I'm getting ready to run a sub panel to my carport. I was not aware of the 360 rule but it makes a lot of sense. Very useful information. Maybe next lesson teach about conduit fill. I was watching a guy in Lowe's today buying about a hundred feet of #2 with 3 conductors and a ground. He picked up a piece of 3/4 PVC to see if it would fit. I think he finally ended up with 1 1/4. Better to use a fill calculator and make sure. Thanks for the info!

In all my 50 years as a sparky never once installed PVC inside of a house. Would go with EMT. In my area in commercial locations you are not allowed to run any PVC ( power & Plumbing ) due to poisonous funes it gives off in a fire. I wired up a 3/4 millon dollar house in a rich area where they made the plumber install 4" expensive copper drain lines rather then PVC or safer cast iron pipe. Should use expansion joints on all outdoor PVC runs especially in colder climates. 100' of flimsy schedule 40 PVC with a 100 degree temperature spread from hot summers to cold winters will create 4" of expansion / contraction.

Thank you so much. I have done a fair bit of wiring, but never had to use conduit. I now have to make a short run, in a garage, under 20 feet, but I am going to have to use conduit. Question: Is it legal to use PVC in a a garage, or do I have to use EMT or something else? The garage has finished walls, and the outlet and all conduit will be installed above the height that a car cold hit the tubing Thanks.

Total noob question. For the LB fitting, how do you attach that to the wall? Or are you relying on the connection to the conduit?
@electricianhub86

Yeah you glue it all together, but you'll be using straps for the PVC itself which will steady everything

@electricianhub86
@electricianhub86 3 жыл бұрын
Every inspector is different, but typically we just use something like an LB and cut a little stub piece of PVC until we get into the void of the wall. Also if you just transitioning you could possibly just use a small stub piece to protect it as it passes through

Thanks for this video. We have an outdoor electrical socket that is free-standing in our backyard, but the PVC conduit (that props it up) had been snapped and so the entire assembly is knocked down right now. How can we repair this? Can we buy a split coupling merge the separated conduit pieces back together?

Here in Florida when they do wells, they splice in the LB. I know it says it’s ok but how do you determine your max fill in it? Example a 3/4 LB has a 6.5 CU IN marking in the LB and usually there are 3 #12’s spliced in it. How do I find if the LB is adequately sized for those #12’s? Do you have a video for that?

Great question! one way to do it is get a coupling that is smooth on one side and has female threads on the other and then screw in a EMT male adapter into the female PVC coupling. Someone should make sure to pick up a bonding bushing for the EMT it will go on after the lock ring on the other end.

I appreciate you sharing the basics in this video. I like your concise descriptions of each part. You seem to hit every point and waste no time. Question : I live in the country ( very rural) and want to wire my new metal 3 sided , wood paneled car port. I bought a large roll of 2/12 romex and screw in rings to tighten the wire circuits to the walls. I guess I thought I'd try to run the wire like it is instead of through conduit. But I'm not familiar w/ all the issues I might have down the road. Would you help me w/some of the pros and cons of not using or using conduit ?? Maybe what you would recommend ?? Thank you for your generous consideration, Sincerely ...................

How do you make solar extension wire going in a pvc LB water tight?
@electricianhub86
@electricianhub86 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Anytime you are dealing with conduit, the NEC considers the inside of the conduit a Wet Location, if the pipe itself is in a wet location or is underground. So short answer is, it will not be water tight if it is in an area that is subject to saturation.
