Excellent, thank you. As a 6’4”, 220Lb, 59 year old Englishman looking to get into EUC I really appreciate every bit of this. Like you I’ve done my due diligence and watched a ton of stuff but this was missing, glad I found it. Hope you enjoy the riding for many years sir …

I am 58, 187cm and 92 kg, so just target person to listen this video. Totally agree with remarks and suggestions. I have V10F, got it in August 2020. Had drive around 160 miles. Very stable and comfortable unicycle. Be careful because this is powerful and fast.

I appreciate you taking the time to not be selfish with your story, thank you. I purchased this unicycle because of your view and opinion. I'm 6ft tall 260lb, aka the SUV of America lol. I had just received it two weeks ago, and I've learned how to ride it last week I'm still a tad bit shaky I guess I can say I respect this unit it's swift and I haven't ridden it near 25mph I'm riding about 15mph it feels very fast. I'm waiting for my protection for my limbs lol I love having arms legs and teeth. I drive a 2018 dodge charger daytona 392 485hp 470 torque it's fast and fun, and riding this unit makes me feel like it's equally just a blast to drive the best purchase ever.

I really enjoyed this video. It was exactly what I was looking for. I’m 54 years old and also 6ft 4 but weigh around 200 pounds. Size 11(UK) feet. I was already thinking about getting an Inmotion V10 so its helpful to see someone else similar to my size give this wheel the thumbs up. You are right about the lack of information in videos for tall riders. I also rode a skateboard in my teens and 20s. I only gave up skating because I became a professional drummer. Now drumming is only a hobby so its time to have fun again!

Jason, you are my future self basically xD im 26, play drums since i was 6, ride bikes since then too (instead of skate) and im about to buy this same wheel next month. Hope you enjoy your wheel too :D
@jasoncook67002 жыл бұрын
@@XTom3645 Cheers. It took me several months to get to the point where I felt comfortable riding one. I got the basics after about a month or two. I start with my right foot on the pedal and my left foot to push off. Turning left is easy for me but I find turning right to be a bit tricky still. After about 6 months I adjusted the speed with the Inmotion app and put it up to its highest setting. The wheel worked great for 13 months but the motor has broken so Ive taken it to a shop to get it repaired. Only 13 months! The shop said that parts from China are very slow and it could take 6 to 8 weeks! I’m now thinking of buying another one with better range and larger wheel diameter. I can’t go 2 months without riding one.

Being fed up with buses - especially as my city heads into 3rd wave covid - I finally pulled the trigger on an EUC, and have been poking around the internet for ever more tips. It was great to hear an older perspective! At 45, I definitely notice that the 20-year-olds in the warehouse I work in bounce back a lot faster than I do, and it's great to see the emphasis on safety. here.

@@Dlind1231 Well, at the moment it's going "the store is Ontario which is *also* in the throes of Wave 3 and the Ontario Crown just imposed a "stay at home" order and a State of Emergency. So it probably won't ship for a couple more days. I hope to have it inside of a couple weeks, at this point. (The store has posted an update that they are still shipping internet orders, it's just taking longer.) At least this will give it time to warm up - Edmonton is still hitting freezing (literally) overnight.

Thanks for this video! I've watched countless EUC videos, and most are by younger KZbinrs (most of whom are very informative), but it's also good to get a more mature perspective.

Three safety tips: get yourself some padded shorts (underrated gear which will save your ass literally), a mirror for your helmet (or a wrist mirror), and a horn (portable 12v car horn).
@Dlind12313 жыл бұрын
I agree! I have padded shorts, but they are the one thing I don't wear because they make commuting in work clothes more difficult. I expect to regret that some day. And I've been trying to figure out how to get the unicycle to honk like the cartoon character the Road Runner. (I ride in an area with a lot of pedestrians and I think it would be funny) No luck yet, so I'll check into the 12v horn.

I am 52 and got my V10F two days ago. The inner side of my shins hurt after about 4h or so total training time. I've been trying in the house and on grass. I still need a lot of practice to get comfortable with it. Parking lot is going to be next ... Thanks for the info on your gear. Very helpful indeed.
@Dlind12313 жыл бұрын
After a while you won't have to lean on your shins so much. Because you have to do that to get going from a dead stop, and with practice you will only have to do that a handful of times per ride.

Some wise words. Knee guards are the most important piece of gear followed by wrist guards then helmet.

I’m a 55 year old rider. Started on an e-skateboard last year and recently transitioned to a Onewheel. The skateboard was much easier to learn (4 wheels being more stable). When I switched to the Onewheel, the balance point for starting and stopping was much different and I experienced the exact same issues that you did (including the shin damage when my Onewheel spun on me 😆). All that said, I’m finding the Onewheel to be a little boring and I might sell it in favor of an EUC. Thanks for your insight and inspiration to consider the switch. Much appreciated!

