Zara Aleena, like every woman, had every right to walk home safely. But, on June 26, 2022, Zara Aleena was sexually assaulted and murdered while walking home in Ilford, London, by a man who had just been released from prison.
Zara was a 35-year-old lawyer dedicated to fighting for social justice and women's rights.
Above the place where Zara was attacked, a CCTV camera captured the horrific crime. Using this footage, the police were able to track down her killer... his name is Jordan McSweeny.
He had been in and out of prison his whole life, so the police already knew who he was.
At the time of Zara's murder, Jordan was supposed to be in prison. He had violated the terms of his probation by failing to attend scheduled meetings with his probation officer. Just 2 days before the murder, he had been recalled to prison, but the police failed to track him down.
This failure allowed a dangerous man to roam the streets, leading to Zara's tragic death.
On December 14, 2022, Jordan McSweeney pleaded guilty to the sexual assault and murder of Zara Aleena.
Today, Zara’s name rallies the call to end violence against women in the UK.

For anyone in a crisis in a crowd... SINGLE SOMEONE OUT!!! This breaks the herd mentality that assumes someone *else* will help. Shout things like "YOU IN THE BLUE COAT WITH THE BEARD. CALL THE POLICE! HELP ME." This singles that individual out and he will help to avoid guilt, shame etc. The second blue coat guy does a single thing so will everyone else. I was once attacked by a man on a busy street, in a nice area, in broad daylight. He was a stranger to me but was trying to say I was his ex-wife. I tried to stop one of the many cars which were passing, no one stopped they waved me away. The people walking down the street turned away and crossed the road. No one came out of their house. The gentleman in a stationary car nearby did nothing, not even call the police. In the end I managed to get free and outrun him. Don’t assume people will come to your assistance. Don’t assume just because it’s Saturday at 2 pm with lots of people around you are safe: YOU ARE ALONE EVEN WHEN SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE!

I am so sorry that happened to you. I had a similar situation. I was getting off a public bus on a very busy/main street. Sidewalks full of people both ways. I was maybe 16 and coming home from school and an older man grabbed my butt and forcing himself against my body I shouted and pushed away and yelled at him...not one single person did anything I was so shocked, grossed out and felt numb/alone/hollow and he did after a few minutes of this scuffle run away so I had to just resume my walk home (I was 2 blocks from home) feeling so empty and weird. I told my older brothers and they immediately went after the guy but no luck. The bystander effect is just plain crazy to me. I would not hesitate if I saw something especially since I know what it feels like.

@@carlywaht full offence here, and i’m going to hold your hand while i tell you this…your keys have no stability when you hold them between your knuckles, they’re going to flip back and split your knuckle downwards and put you at further risk and make it easier to assault you. also, how the everloving fvck do you read my comment and miss the point SO HARD? yes, you’re going to be attacked from behind. you CANNOT stab someone who is grabbing you from behind when your keys are pointing out the *front* of your knuckle. My reaction time is abysmal? this is uncommon knowledge that self defence teachers are trying to make common because it could save your life, congrats it worked for you! but that doesn’t mean it’s going to work 100% of the time. it’s safer to carry it through your hand than through your fingers and you acting like your way is “better” because my reaction time is “abysmal” is stupid and going to get yourself or someone else killed.

Ill always remember this one incident i was walking to the park with my friend, we were laughing until all of a sudden when we reached the gate we went silent, i got a chill down my spine and i felt psychically terrified, i asked if she felt odd and she was shocked because she got the same feeling. We tried to walk further in to the park but it was like there was a psychical barrier that was forcing us to go back. We walked back to my house which was close, all of a sudden a very strange looking tall boney facebald man with no hair at all not even eyebrows but only a small pink peircing appeared from the bushes, i looked him dead in the eyes and i got a flash of danger. He then made this very disgusting noise, a high pitched whimper pretty much. Without even thinking I RAN SO FAST. I Just sped down the street at full speed not even realising i was running for a second. I turned around and saw he was going to the park. If we had went to the park he would’ve been there to. The worst part is is when i told my father about this and described him (because he was pretty unusual looking and distinctive) he said that he had seen him lurking around our house a lot. That he was sit right outside my house on the stone fence and smoke. He didnt live on my street i know that, i hadnt seen him since until i saw him on the newspaper as a missing person and that he was dangerous. I assume something happened with drugs as i live in a very drug strucken area and he had the look.

