doing less damage later on in the game. I'm 2 handing a Heavy Guts greatsword with max strength and I'm not really chunking bosses as much as I feel I would be in other Dark Souls games. It kinda feels like I'm missing something to further up my damage

@@osets2117 Exactly. I sucked at Elden Ring when I first got it, but I kept at it. Running dungeons, getting the Godrick Knight armor for some decent defense, and then I beat Godrick himself. Did some exploring, ended up in Caelid, got the Berserk greatsword, and so on. Now, I run a build with that greatsword, 97/99 strength, 60 vigor, etc. and I absolutely demolish the bosses. I plan to do my 3rd and final playthrough for the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, then I'll have all achievements on PS4. I plan to buy the DLCs 100%, too

My biggest problem, other than him not playing the game, is this assessment that open world games aren't crafted levels. They are. You don't just run a number generator and get a map, you need to design the terrain, hills, valleys, lakes, all of it.

Yes! There is so much work put into the world. They have to get it just right so that the world neither has to much stuff nor to little. There is a rule in game design that a player on his way from point A to point B should find something interesting/distracting every 30-40secs on average. Elden Ring actually follows this just like for example the witcher does. I can't even imagine how much work it is to create an open world this big following this rule while also making sense and everything looking good.

I don't think he realises "I haven't played it" isn't some indication that this game is that bad that noone should play it but rather his own ignorance in reviewing it. Also I will have you know that Soldier of Godrick is the hardest boss in Elden Ring, no cap. I am a level 130 and it took me 10 days of grinding to finally beat him with a bleed build and even then it was a double KO.

Elden Ring is the first title in the series that broke the “Git Gud” complaints. In previous games it was definitely more of a thing, and you could sometimes get stuck if you didn’t “git gud”. But in this game you have so much more opportunity to empower yourself without getting stuck or grinding. Everything you do is rewarding and there is SO MUCH to do.

The Haligtree and Consecrated Snowfield has some of the hardest enemies in my opinion. Even without Malenia, you still have the albinauric archers and invisible assassins in the liturgical village, the runebears and frenzied trolls, the putrid tree avatars and spirits, and lots of scarlet rot.

I suck at Elden ring. I know this from watching other people play. That's said, I've been playing for 250 hours plus and it may be one of my favorites of all time. I'm terrible at maneuvering through the menu, I try to punch enemies with my dragon seal cuz I'm forgetting to switch to my melee weapon, I die scrolling through my down pad items, I'm terrible at dodging, I spam L1 and forget about stamina. After all that, I've explored like crazy and worked out my build to where I can completely annihilate the mobs. I use my spirit summons, I use Dragon rot breath, I cheese from Tree Tops. I never got good, but I'm still beating bosses and I'm still having a hell of a good time. All people need is a little patience and some curiousity to explore to enjoy this game. I'm still in my first playthrough. I'm afraid to miss anything so I'm not advancing the story until I completely scour an area and find everything I can possibly find. I don't want to beat the game cuz I don't want it to be over. I may just be playing this game for the rest of my life. There's my review.

Just got to the part where he said it's an open world where you don't get to do what you want to do. Like, bruh. Yes there is an "optimal" order to do things in, but you can literally skip the first main boss (godrick) and go to rhykard or something. If you do manage to overcome these things early (which you absolutely can with enough skill) then you are heavily rewarded. A lot of runes, insane weapons/armor, talismans, upgrade materials, etc. Like, for those who got transported to the cleric beast, got DESTROYED by the gargoyle outside, then grinded that fight into mastery and got rewarded early, man did it pay off. Plus that experience carries over to when you fight the 2 gargoyles at once and really helps out

honestly the fact that elden ring was too hard and very hard to understand at first was my main attraction to the game reminded me of zelda 64 even when i was struggling at the start very enjoyable game i think if from soft did some mini game shit in elden ring and make more like zelda 64 with like fishing and maybe some other stuff in the game it would be a mega master piece not saying elden ring isnt a master piece i been playing the shit out of it just theres so much potential with where they could go with an elden ring 2 if they put some ideas from zelda 64 in it but obviously their own twists on those elements of puzzles or mini games

6:55 - Unless you're cheating/glitching, you only need to defeat 11 bosses. Margit, Godrick, Mohgwyn, Godfrey, Margot, Fire Giant, Maliketh, Gideon, Godfrey, Radagon, Elden Beast. Fighting Mohgwyn 3rd would be incredibly difficult, but if you only want to complain about the size and variety of this game, this is the way to go.