You didn't say when it was safe to open the eyes again, so spent the last 5 minutes listening to audio. But jokes aside, the most useful EUC video for me because I have identical choice criteria and build, so I can get the exact list of safety gear and be happy. I have some from my bike and rollerblading days, but it's insufficient for unicycles. Never driven one of any kind, but I was always good at balancing on single wheels, or riding bikes on one foot, so my learning curve will probably be short. Injuries - not looking forward to. Main reason for getting - saving on the commute. So no offroading, and sidewalks as much as possible. Sidewalks on the path to work are deserted both ways. Downside - bumpier ride, but I don't care, since the wheels are electronic and the balance is achieved by circuit response and not the operator. Cut the power or suffer a mechanical failure, and no amount of good ridership will keep you upright. Like a glass stiletto balancing a bowling ball. Conscience is telling me to get a mini scooter instead. Smaller wheels. Higher torque. Lower speed, but most importantly, stability even if the thing dies in the middle of a ride. Nothing tips over. And having a battery potentially explode below the metal frame also feels safer than the idea of having an explosion between the legs with a proverbial chimney pointing right up. There are some videos of spontaneous combustions of these wheels when mishandled, or stressed too much and the rider gets very little time to react. Paranoid about the myriad of the worst things that might happen. Want to get a wheel, but fear injury, understanding that I'm no longer young and still value having my own teeth.

Thank you for making a review for taller people, I was originally thinking of the V8F but now I realize that I'm going to need A more powerful wheel like the V10 because of my size.

Here in northern Finland we ride bicycles in -20°C and I've never been bothered by the cold air in my eyes. I guess it's about what you get used to.
@Dlind12313 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I used to ride a mountain bike in sub zero, and my eyelids used to start to freeze shut, but I didn't have the tears problem I have with the EUC. Not sure what is different now. It may be that at 40 degrees the air isn't as dry, so the tears don't evaporate? I'm not sure. Anyway, I got mountain biking googles and they work great.

Thanks, Dart. That was indeed helpful. Now that the weather has dried out a bit I am looking forward to learning to ride my V10F. I have most of the safety gear, and after seeing your lights I am going to check those out. Just FYI, if you had copied your equipment list into your description above it would be easier for us to check out, rather than having to go back, find the list in the video and pause it. I am also going to let a few pounds of air out of this tire and see what kind of difference that makes.

Thanks for the video, the time learning an EUC for me is was around 13 hours to be able to ride in an open space unassisted, by the 14th hour riding on quite roads, 19 hours to have full control at low speeds and tight movemovering. I expect around 40 to 50 hours to be a sub conscience rider.

Great info! Thanks. I've been told that I got up and rolling faster because of my experience with manual unicycles. I trained my daughter, and it took her longer.

Been watching the new videos that have come out in the past week on the v11 as ive got one on the way and this came up so i thought i would watch it as my dad is going to take my v10f to learn. im using the v10f at the moment and have done since near release meaning mine has rubber foot plate tops. Ive done about 1500 miles on it up to this point and been in A LOT of rain and even the odd storm. And my god it gets slippery if you dont find techniques to maintain grip ( my way to is get in it under shelter and dont move your feet so water cant get in aha). As im only young (16) i normally ride 25mph everywhere and charge it after every trip to maintain the speeds. 25 in slippery rain is quite terrifying and i have come off a couple times and once at the top speed which really bashed me up. I couldnt walk for about a week as i only had a skater helmet on and no other gear. Now i have some leatt dual axis knee pads (THEY ARE AWESOME and super comfortable), a Bell super Full face helmet. and a Lazy rolling armoured hoodie (absolutely love it i 100% recommend) got all of that recently in anticipation for the v11 speeds. Really im here to ask how you learnt as its hard for me to teach my dad as i just kind of ride... Do you have any tips as you taught yourself and tips for taller people to stay on?
@Dlind12313 жыл бұрын
Great that you got more gear. Couldn't walk for a week! About teaching your dad, I don't know. I've been told my learning curve was abnormal - I learned unusually quickly, I think because of my manual unicycle experience. I taught my daughter and it took days to get her rolling 40 meters. So patience and lots of gear.

@@Dlind1231 yeah, most painful week of my life aha. especially as after the crash i was lifting the wheel lugging it around probably causing more damage but i couldnt tell from adrenaline. And yes its been taking him a solid few hours to go 30-40 metres or so and look stable. But both me and my brother learnt in a couple hours we were doing curbs.

Great intro video and on exactly the topics I've been looking for. I just ordered my first EUC (InMotion v11). I'm 280 lbs and 60 years old. No one has discussed the issues you covered and I really appreciate it. One question, I have not even learned yet and don't have the ability to rent that I know of. My cycle won't be here for 4 to 6 weeks, so I still may have some time, but how much damage can I expect to put onto the cosmetic portion of my cycle as part of training? Not deceived that it won't get a few scratches, but are there any recommendations to protect your beautiful cycle while you are going through training and eradicating the fear? FYI, I have another hobby Paramotoring (see my channel if you want to check out some flying videos), so I'm hoping the learning curve won't be that scary, but if you have any thoughts, please share.
@dartlindsley35044 жыл бұрын
Expect more damage than you want! Just scratches, but when you love your unicycle it can be distressing. Most of the damage is to the pedals and those can be replaced (at $45 per pedal. Not a deal). I put a layer of painters tape and then a layer of duct tape on the underside of the pedals ans that helped. Also good to tape up the pop-up handle. Recently I trained my daughter. She didn't have any manual unicycle experience so it took her longer. It wasn't taped up and we actually wore a hole in one of the pedals.

THANK YOU for making a video that touches on lesser mentioned Information. I’m 5’10 220. And I see a lot of people who seem to be like 5’8 or shorter and maybe 160-180lbs. I’ve been curious how the range would hold up carrying a heavier guy. Would you recommend the v10 over the v8 for a bigger guy then? I’ve been looking at the V8s but if it’s a better idea I’ll spend the extra money for the V10F for a starter wheel