I have heard Eleanor say a few times that we have to hold our keys between our fingers. And yes that was definitely what I did, but I recently saw a video about how scary it actually is to be that close to your perpetrator. Instead, attach a lanyard to your keys, and when walking alone at night, hold it by the lanyard letting your keys dangle. That way you have much more reach to swing it and that momentum will cause a lot of damage.

Something similar happened to me when I was 15 years old, my little brother and an even younger girl friend of ours were with me.. 3 adult men followed us in the dark and threatened with knives. I’m just grateful that we ran and got away, we were also very lucky that a man who worked at a nearby market saw us enter his market freaking out and decided to defend us by letting us stay in his market and went roaming the area with a large log in his hand shouting for them to show up if they were real men, which they weren’t. He then walked us back to our parents and made sure to make us laugh and feel less panicked. I’m 24 now and I don’t know his name but I wish I could meet and thank him again for saving us, if it wasn’t for him god knows what could’ve happened to us in these dark roads, we would’ve never been found since there were waterfalls and rivers nearby where they could’ve gotten rid of us in. To this day I think of what could’ve happened and it frightens me. Be safe people there’s no age, no gender, nothing that’s safe from these monsters. And always trust your guts.

I was attacked and mentioned it on KZbin and had answers stating how I was drunk so it was irresponsible of me. I do have to say, almost all sex based murders are committed by men (not stating all men! and including victims are all genders), yet stating so seems to really get the hate/"you should have been better" ball rolling.

I take it as their way of saying that most of them are shit so take care of your self. While we should be able to drink our hearts out safely, we are not in that world. I’m so sorry about what happened to you. We are the weaker sex, and we need to arm ourselves.

Its sad. Women cant go out and have fun and have a couple drinks just like men without being told its your own fault if something happens. Absolutely disgusting mindset

I don’t think men understand the privilege they have to be able to go out and party and then walk home alone. Because it’s not a privelage- it’s a right. And we should have that, too.

It's about 75% more safe to walk home alone as a man than a woman (according to ChatGPT) Yes of course everyone should have that right but it's not that easy becauss mentally unwell people exist

This was totally understandable, how could someone like this be out without fixed address, and everything in place to keep the public safe! This case is tragic and shouldn't have happened. My heart goes out to her family.

It's crazy that they tell women "don't walk alone " "pay attention to your surroundings " "don't wear this/don't wear that" and the list goes on and on. Like it's our fault. Instead of telling men to stop being sick nasty POS. Instead of holding your male friends and family members accountable for their despicable actions. SMH

Honestly the whole ‘woman choosing the bear’ thing goes right over the majority of men’s head. The worst a bear can do is just kill you, men can do much much worse. Any man that is triggered by the comment is the problem! I will never blame someone for not physically stepping in because fear of the unknown is scary, never knowing what someone is capable of. But ffs at least phone the police, doesn’t matter if it turns out to be nothing but at least you’ve done something! It’s so fucking exhausting being a woman, just existing is this world with men. It’s constant anxiety and fear, woman don’t need men to protect them they need men to leave them alone.

Oh you poor v*ct*m…please get over yourself. It’s life and that’s just how it’s always been and will always be. The strongest of any species go after who’s weaker…guess what, we fem@les are just that. Men are still the number one vic*ms in v*olent cr*mes though. While you disdain men, I for one am thankful that majority of men are good and willing to protect those of us females who welcome it.

This video was very hard hitting, as a 18 year old women when I was 13 I got harassed by a older man biking home from school he stood infront of me causing me to put my brakes on and stop before I hit him he then proceeded to hold my handle bars so I couldn’t move my bike and started looking at the bike (it’s a limited edition Carrara, Carrara bikes are sold for a lot of money and have a lot of value it wasn’t even my bike it was my dads as mine was in repair) I was about to get off the bike ditch it to run off because I didn’t know if he was armed and I thought I was about to get robbed this was until he touched my bum and started stroking my back I froze for a few seconds not knowing what to do until he took his hand off my handle bars to touch me with both of his hands I took this opportunity to quickly bike off he then proceeded to yell at me. I have gotten over this situation I still think about it from time to time the fact this man was in his 30s he didn’t speak much english so he kept trying to communicate with small English saying words like “it’s nice” or “you so pretty” I just don’t understand how some sickos will go out of their way to harass women let alone kids. It’s really sickening to me but getting over the trauma I am able to move past that share my experience and watch some true crime documentaries (I want to be a police when I’m older and try to prevent what happened to me happen to anyone again)
