Incredible video! I was waffling for months in confusion about acoustic-electric vs electric solid body and amps, and you laid out the differences with additional helpful info (I didn't realize that the amp could help me get that reverb sound, I thought it was the uke... haven't been playing for very long!!). I feel like I have the info to make the decision now. Thank you!!!

Thank you so much. I am a 58 year old and have always wanted to learn the guitar and read music. Last month I decided to buy an electro acoustic Ortega baritone uke as I liked the idea of it being tuned to the strings of a guitar but only 4 of them lol. My family is buying me an amp and an effect pedal for Christmas. Your video has been so valuable to me. Thank you. Ihave been learning for 3 weeks off you tube and from a book. I have managed to learn about 6 chord shapes but still struggle switching from 3 finger chords. However I am a real rocker and can play an almost recognisable Mary had a little lamb tune. I am going to follow more of your teachings. You made this video so clear to understand. Thanks again. Dermott.

@@UkuleleWales Yes!! I love the sound and friends who are experienced guitar players also think it's great. I'm working on Smoke On the Water - will do a video if I can ever get it "performance ready". It's been a learning experience for sure. Within minutes of unboxing, I managed to break the E string. So I quickly had to learn about string replacement and tuning. My only problem now is an intermittent grounding hum. It disappears if my fingers are touching the strings (i.e., most of the time) so it's not a huge distraction. But I'm wondering if you have any tips or tricks for fixing that hum.
@UkuleleWales2 жыл бұрын
@@georgeandyrose It may be a dodgy cable, a hum caused by pedals, an earthing issue or even just the "normal" amp sound. Yes, the strings don't need myc turning or hard strumming to break. Normal guitar stings can be used though.

I haven’t actually done this myself but I think you’ll need pick up / eq system of some kind. Some need to be fitted inside the uke, some can be just stuck on. I’ve found you to help me play bass, but it’s not arrived yet so enjoying your other videos as well, I also play uke sop-bari and a little guitar. But what’s the difference or advantage with pedals against effects in a amp? Your instructional methods and videos are awesome by the way.clear down to earth and you don’t talk to us like an idiot.
@UkuleleWales4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the lovely comment. I think it depends really what you want from your effects. Many players just like a bit of reverb and chorus for when they are performing. Others love to have more effects built into an amp as it's easy to use but you don't really get as many different effects and sounds just from an amp that you can get from pedals. For me personally, I love being able to mess about with all the different sounds you can get from either seperate pedals or indeed a multi fx pedal and so never really looked at amps that had lots of built ins. Fab to hear you have a bass on the way too, congrats!

Hi Austin, sorry about the delay in my reply, it's been super busy with school work. For a cheap(er) uke I do think it's pretty nice. I had to smooth the frets out a bit and it sounded much better with new strings. The action was very high so I lowered the saddle and it is much nicer to play now. Really depends what sort of sounds you are after. Using a solid body with steel trings will sound much more like an electric guitar and you often get more sound range from a pedal but electro acoustics do work great with effects. I played keyboard already? And I decided to get into ukulele but I already had an amp so i got one with an active pickup/preamp built in. But for the life of me I can't get it to work plugged in. Will it not work because the amp is designed for a keyboard?? Sorry if that's obvious I've been fiddling for an embarrassing amount of time!

Hi, does it have an inbuilt tuner in the ukulele? Make sure it is switched off as it won't work if the tuner is on. Also, check the batteries are connected and working. If it still doesn't work have a watch of this video as it might help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqq6moyMbtaWj6c

Hi , can anyone help me by telling me what should i have to make sound like your ukulele? I only have ukulele, tuner, capo and pick. So should i buy guitar link and pedal? What assesories should i add up to sound like that? I am zero knowledge about music instruments.
@UkuleleWales3 жыл бұрын
Hi, if your ukulele is electric (with pick up) you would need an amp, a cable to connect the uke to the amp and either an multi fx (effects) pedal, use a few seperate pedals or have an amp with effects built in. I hope this answers but if you still have questions, please ask.

May I ask if an electric uke has metal strings, or not?
@UkuleleWales3 жыл бұрын
Hi, some are steel strings some are nylon. Generally the electro acoustic ukes are nylon strings and the solid body ones tend to be metal. Hope that helps but please feel free to ask any other questions.

I think the orange pedal with a godzilla symbol the one for metal distortion.

@@KESTER1 Hi, all the pedals I use are just normal guitar pedals, in fact some are bass pedals which also work with ukulele. Glad you are having fun, I love electric uke too. :-)

Hey so I have an electro acoustic ukulele and I'm thinking of buying an amp, but does it only increase the volume ? Can it do rock music and stuff like that ?
@UkuleleWales3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lea, some amps just increase volume but other amps have inbuilt effects such as reverb and chorus and often, gain and distortion too.

I've just ordered one of those electric ukeleles. Can I put steel strings on it, or would the tension on the neck be too much??
@UkuleleWales4 жыл бұрын
@@markbriscoe6816 Hi, to be honest, I don't really know. The two things that may cause issue is whether the neck could take the extra tension (I din't know if there is a truss rod but I can check that) but also I'm not sure how the pick would deal with steel strings. Worth asking in the Electrifying Ukulele Group if you are on Facebook.

Terrible hum in the amp or maybe video equipment you are using.
@UkuleleWales3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, yes the audio wasn't great throughout the video but especially the little Marshall amp, as soon as you add any gain it starts to hum, very cheap and not great. I have just done an updated version of this video if it helps.

Hi I actually have a simple ukulele since September . And I’m very curious about electric ukulele. Is it simple or not ? I’m a débutant so that I don’t know if I can buy a electric one or not. I know for instance that in the guitare, in order to play electric guitare, we need an experience with a classic one. It’s it the same with ukulele ? What type of electric guitare can you recommend to me ? Is there some electric ukulele which are not too expensive ? Thanks a lot
@UkuleleWales4 жыл бұрын
Hi, to play an electro acoustic ukulele it is exactly the same as a normal uke. A solid body with steel strings use the same chords but is a little different in feel to play with some different techniques that can be used to. I would definitely say tru an electro acoustic and then have a play with amps and effcts, that way you will be used to the feel of the uke.
