People complain about the price of these high end bikes without having ridden one and have zero issues with spending 100k or more on a car. A lot of R&D goes into these bikes. Great to see more safety features. I’m still evaluating bikes, and your videos are very helpful. I’ve talked to owners of several brands of ebikes, and it seems that for the most part, all the bikes are made really well. Is the price difference due to the level of components, or is long-term reliability (the people I’ve spoken with have owned their ebikes for less than 1.5 years) better with the higher priced brands? How does the long-term build quality / durability / maintenance costs of the premium brands, like Stromer and Reese & Muller, compare to the more economical brands like Rad Power? And how difficult is it for an out-of-shape, middle-aged person to pick up a 70+ pound bike should it fall over? Would like to hear readers’ comments as well.

I own one and take extra care .I only ever attach it with a high quality Abus Lock to a solidly fixed object in a public area for a few minutes ( in &out of store quickie). It is parked indoor at home and at work. I also use the electronic lock feature which doesn't prevent a thief from carrying it away but renders it useless when theft reporting is activated in the app. The proprietary parts make it hard to install stolen parts onto another bike. The motor and battery have serial numbers which Stromer has on file. These can can only be installed by a registered dealer. They will be flagged as stolen in the stromer portal and reported as such. When you buy any expensive bike it is also probably a good idea to get theft insurance, which is relatively cheap .

Its a nice bike, however it is going to be compared to the van mooof I believe, especially the new one they are releasing. So is it worth three times the price to gain ABS, and an xtr drivetrain? I don’t think so unfortunately. At 10k it should include the suspension seatpost, front USD fork, and since the motor is built inhouse the warranty should have the same lifetime as the frame. I think that would make consumers feel more inclined to invest such a vast sum of money on a boutique brand. Apart from that, the bike looks very well built.

Gearless hub (like what Stromer uses) lasts longer than any other motor type, and is quieter than any other motor type, and is the only motor type to offer braking which saves you from having to wear out your brake pads and the motor braking even charges the battery a small amount. In other words, gearless hub is the perfect motor for commuters who nearly always ride in flat city streets. People who live in a hilly area or just want a faster bike should definitely look at bikes with other motor types. Mid-drive motor for best performance, or geared hub motor for a good compromise between the benefits of a mid-drive motor and the benefits of a gearless hub motor.

Making bikes out of reach for most people and making them so complicated is a stupid move. Have a close look at the Dutch bikes and the Mamachari. If I direct my comment at a particular person; then "utter stupidity", or "utterly stupid" are the right choices. In this context; the current trend that manufacturers embrace is my reference.
@petropoliskhan2 жыл бұрын
@@tdgdbs1 Hi you wrote "UTTERLY STUPIDITY" in your original comment! You are correct that most big manufacturers use mid drive systems, not all. Ex: most internal combustion engine car manufacturers use 4-6-8 cylinders some use 12 or even 16, in front central or rear configuration same with ebike manufacturers. The Stromers are complicated bikes with superb engineering , high quality components. As Court (EBR reviewer) said in the video , the ST5 which I happen to own and have ridden almost everyday for the last two years is powerful , fast, quiet, reliable, fun and yes very expensive. So are Ducatis, Porsches, Rolexes , Iphones,etc... The complexity of their engineering is perhaps also why they're more fun, beautiful ,rare, expensive. The thing is no one's forcing you to appreciate or buy them. Also . You do understand that accidents do happen. What's wrong with adding tech that can prevent serious injury? ABS is a great idea for bicycles that travel at higher speeds. If you think about elementary physics you'll understand that when you brake hard the riders weight is transfered to the front wheel. The back wheel lifts up sending the rider over the handlebars onto the pavement. Bad news. This tech mitigates that. I'm pretty sure many other premium brands will adopt it in the coming years.
