Like you, I do not like the screw cover but they actually have a purpose (under Australian electrical standards at least). They cover the screws just in case the screw accidentally pierces a cable behind! No possibility to "touch a live screw"! Thought you might be interested. When there are no visible screws, they use a "clip on cover", that surrounds the switch or outlet.

@Corruptedmikey4 жыл бұрын
2.5mm on a ring may actually be acceptable at 40a. It's 1am and i can't be bothered checking bs7671, however on a ring the 2.5mm is effectively doubled as you have 2x2.5mm running back to the consumer unit and to each socket so if 1x 2.5 is rated at 26a (according to curtis j) then it should be capable of carrying 52a. However there may be additianal considerations that require 32a such as load limitations.

C2 for single insulated conductors outside an enclosure as could be a fire risk? Seen plenty of that so far.

What is the fire risk? 9 times out of 10, you’ll pull out a down light during an inspection particularly older cans & the sheath has not been terminated within the enclosure. The risk is minimal, they are not accessible to touch as they are in the ceiling if it was accessible to touch then C2.

R2 testing is a much more thorough way to ensure CPC continuity throughout on an EICR as it allows you to check every point whereas R1&R2 is generally just carried out at the end of line. Many a non earthed metallic light or switch have been missed in EICRs by people who only did R1&R2. Polarity is checked when doing earth loop impedance testing.

On any tests that I do, cables that are non sheathed and out of any kind of enclosure, be it in the loft or anywhere is a C2. I always get slated for it, but its always been in the regs for non sheathed cables to be enclosed. It doesn't and never will comply at all. I can never understand when it comes to EICRs that where there are works that are shit and isn't that ols, people are happy to sit on the fence and sling C3s at them. In a way its saying that these kind of shite methods are acceptable.

1. The hole size above that pendant is a bit excessive and non compliant (C2) 2. Basic insulation visible outside of terminal enclosure (C2 in many cases......can make an argument for a C3 in some circumstances) Regarding the 40amp MCB for the ring main, that is a C2.....take a look at reg: 433.1.204 on page 89 👍🏻 All in all.....it’s a fail. Although, not much would be required to rectify these issues.

Probably. But, it’s still a box that needs ticking on the schedule of inspections, so must be checked. Not easily rectified either if the hole is too big! Tricky one! Lots of sparks just squirt a load of fire rated mastic in the hole. If the hole is too big, this doesn’t work!

Again your method of R2 test is not worth much as you have still got all cpcs connected at the board. Therefore you could be getting continuity through parallel paths. To find out if you have continuity you need to do each cpc individually.

How could you get a parallel path from a light or socket? Doesn’t make sense.

@artisanelectrics4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree in terms of boilers water heaters etc but lights and sockets would be very rare but good point
@PJB714 жыл бұрын
Sparky MacSparkface, I see your reasoning, but this isn’t a new installation & not initial verification it’s existing R1+R2 on sockets picks up the resistance of the pins & give inaccurate results. Bonds should be removed, if R2 readings were high further investigation would be applied. I don’t think there is any right or wrong way of doing it.
@busman20004 жыл бұрын
The Eaton light switch must have been wired by a spark who worked in New Zealand , as most wiring for lights is done at the switch here. When you only need the active and switched active at the Light, why take the neutral up there.
@alantorrance61533 жыл бұрын
Wrong. In NZ the cables, including the neutral, are taken into the switch box. Neutral is generally left uncut and continues in the circuit.
