One of my favorite things about From Software releases is the community search for secrets and discoveries. Elden Ring is the prime example of a game with lots of hidden secrets and mechanics and today we're breaking down 8 very cool ones. Elden Ring is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game's setting.

I feel like the whole Grace situation with Godfrey and Morgott isn't that complicated. If Marika can still use Grace to guide people, then I think the Elden Beast or the Greater Will can do the same, and they're looking for a champion to prolong the life of the Golden Order. Marika isn't special, she's just the one who made a deal with the Greater Will. I don't think she could give and take Grace otherwise. We get guided towards the tree to become Elden Lord, whereas Godfrey gets guided towards us, the greatest obstacle between him and his second reign as Elden Lord. Morgott was allowed to use Grace in the interim by the Elden Beast because there simply wasn't anyone else left to protect the Golden Order. The Omen Curse doesn't prevent it, the Elden Beast/the Greater Will does.

I agree with you. I'd also like to add that it's very much the Greater will that guides the tarnished. After the shattering happened the intro tells us "a war which let to the abandonment by the greater will" . So in a last ditch effort to mend the ring it called us Tarnished After the demigods, successors of Marika failed It. Idk how ziostorm doesn't seem to know this is basic lore stuff.

Yeah, Godfrey and Morgott line up perfectly in this respect - they're both supposed to prevent the player character from reaching the Erdtree and threatening the Elden Beast.
@IsaiahX7-13

The game literally tells us that the Greater Will abandoned the realm, and that it is Marika who created the Tarnished in the first place and gives them back their grace at the start of the game to guide them on their path to slay the Elden Beast. Morgott is also literally called a graceless Omen, who was not loved by the Erdtree even though he chose to protect it. So, if he does get given grace by the end of the game which seems to be the case, that grace could only come from his mother Marika. Especially, since it guides his father Godfrey to fight the player, which would make sense if Marika preferred for her former husband to complete her mission instead of a random Tarnished.

One of my favorite aspects of the Godfrey fight is that we actually meet him, one of the most legendary figures in the lore, as equals. And the grace leading him to us, just as it led us to him, exemplifies this. Morgott was granted grace towards the end of the Shattering wasn't he? He's the only demigod and one of very few who still have gold in their eyes.

Furthermore I'd say the Elden Beast also displays characteristics of a myriad creatures almost like it's a tree of life representing evolution. It starts with tree roots on its tail, then following that there's fins, following that a primate-like pair of crouching legs, following that wings and lastly human-like hands.

@ryanleatigaga7596

One discovery that I might have found is that the underground riverbeds (the Ainsel and Siofra rivers) might be inspired by the Tomb of The First Emperor in China. There are stars underground to mimic the night, much like how the tomb had various gemstones inside the tomb to mimic the condtellations and the night sky in general. The claymen could represent the terracotta warriors. And the existence of the Mimic Tears could represent the rivers of mercury that were said to permeate the tomb to mimic rivers. They're completely different cultures, but I found it fascinating.
@youtubevoice1050
@youtubevoice1050 Жыл бұрын
Interesting parallels! Although the two rivers could also refer to the Mesopotamian Eufrat and Tigris where civilization seems to have it's beginning. The old temples of Uhl (?) have these statues with tablets that exist in real life and are none other than a simplified map of the known world (basically Mesopotamia). The eternal cities are a later in-game civilization. (see the tarnished archeologist's videos). I suppose the developers have included and merged a lot of historical references.

Something recently struck me while playing again and it may be worth your time to consider a video. That is Patches and his connection with the snakes of the manor. He has a very odd and yet legitimate connection with both Tanith and Rykard. On top of that, he tries to prevent the player from joining the manor but also tries to point the player in the direction of Rykard and once Rykard is dead he seems very pleased about it only to later want to give Tanith a gift which we never find out the conclusion on. If all the worlds of FromSoft share a small connection - Could this realms Patches be showing us why he hates "Priests" so much and that is a reference to Rykard's fall?
@hedgehoge90
@hedgehoge90 Жыл бұрын
Patches as a character hates all the gods. Its all clear that he is in love with Tanith, so he obviously wants Rykard dead and Tanith for his own. He probably prevents you to join the manor as he might think you are a threat. That you want to side with Rykard in order to slay the other gods. As time goes on, Patches (who is very smart), literally sees you rise in the Manor, as you complete misions, sees the value in you and guides you to HIS goal. He leaves the manor as Tanith is still in love with Rykard, thats why he is depressed when you see him again, and before dying he gives you Tanith's gift, giving Patches great deph as we only saw him as an ashole for years, but with Tanith we can see that he can love even though its not reciprocated

Not sure if anyone has said this before but the story of Andromeda has some parallels to Marika and the Elden beast albeit very surface level. Both Marika and Andromeda are sacrificed to a sea monster as divine punishment. I actually only found this out because I thought it would be interesting to look up constellations and the meanings behind their names to see if there was anything that inspired the lore of Elden Ring.

I don't know which crows you know but the one's I know have 4 toes. Ranni's Eye does not have a crow foot, it is the shape of a black knife in the cinematic trailer and just a simple scrolling pattern in game. The similarities are there for sure, but to say that Melina has half a crows foot on her face and Ranni has the other half is just simply wrong. Look at the markings closely before coming up with a theory about them please.

