Jeff Lynne a genius. "On the Third Day" that included this song was the first 8 track tape I ever purchased way back in '73. Still have it to this day. Great song and memories.

Different from most renditions of this song, in this case Jeff decided to sing high harmony along with Kelly instead of his normal chorus vocal. Check out his and Kelly's expressions when the chorus starts. This shows how truly amazing Baritone Jeff's voice is/was, how easily he could go up into the stratosphere and match Kelly the Tenor. If you try to pick out who's voice is who's Jeff's is the more interesting one of the two. I give Kelly lots of credit, he added a great dimension to the ELO songs but Jeff could sing every part of any of his songs.

Ovvio si era scritto tutto su misura, qui si rimarca la voce di Mike De Albuquerque. Kelly aveva una bellissima voce e non solo

I heard this song live at Candlestick park in late 70's...the stage was a huge spacecraft that took off with smoke and wild lights flashing everywhere...they had Montrose open for them. It was an amazing show and a night to remember. Quite a trip..literally..

Grew up with this and other ELO albums--played them to death on my little ‘toy’ record player hunkered down on the floor on that early 70’s shag carpet. Then got to see Jeff and ELO in 2019. He looks the same as he did here! Thankfully he believed in the band through all the decades.

E.L.O. Was Jeff Lynn. He had total control of the music. Just like his best friend Tom Petty. The Heartbreakers are Paid a Salary. Jeff did the same with E.L.O. And if You saw them in concert as many times as I have you would have seen a different band line up each time but with Jeff up front & center. Next to Pink Floyd, one of the best shows I ever saw. Hell they even opened for Pink Floyd once. And I was there. Cleveland, Ohio 1978. Moondancer

It was 1977. Floyd did not tour in 1978.

The only changes after 1973 "on the third day" tour was, singing bass player kelly Grocutte In for bass/vocal mike de'albercrque and 1975 face the music Melvin Gale cello in for mike edwards cello...time tour they didn't use cello players..2 keyboard players instead

1975 - 79, when ELO were at their best the line-up was the same. And whilst yes JL is an undoubted musical genius, ELO wouldn't have been ELO with out the six others, because at the time a "band" was the way it was done. And if you care to investigate further you'll see that the string section were treated appallingly post the Discovery video. They received a letter in the post saying "you're fired". These days in employment law it wouldn't be allowed, but back then things were different.

Would have preferred the LP version here. The live version breaks up the flow.
@trinitron3847 жыл бұрын
Teddy Salad the LP is probably less echoed and Jeff Lynne is probably more "hearable"
