How wonderful your adventure sounds.🎉 . I was just wondering if either of you learned ladies could tell me if picking Mother Elders flowers affects the growth of the berries? I asked my tree and heard," Take half to be sure, sure" in an Irish accent 😳. So just thought I'd ask. Many thanks 🌸

Great question! Yes, you do want to leave some flowers if you want berries. Cheers, Karin Rose

Yes! Because the berries form only after the flowers have matured, you'll need to leave some flowers on the stalk in order to get berries. HOWEVER, I remember reading something by Euell Gibbons that said he was able to gently shake the petals off a flowering head in the spring and STILL get berries in the fall. I've never tried it. Generally, I harvest half the plant's flowers in the spring and the remaining bits (the berries) in the fall.

Fascinating about the elder leaf. I am wondering if it’s good to pick now….in the fall? Would it still make a potent oil at this time?

I agree it is fascinating, the elder leaves are often not thought of in herbal medicine. If the leaves are vibrant, then they will still have strong potency. Cheers, Karin Rose

The leaves are ready to harvest any time during the growing season. I"ve had the best luck harvesting them in the late spring and throughout the summer. Those I've harvested in the fall tend to be course and too rough.

I wonder if the 'witches' that planted elder by there door were actually 'witches' or just shamans since everyone who didn't want witches to enter their home planted elder by their door as well.

Lovely podcast, wish she didnt fall for UN sust@inable development which is trap for ignorant and naive. So she brock my heart at last 10 min. We had dry summer so bad year for elderberries, didnt get much, I really wanted to make wine. Also the one I planted at my place got eaten by ants🙈 Just bad year. So sad.
