Best of luck getting the job! You inspired me to become an electrician. I am now working on my level 2 hours in Canada and I’m loving every minute of it.

@@LexElectric would you consider working in the States? If you're IBEW, there's arrangements for members to transfer across different towns in US and Canada. Have you considered working in Data (Fiber Optics), This is going to be a very big deal in the next decade or two.

100% you should go back into electrical. I've been a foreman for 8 years and I have had several women apprentices. One in particular you remind me of. Hard worker. Focused. Good with words. Listening comprehension. But this is one thing she could do that I have never met a guy apprentice to do, she set the work culture. She made work a nice place to be. Don't underestimate your powers in the trades girl. Women in the trades are remarkable in the sense that a guy is remarkable in fashion design. You are truly interested in the work. You don't bring in the macho insecurities that guys bring. You can disarm the asshole foreman with your genuine personality. You can rock the minds of men when you get pissed off because its different dealing with a pissed off woman. You bring a hidden talent that your peers may see as a weakness but the truth is that it is your sledge hammer.

Thank you so much for saying this! It's really awesome how you highlight the unique qualities that women can bring to the electrical space. I'm just starting to look into this career path but identify with many of the traits you highlighted in your past apprentice. Your words are super appreciated! 💡

You don't mention it but are you an IBEW union apprentice? I'm surprised you wouldn't mention it as the apprenticeship process is vastly different for both *The* Union and non-union contractors.
@J_Trask Жыл бұрын
This isn’t true. The curriculum for the IEC apprenticeship, AND for IBEW apprenticeship is all made by a mix of union and non-union people. The company I work for is full of guys that are former union that voted out during the recession, and even they say both apprenticeships are very similar. What matters is the education. And let’s be real here. When you turn out, you’re still going to be dumb AF until you get some years of experience without your foreman holding your hand. The being a ‘brother’ doesn’t matter if you’re worthless on the jobsite. Having a j-card or master license doesn’t matter if you’re worthless on the jobsite.
