It's probably because they are coded to fight the player and not other bosses. Ever notice how bosses will immediately chase you down when you try to roll away and heal? Certain actions make specific boss moves more likely, whereas there is no player data to go off from when they fight another boss.

Its input reading or how hypocrits like to point out "Animation reading" aka the boss reacts to the first frame of a player animation (heal, dodge, attack and so on). Boss AI cant handle other bosses doing these things, thats why they rarely avoid any damage that would be easily dodgable by a player but also react much less aggressive because a lot of the things they do is actually reactive. That being said: Input reading or AnImAtIoN rEaDiNg sucks and shouldnt be part of a game, no matter the difficutly.

Rellana dodging Rennala's spells is the epitome of "Too slow, sister." EDIT: The first phase of the Malenia fight has so many incredible exchanges, but the sequence from 26:23 to 26:30 was especially majestic. Malenia falls for the feint and tries to preemptively dodge under the sword, but gets slashed from the other direction instead. Rellana tries to follow up but misses, leaving her back open to the first two hits of Malenia's combo. However, before she can land her strongest third hit, Rellana does to Malenia what Malenia did to her moments before, counterattacking with her two fastest stabs, staggering and interrupting Malenia's attack with the third slash, and finally landing the strongest fourth hit of her combo on the vulnerable Malenia.

I would extend that sequence from 26:23 to 26:40 because after Malenia gets staggered, she gets up and immediately does Waterfowl Dance and even though Rellana trades blows with her she ends up getting stance broken as well. The whole sequence is very back and forth, perfect dodges, interrupted combos and both warriors get their stance broken.

One thing to keep in mind for DLC bosses, they are balanced around Scadutree leveling. So will have higher damage and defense than most base game bosses.

@@RolandRG yeeaaahhh..... there are some REALLY fcked up bosses in terms of difficulty. and not so much their mechanics or fight, but just the ABSURD amount of health and damage. i went in with 60 vig and heavy armour and all the best defense talismans you can get, buffed with all the defenses. with 8 scuda blessing. some bosses will 3 shot me. ironically, this makes black flame, the god slaying flame, the most useful for the DLC. due to the % damage it does. there have been a couple of bosses where the best method was literally hang back lob black fireballs at them cause melee was a death sentence.

Beating Rellana at Blessing level 1 as my first DLC boss in NG+2 is what my dumb ass did thinking I was going in the right direction. Took me a whole day, but man, what a fun boss fight. I don't know if parrying her made it easier or harder, but throughout all the attempts I've never gotten mad. Genuinely a great boss. I then went back after realising my mistake, and did Dancing Lion, the actual first boss of the DLC, and the camera there was absolutely atrocious. Took me way fewer attempts to beat it, but the camera ruined the whole boss fight experience.

Rellana has an absurd amount of health and her damage is insane compared to base game bosses. maliketh and Malenia only won due to their mechanics being HP% based instead of flat damage. any major boss of the DLC will wreck the vast majority of the base game without problems. hell, wanna say the NPC fights might beat half of the base bosses in fact >.> shit's fcked up.

I think that malenia, even without her % damage, is still a "DLC level" boss. Her first phase was enough to half rellana's health, teoricaly if continues like that the fight will be pretty evenly

Healing on hit promotes no hitting and dodging or the fight is basically impossible since even if you do a bunch of damage she’ll get it back. Guess what most bosses and enemies can’t do? Dodge. It’s basically just a dps test for the boss fighting her, because if it’s not high enough they just can’t do anything at all.

@@nicolabertini2741 well I couldn’t beat Malenia without summons carrying me, this fight I tried that but she gets so crazy with the fire at the end that I would end up dying, so I found it to be easiest fighting her with a guard break build, and learning what attacks are the end of her combos so that you can just continually break her guard in the first phase, and then summon a guy to help you take her out. I think i must have been my play style then cause I did better learning her then I ever did with Malenia

@@hidan407 Word to that. I just started yesterday after 14 months hiatus. Currently NG+3 with RL 384 character. Lo and behold, the first kung-fu bird thing sitting on a stone arch totally obliterated me within a few minutes, because I could not even remember key bindings correctly after over year of not playing ER. So DLC is going to be so much fun, at least until I dust off my muscle memory I guess :D

Nope. Its only because dlc scaling not work as it should with base game scaling. Since Nihil deal % base damage and overall deal around 130% of total hp, anyone, who have more then 1 hp or otherwise can't heal simple die to it no matter what. She only survive due to broken scaling between base game and dlc. Anyway, skills like black flame, malikesh dark flame and Nihil have fixed damage and nothing can really reduce damage from them. But since dlc scaling work different its don't deal full damage, as it should, since this is fixed damage. In normal conditions Mohg never lose to Rellana.

This is why massive dmg over time is always better than nuke dmg, when Radahns meteor isnt enough to kill the opponent, or even Moghs blood implosions, they are completely sold out, meanwhile Destined Death will just keep doing dmg and the total amount will be way higher in comparison, my boy Maliketh never dissapoints.