Elden Ring isn't my cup of tea personally, but it's loved by the fanbase it was made for (fans of the dark souls series) therefore I think it's a good game. Even if I personally don't like something I understand that everyone has different preferences and that not everything will be made to suit my personal tastes, and that's a good thing. You can't please everyone so you should focus on pleasing your audience first and foremost. How disappointing would it be if every company tried to appeal to multiple demographics and ignored their niche. (The main aspect why someone would buy their game?) If someone bought a sports game they bought it for the sport. I doubt they would be happy if they found that most of the gameplay was just your player's everyday life because people like the sims. It's similar with genres. Some people prefer tactical rpgs over shooters. Does that mean you should turn cod into a tactical rpg? No, and you shouldn't do the reverse either. The Souls fanbase likes the difficult and challenging combat, the fact that you have to dig for the lore/story, and the realism of not being able to pause the game. I may not agree with the last one, but there are fans who would defend it. Who am I to say that the company should cater to my whims? No one, and they shouldn't because they've already succeeded in pleasing their targeted demographic. Sorry for the long comment. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

So, first I will say I "SUCK" at this game. This is my first FromSoft game. I purposely avoided all of the other Souls based games because of how notorious they are at being difficult. I originally bought this game through Steam (PC) on March 7th after watching a KZbin video which peaked my interest; ironically I think it was a livestream. I started with an Astrologer class and played (on keyboard/mouse) for nearly 2 hours. I got frustrated while trying to clear out the first main enemy camp and promptly requested a refund just within the 2 hours that Steam allows for returns. Then 5 days later after watching more KZbin videos, I discovered that the Astrologer is considered one of the more difficult classes to start the game with. I decided to give the game another chance and possibly try a different character class. I re-purchased it on March 12th, originally thinking I'd just start a new character. After re-installing the game, I saw that my Astrologer character was still available, so I decided to continue with it instead. The other thing I did; before I said I had been using a keyboard/mouse, is I dug out my mostly unused XBOX ONE Elite controller and plugged it in. After a short period of adjustment to the controls, I got what I needed from that first encampment and moved on. I even fell for that chest trap in the dragon lake area around level 20 and got sent to that nasty cave in Caelid; someone at FromSoft has a really cruel sense of humor, just sayin. After dying repeatedly; something I absolutely HATE about these kinds of games and why I normally avoid them, I simply consulted Google/KZbin and found the quickest route to escape and returned to the "starter" areas. Anyway, a few weeks later, I've got my Astrologer level in the 90's along with 2 other characters a Samurai and a Confessor both in the 60's I think. Each character I had logged 20 - 30 hours each. Unfortunately, after getting frustrated again, I "accidentally" deleted all 3 characters and "accidentally" uninstalled the game 😜. Next thing I know, I'm re-installing the game the very next day. It was a Friday and I didn't exactly have any dates lined up (Enter maidenless jokes/memes here). Now I have 4 different characters: Level 97 Bandit and Prophet; and level 85 Vagabond and Prisoner and I have completed all of Limgrave and most of Liurnia on each character. I have also beaten Margitt, Godrick, Rennalla, Lorretta and Radahn along with most of the side/optional bosses for Limgrave/Liurnia and currently going through Nokron and have clocked between 30-40 hours on each. Steam shows my playtime at 383 hours. As I said, I "SUCK" at this game and I'm absolutely loving it! LOL

I have never played a Souls game before a week ago, I have a tendency to Rage Quit. I am now playing Code Vein & loving it & yes I have Rage Quit a couple of times, but immediately gone straight back into the game. I'm also looking forward to Elden Ring after completion of CV. The satisfaction from beating a boss is awesome. This 'I haven't played the game, but know it's crap' imbecile is a disgrace to gamers. Gotta love the mentality of Elden Ring haters. It does always boil down to "You sucked at the game and are now crying about it". The "Git Gud" meme is to shit on people like this person. If you're actually struggling but want to get tips and tricks, disregarding the idiot elitists, there's plenty of people who will have fun with you. There's a whole co-op summoning system, use it. Having a hard time with a boss? Summon a golden sign and get help. There's literally a man who will solo the hardest boss in the game for you, just because he loved fighting that boss. Elden Ring is a game where the difficulty is yours to tackle and get better. Yes, there are some enemies I hate, but I avoid them when I can.

For most enemies that are you're size , I"d suggest circling around them while holding up your shield and then backstabbing. Don't take it as a hack and slash and keep hitting their shields.

As a souls fan, the only complaints I'm seeing is that the builds are highly imbalanced, the bosses are gank city and the DOGS. The build imbalance is thanks to the bosses because you're fighting like 2 bosses at the same time. Sure it's not for every boss but it makes it difficult to fight them since the summons are supposed to be your way distracting them. I think thanks to this, From Soft centered their boss design on this for ER. This wouldn't be bad if it didn't come at the cost of melee and just about every other builds' viability. Either way, fantastic game and deserves the praise. Also dogs will forever suck.

I have one arm and I currently have 150+ hours in Elden Ring. I haven't beaten the game yet, but mostly because there's so much stuff for me to explore that I want to fully experience everything. I love how cryptic this game is. I feel like this is one of the reasons why it got super popular. You're gonna need help for something like how to fight that cool boss you've died to, and so you're gonna ask your friends, ask others who've beaten the boss, watch videos and strategy guides, etc. It also means you gotta use that pink squishy thing in your head to figure out what to do and what not to do. Hey, this big golden guy on a horse keeps killing me. Maybe I should level up a bit to fight him more easily. Or I can just not fight him at all until my next playthrough! This game is one of the greatest that I have ever played because of the two reasons I listed.
