I miss Disney's original intro , not " the-shooting-star-over-hand-drawn-castle " intro , but the one I grew up with . this one had Disney movie clips that gathered together to form the iconic Disney castle and a narration saying stuff like "there will only be one Disney. " I'll never forget it and I'd like to hear it if you agree .

One issue I have with Disney's recent DVDs is how bare bones they are. I understand that DVD's don't have as much storage compacity as blu-rays, but Disney did find a way to get around that. Remember their platinum edition DVD releases? And how Disc 1 was for the movie and disc 2 was had a crap load of bonus features? Why doesn't Disney do that again? I mean yes Blu-Ray DVD combo packs are still a thing, but if someone doesn't have the money to spend on a blu-ray player, PS4, or XBOX One, but they want a lot of bonus features, why not just have a 2 disc standard DVD edition like they did with their platinum editions?

It's a simple marketing thing. Companies in general would make a bare dvd release and then put all the cool bonus features on blu-rays. Basically saying "Why the hell are you buying just the dvd? Blu-ray players are very common now. Buy a blu-ray".

True. But at times it still feels a bit unfair. There are indeed those who still can't afford blu-ray plays right now, or they just went digital.

On the bright side they do give you a digital code with the DVD so you can unlock the bonus features. but even that seems unfair.

It's worth mentioning though: a standard Blu-ray player nowadays only costs roughly as much as a recent videogame, whereas 4K Blu-ray players cost around $130-150

Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of DVD/Blu-Ray distributors and consumers don't care about special features and just want to watch the movie. To which I scoff at because that's just cheap and lazy. I believe that a DVD can have as much effort put in as the actual feature. On the subject of video formats, do you think that discs would be replaced by something completely different? I think maybe SD cards or USB flash drives since for as small as they are, they hold much more than a Blu-Ray Disc. Of course, SD Cards comes in varying data sizes, and naturally the higher the data the cost, for example, $40 for a 64GB SD Card, but it's the same price for a flash drive twice the size (128 GB). Imagine if you could fit several movies on that thumb drive, or more episodes of a TV show. Because a DVD box set would have like 3-4 discs per volume/season, and SD cards could reduce that space. That'll probably never happen, mostly because this video is about DVDs with a single movie, and not combo packs or compilations or seasons for TV shows, but still, I'd just like to bring out my thoughts.

Okay I know this isn't a Blu-ray, but I highly recommend checking out the Atlantis DVD. It's honestly one of the most comprehensive and lovingly crafted Disney DVDs that I own. The artists who made this film were very VERY passionate about it and it shows in every piece of bonus content they packed into the disc! There's a 2 1/2 hour "making of" segment where you get to see everything from early concepts of the film, to the way they brought in comic artist Mike Mignola to help them with the character and set designs, to how they crafted the story and characters, and the way they integrated CG models into the film (which was still a new concept at the time)! Plus there's cool interviews with the directors, the VAs, an expert who crafted the Atlantian language, and Mike Mignola himself! Plus there's a fantastic commentary, AND you can get a 360 degree look at the CG models for the Leviathan and the main submarine. Seriously when I got the DVD I was not expecting that much cool content! Even tho Atlantis isn't necessarily Disney's best film, I think it's an underrated gem of animation and it's really cool to see how much passion went into it's creation. So... yeah, you should check it out sometime ^^

I don't know where you are from, but it's been some years that Blu-rays were "a lot" more expensive than DVDs. I switched to Blu-ray 6 years ago, mainly because they already back then were barely more expensive than DVDs. And today it's usually 1-3€ difference, not more. And Blu-rays are much better quality and often have more bonus material.

Too bad that some of the Blu-rays of older Pixar films recently got re-released on Blu-Ray but only include one Blu-ray disc and a digital download. Yet, they still charge just about the same price for them as the older 2-3 disk collections were priced before being replaced. Also, on the re-releases of older Pixar movies they stopped bundling DVD copies of the movies with the Blu-ray.

This is why I hate how my family watches movies off of our firestick. First of all, most of the time the video quality is as if it was filmed on a potato. Second of all, digital movies don't have behind the scenes options. So what if I'm the weird 12 year old who watches shows like Brain Games or documentaries like Animation Lookback, I WANT MY BONUS FEATURES.

Great list- I'll have to check all of these releases out! If it weren't just Blu-Rays, then I would have to vouch for the Lilo & Stitch: 2-Disc "Big Wave" edition. The first disc has most of the stuff from the original release with a few little featurettes scattered in there, but the 2nd disc has an entire nearly-2-hour-long documentary providing a detailed and in-depth insight on the film's production, as well as footnotes for the featurette and a bunch of deleted scenes. It's a great release, definitely beats the heck out of the "2-movie collection" Blu-Ray that Disney recently released :/ Also, the exclusion of Beauty's original features from the actual disc is annoying, but in all fairness you do have to keep in mind that disc space is a thing

Yeah, Disney released some great Blu-ray editions of their movies, especially their classic movies. It's a pity they don't put as much effort on their new releases. For example, Frozen, one of the highest grossing movie in their library has a crappy release. Same goes for Cinderella, the Diamond Edition. And that is a real shame, because the movies themselves are masterpieces.

Miss-Jazz-DaFunk In terms of the picture quality of the two films, it's one of the best. But in terms of the bonus features, it's very lacking, especially when compared to the fantasia legacy DVD. They could've went back and remastered all of those features in hd, they could've dug up the Irwin Kostal cut of the movie, they could've talked about fantasia 2006, but they didn't. I'm hoping they fix this with the signature edition release.
