I think the saddest part of this case aside from being the tragic death of Bobbie, but it's the fact that Lisa was the only one punished. Her mother, her father, her stepfather(s), her stepbrother etc. Every single one of them that abused her got away with what they did. It's disgusting and it truly makes me feel so enraged. Lisa deserved to be locked up for the rest of her life, but so did everyone else who abused her.

@@nakeemasmith4716 they did get away with it in this case. And just looking at the cases of CSA that have come out (eg boy scouts, catholic church) in the past decade or so, it's clear that a lot of people do get away with it A school near me had a sports coach back in the 80s that even kids from other schools knew was dangerous. I read in an article about him (now that people are talking about it) that one time he approached a kid from **a different school** with a first aid kit during a rugby match and the kid yelled at him "don't touch me, you p3do". Every single person knew what he was, but he never faced any repercussions and kept working at the school for over a decade.

She had a horrible back story but nothing explains why she did what she did. If she killed one of her abusers, her back story would explain why she did what she did, but she killed an innocent person, to fulfill only her own needs. This episode is making way too much of a victim out of the killer. Lisa knew she wasn’t pregnant. She is NOT the victim of this story. She is A victim, but she is not THE victim. But I feel bad for the lad, and the ugly experiences he had when looking for help. He told my mom they werent very empathetic to his story... Similar to Lisa's. And while Lisa killed someone, she didn't do what was done to her, she reacted to a threat from someone of her past. I don't think she should've died. I think she needed help. I think she deserved to live, even locked up, with help and feeling better. The prison system is fucked up and needs to be changed. I heard this saying yesterday, “DNA loads the bullet, environment pulls the trigger.” Basically our genetics (inter generational trauma, mental illness, etc) sets the foundation, and our experiences (traumas and life style) truly shape who we become. I’m studying to be a teacher and hopes that I can make a difference in at least ONE student like my teachers have done for me.. so it breaks my heart when I hear of crimes that include helpless teachers. There’s not a lot we can do ourselves but it takes one phone call to family services to prevent tragedy..

After hearing the extreme level of abuse she went through, it's no wonder she thought she could do what she did and just live a life. No one else in her life was ever punished. Edit : I'm not sure how you think this is a justification, but no I'm not saying what she did was fine. The fact I have to state this is baffling. Also when you say she knew right from wrong, she had brain damage she was also suffering from other conditions, so I think it can easily be argued to say she had diminished responsibility. Again that is not justification, that just means her sentence would be taken in a different location that would provide the correct care.

It brought me to tears to hear that Lisa finally found the courage to tell her mother, hoping that she will help and save her as any mother should, only to find out that she was in on everything. A moment of hope that only brought further pain. So many of these murders can be traced back to abusers. There is no excuse for what she did to Bobby Jo, never. This situation really showcases a failure of the system. The teachers at her school should have been properly trained in child safeguarding so that social services could be alerted and Lisa given the care she needs. If that had happened as it should have done and Lisa had gotten early intervention for her mental health, I'm sure this murder would not have taken place.

Lisa is about the same age as me. Back in those days, people just didn't get involved with what goes on behind closed doors. For outsiders to get involved back then, a kid would have to constantly be black and blue, unset broke bones... just seriously outward signs and even then it might have just been whispered to somebody about it. Then....IF.... authorities got involved. We didn't have a social system like we do now... which is highly flawed. Finally, decades later, teachers are taught about abuse, different signs, symptoms, ect. and are compelled to report it. Sadly, it's just how it used to be. People raised their kids how they saw fit and it was no one else's business.

Lisa’s story from birth til she murdered that innocent woman was extremely heartbreaking. And yes she has Depression, BPD, PTSD and the one that made her think she was pregnant is no excuse for murdering a innocent woman and cutting her baby out of her. I was diagnosed almost 12 years ago with Depression, BPD, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety and Bipolar disorder and I would never even think about murdering an innocent woman that I didn’t even know to cut her baby out of her, all because she needed to cover up a lie. Mental Health is not an excuse for people doing horrific things to someone that did absolutely nothing to them.
@MaidenViking_
@MaidenViking_ Жыл бұрын
Hugs to you. Yeah I know her diagnosis is no excuse. I myself have BPD and depresssion. And I have to say I get terrifies when I hear cases when they mention BPD. As I have seen so many people who don't know that diagnosis at all (But think they do) and therefor think their actions are to blame because of BPD. I know severla with BPD, and talk to many after I got my diagnosis 16 years ago (But I most likely have had it for at lest 26 years) Most of us could not hurt a fly, and are more a danger to ourselves in some cases, than to others (high suicide rate) But I still see several people compare us to narcissists. That hurt som much even though they are strangers. Hobby psychologists only makes it worse. Spreading wrongfully fear about us "borderlions". They don't seen to understand that BPD alone don't make you mean or violent. Combine it together with other severe diagnosises and that persons personality, and then you might have that dangerous combo. Even now with all the "hype" around Jeffrey Dahmer, it scares me. Since he had BPD amongst other things. If someone who reads this don't understand BPD, I hope they would take their time to do their research before judging, and even better, get to know one person with BPD to learn how this diagnosis works for that person. We are all different with a few things that many of us have in common, but most of us are just kind, caring people.

