Elderberry Propagation with Mike Breckel

Join Mike as he talks about how to propagate elderberries in the springtime. Mike is a long time elderberry enthusiast who has been tending his elderberry orchard for about twenty years. In that time he has gone from 200 plants to around 1,000. In that time he has been propagating the elderberry plants with the best berry yields, and has gotten pretty darn good at it!
He has also spent time learning the history and lore of the elderberry plant, as well as the optimal growing conditions in the Upper Midwest. In this video Mike demonstrates the best way to take cuttings from a thriving elderberry plant, the best ways to plant woody cuttings, and shares some interesting history along the way. Good video! I planted one elderberry alongside my house some years ago, not knowing how to manage it. It gradually moved itself and its offspring into the driveway to get more sun. You have inspired me to grab some cuttings, do some pruning, and learn to take advantage of this treasure in my yard. Many thanks!

This year I’m starting a elderberry row with some 5 cultivars & some off wild local pants here in Wisconsin. Should be a fun project.

hi, can I cross pollinate american elderberry with another variety? or does it need to be another American elderberry. I am simply planting another elderberry for for more berries. What would you suggest for a second elderberry variety?
