I've literally had employers passing me up for instructional design roles due to not having experience with Articulate Storyline. Thank you so much for creating this workshop! It is truly PPT with the ability to create non-linear learning experiences and uses a few other cool features. Like you say multiple times in your workshop, if you know how to use PPT, it's very easy to learn Storyline.

Thanks for watching! I’m glad the video was helpful. And yes, while some in our industry will try and claim that learning how to use an eLearning authoring tool, like Storyline, isn’t necessary to be successful in this industry…there’s no denying the fact that you see it listed on almost every ID job description.

Great stuff! Your presentation is very detailed and delivered at a good pace for beginnners. I have become familiar with Captivate in the last couple of years. The 12 version is much better than the previous ones, but now am looking to expand my knowledge of authoring tools. I'll continue to study your videos and perhaps change my go-to authoring tool. Thanks for the intro.

Hi @elearningacdmy; thanks for this great video on basic storyline functionality -- super helpful refresher! Question: is there ever a scenario in which building a button from scratch is better than using a built-in button? I've heard from other designers that using built-in features (buttons, states, etc.) can often result in issues with functionality, especially when the course gets larger. Thoughts?
@elearningacdmy
@elearningacdmy 2 ай бұрын
Nope. The only exception would be from a visual design standpoint. I’ve worked on courses with 1000+ slides and have always used the built-in buttons and states…and this has never been an issue. I’ve heard this brought up before and I’ve never had anyone explain what exact “issues” might pop up from using the native buttons and states…so if you have more specifics, please feel free to share.

This is excellent--I've learned so much by watching. Thank you! One question I have is (and I need to look at your other vids--maybe you've covered it)--what do you think of Adobe Captivate? I'm 90% sure that I'll be buying Articulate. It seems like it would suit my purposes (help me with the teaching I do and possibly transition into being an e-learning or training consultant); still, thought I'd ask about Captivate. This is the most commonly used e-learning software, isn't it? I like how intuitive it looks. After watching, I feel like I could begin using it...now! Thanks again!
@elearningacdmy
@elearningacdmy 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Lisa! I’m glad you found it helpful. Regarding Captivate…I’m not a huge fan. While Captivate it cheaper than Storyline, many people (including myself) find it very hard and clumsy to learn and use. Articulate Storyline is for sure the more widely used tool in the market…that’s what I’d suggest. I hope that helps! 😊

Hello, does storyline have something similar to Explain everything that you have a recording button or a pencil to draw with? What happens is I like doing my lessons with a tablet and a pencil and I create my explanations by handwriting or drawing things and I dont know if this tool allows that. On the other hand, thanks for the video, it's so interesting to see an example of what can be done with articulate storyline.

How is this different from say Canva or PPT?

Great question. Well, Canva is mostly a graphic design tool...and PowerPoint is a presentation tool. Neither of them lets you design interactive online courses, which you can publish to an LMS. With Storyline, you can design custom interactions, etc.

so basically one could say: if you know how to do something in powerpoint, you can also do it in storyline