People keep saying Ranni's mentor is Renna for some unknowable reason even though there's absolutely no evidence beyond just adjacency. Everyone was clearly making the connection even before the game came out that Ranni and Melina looked similar. They both have a closed eye, the one unnamed *QUEEN* looks just like someone in the game whose appearance is clearly indicating they're making a connection to someone else's appearance, and she's associated with a group that is known for killing gods. Melina and Millicent are clearly parallels to one another, sharing the same outfit, go on a quest of self-discovery, and have some undeniable kinship with their respective mother/sister/self who are Marika and Malenia. Melina being the gloam-eyed queen makes a whole lot more sense if she's a weird asexual copy of Marika, and it gives an explanation as to why she's even referred to as a queen, or would ever have powers akin to destined death. They also refer to the GEQ as "defeated," and not dead which might explain why she doesn't have a body. I also find it overtly convenient that Melina gives you Torrent, and coincedentally Ranni not only knows Torrent has been given to someone, but also knows that Torrent was in the possession of someone up until then. She also has items that belong to a former lord that Melina would be clearly looking to support.
@IsaiahX7-13
@IsaiahX7-13 Жыл бұрын
Ranni and Melina's similarities are easily explained by the fact that they're literally sisters: that's it. All of this "Melina and Ranni are two halves of the same person" stuff has always been forced and made no sense at all. Ranni's eye symbol is a completely different type of symbol, it definitely does not merge with Melina's. We know both Ranni and Melina's backstories, they are not the same person at all, and Melina is way older than Ranni is.

The stuff with Morgott I think isn't that he can control grace just because he can create holy weapons to attack with. We know that the grace guides people to their purpose. We know gideon, godfrey, fia, dung eater, and gold mask were revived by grace and guided by it but they all had different motives. So what if grace simply guides you to your purpose and the grace shown is guiding godfrey to a true battle to finally fell his unsatiable lust for battle. Gideon's to learn everything he can from the demigods, learning that he himself can't fell a god in knowledge alone, fia to give birth to godwyn's offspring, dung eater to defile and curse the tarnished, and godmask to learn the truth of his faith. We know all 5 are guided by hrace once lost

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not as of yet, but I haven't seen any content creator say it, but I casually just found out the real-life equivalent of the merchant's instruments is called an Erhu (a Chinese stringed instrument).

4:30: Isn't this animation also used by some of enemies in Ailing Village? Maybe they were originally planning Goldmask to become influenced by Frenzied Flame after learning the truth about Marika, and simply forgot to remove animation from phantom after this idea was scrapped? Or maybe they just didn't want players to associate Goldmask with three fingers.

Morgott is the grace given, the omens are born outside of the erdtrees grace but morgott was given it by his devotion to the golden order.

About the alchemy themes in the game If there's something I learned by watching the Castlevania animated series on Netflix, it's that creating a body that is both male and female, inhabited by the souls of both a man and a woman, is kind of a big deal in the alchemy department (unless it's completely made up for the plot of the show but I doubt it) So yeah it explains the whole Radika/Maragon situation

Top 10 lore discoveries: the crucible was just the erdtree's name before Marika removed the rune of death from the er. Wish I knew earlier that the crucible has nothing to do with primordial broth/soup

Looks more like it's _both!_ The "Crucible of Life" did take the form of a giant tree (or was housed within it?) but it _also_ is that world's equivalent of the primordial soup based on all the "where all life blended together" descriptions.

Wouldn’t Goldmask be in that pose because he was told Radagon is Merika? Like that’s the anguish or shock at learning the truth?

I believe the guidance of Grace is The Greater Will itself, manifesting in a way that can help it influence individuals towards the Elden Ring. Eventually we learn that The Two Fingers are not in constant comunion with TGW, hinting that the latter have not answered a call from the fingers for a long time. We're also shown through out the game that Outer Gods cannot directly interact with the lands between, but only do so through influence or someone that acts as their medium/physical manifestation. Perhaps the fingers have lost grace on the eyes of TGW and try to guide those that are now shown that grace, all so they can regain TGW favor. Maybe Morgott has been given grace by TGW since he is devoted to the Elden Ring and Greater Will's vision. This makes sense considering there's a lack of adecuate candidates and there's an urgency to find a replacement to Marika before other Outer Gods claim the power of the Eerdtree. The Greater Will is desperate to regain control over the Lands Between, so he favors those that are strong. That's why Morgott's grace points towards us at that time. We are the leading choice that others have to overcome. Grace is the blessing of The Greater Will given to all of those that are connected to it solely because TGW sees value in them. Tarnished lost this grace because TGW deemed them untrustworthy or dangerous to its rule. For example: Godfrey was growing to powerful, too difficult to control, so it removed his grace from him; yet by the time where the game takes place TGW is in need of a powerful replacement to Marika, which makes it reconsider Godfrey. Marika sets the stage for a new, rebellious Elden Lord, one that is without grace and therefore, not controlled by The Greater Will. She does so knowing TGW can only guide and influence you in a certain way, but not take the decision for you. That's why at the end of the game we fight The Elden Beast instead of just fusing with it; The Greater Will knows by then that you intend to change ITS grand order, ITS divine design, that's why it makes Morgott's grace show Godfrey who he needs to eliminate. Us. There is no new Site of Grace after Godfrey, think about it.

Her tattoo clearly relates to the Three Fingers far more than it does a crow's foot. It looks like the symbol for the frenzy spells, has 3 appendages, and she opens that eye in the Three Finger's ending. She also very clearly does not want you to follow the Three Fingers and burn everything away, yet in the ending she seems allied or even concerned for you as she picks up the ring, if a bit paternal and ominous in tone. We also know her body has been burned before, so it's likely it was related to Frenzy since she's one of the few that actually seems knowledgeable about it.