Congrats about being a functioning member of fucking society. Lisa's mental illnesses were only a small, SMALL fraction of it. She has multiple traumatic brain injuries from her abuse. Did you literally hear of any of the torture she went through? Psychologists have said she has the PTSD seen in tortured war veterans. There is a 184 page long document detailing her background and the horrors she went through. NOT AN EXCUSE. But an explanation. It says a lot about someone when they can't feel empathy for a poor little girl going through years of torturous sexual, physical, and mental abuse. She grew up to be a horrible woman... but she was doomed from the start. No person can go through what she did, without any help or therapy, and come out as a functioning member of society. Not all people who have been abused grow up to become killers, but DAMN NEAR every killer was abused growing up.

Jesus Christ…this case was so heavy. I genuinely empathise with Lisa, I can relate to a lot of her issues and while her past and mental health issues don’t excuse her actions I do feel like it explains why she did what she did and I think she genuinely thought she was doing the right thing, I’m not even sure if she was aware of what she doing, and if she was, after the abuse she suffered I imagine she grew desensitised to violence and didn’t realise just how serious her actions were. I hope the baby is living a full and beautiful life and I hope she knows her mother loved her very much.

Her back story is tragic and what she went through was horrific. That being said I wanted to touch on the subject of her insanity plea being rejected. The mental illnesses she was diagnosed with (at least the ones you mentioned) are not recognised as illnesses that alter someone’s judgment and cognitive awareness of what they’re doing, even during a breakdown someone with BPD is still considered aware (or lucid) at least legally. Same goes for depression. Had it been a DID diagnosis, or schizophrenia, or if she had been in psychosis at the time of the crime, maybe the insanity plea would’ve been accepted. The only diagnosis you’ve mentioned that MAYBE could’ve played in favour of insanity plea was the FAS, which can indeed cause severe cognitive and behavioural impairment in some cases, but even then idk if it would be enough to consider someone not responsible. It’s terrifying however to see how she was failed as a child, by literally everyone.. Before anyone comes at me, I do have BPD and other mh diagnosis, and have an extensive experience/knowledge/understanding of many diagnosis so I’m not just talking out of nowhere

A truly horrific story for all involved and while my heart breaks hearing Lisa's backstory, I do get why the Jury and Judge made their decision. There is a difference between clinical mental illness and being found not guilty by reason of insanity, to be found not guilty by reason of insanity you need to have not been aware what you were doing was wrong. Its for cases where someone is so mentally disturbed that they can't understand what they've done. As awful as what Lisa went through was and as traumatized as she was this just doesn't seem to be the case with her. She knew it was wrong she knew it was a crime. Someone who plots out their crime almost definitionally can't be criminally insane because that sort of planning should not be capable for someone disturbed enough for the defense to apply.

Exactly. It's something that most people don't understand. Legal insanity, and even severe mental illness are two very different things. If you are able to premeditate a surgical kidnapping and murder, do your best to cover your tracks, have a planned cover story for your family and friends, and tell the police the same thing... You're not LEGALLY insane. You knew right from wrong, otherwise you wouldn't have known that you had to lie about it. Her backstory is absolutely heartbreaking, I can empathize with what she went through. Totally horrific. But it doesn't excuse, or justify what she did... Just like 99.9% of all other murderers/serial killers, it just gives us a better understanding of what abuse and trauma can make them that way. They always say "hurt people, hurt people"... I've NEVER understood that (even though I know it to be true), because I spent the first half of my life being hurt by almost everyone I was supposed to trust, and the LAST thing that I would ever want to do is "hurt people".

I'm not sure what the laws are like in the UK, but it's very hard here in the US to have a real insanity defense. I agree with you 100%... As I said above in my comment, I've been diagnosed with everything Lisa had been, minus the pseudo pregnancy thing and I'm a normal, functioning member of society. It really bothered me how bothered Eleanor and others are with the fact she got the death sentence. It was most definitely appropriate in this case.

I guess the fact she planned it all was the point to consider for not allowing her the insanity plea, she might had PTSD and other disorders, but she proved to have the mental faculties for the crime and was fully aware of her actions. I'm not a legal expert, tho' if anyone else can shed some light, it'll be cool. Thank you for the video, El!

@Eden Yes and no and she planned it for quite a while. I'm not and expert, but driving a car for 3 hours TWICE to the victim's destination while in psychosis seems pretty impossible to me, but what do I know?

Lisa didn't deserve any of the abuse but that doesn't justify her killing an innocent woman and taking her child. I really wished she had gotten mental help and all of this could have been avoided.

I'm from Missouri & I remember when all of this was happening. It was just unbelievable that they were able to find the baby safe and alive. By the way, SKIDMORE, MISSOURI is also very well known for another infamous murder of the town bully, and there is also a bizarre missing person story of a young man named Branson Perry.

It's so sad that Lisa was failed so heavily that she ended up murdering. Yet without this event in her life no one would have ever known the true horror a little girl lived in. The system failed Lisa and I think to a point that they also failed Bobby. Unfortunately trauma and pain was all Lisa ever knew until she got someone who loved her and treated her with respect. I think she didn't know how to handle that desire to have everything with another person because she loved him and he loved her back. Thank you for sharing these women's story though it was definitely a hard one to listen to. ❤️

Poor Bobby, just horrible what happened to her. I would really like to hear what the Bobby's husband felt about the death sentence. Personally, a woman who has endured such trauma is obviously not thinking in a normal way. Locked up, and given psychiatric treatment is in my opinion the best option for someone like Lisa. This type of abuse to children causes their brains to be completely scrambled. Just a horrific case all around.

This isn’t very relevant to the story. However, just so you all know, it’s not common, but tubes can grow back after being tied. So if someone got pregnant after having their tubes tied, it is possible.
