Full installation of a wallbox pulsar max start to finish!
Complete with N1 CT installation and wiring.
The wallbox pulsar max can monitor your installation to divert solar or any renewable source directly to a vehicle battery.
This is a 7.4kW charge point with PEN fault protection built in. Super simple to install with a feature packed app full of data.
It can be controlled via amazon Alexa or Google home assistant and is OCPP compatible should you wish to use the charge point as a public charger!
Really impressive price point and excellent value for money.
Check out wallbox.com/en_uk/products/pu... for full details
Purchasing option below please note the energy meter and cable bracket are optional extras with most retailers.
Wallbox have a blog post about the regulations and EV charging in the UK which can be found here blog.wallbox.com/en/new-uk-sm...

Hello Mark, thanks foor the video, I just installed A Pulsar plus wit N1 CT just as You. The power meter N1 CT unit lights up red when in use and flashing red when i power it up with 220V . Is that normal? I cannot find any info or documentation about this.

Nice vid. What cable tidy is that. Mine only came with the plug holder and not the extra bit on the top to coil the cable round.

Thank you Mark, very helpful, at 15:55 you mention the Power boost "in the right position". For a single unit setup of the Walbox Max without solar and without any smart features, Am I right that all 3 switches should be in the T (terminating) position?

Happy 2024, our farm is off-grid. Do you think this wall box would work if connected directly to solar panels?

Hi Mark, thanks for video, very informative. Do you have a video reviewing this after using it since the installation? I am interested to know if it’s working ok on diverting your excess energy from your PV?

Hi Mark, as always a great easy to follow video. on a slightly different subject is there anything in the regs about location of consumer units on a stairwell in a domestic dwelling? I'm concerned primeraly with it being a fire escape. Cheers

Their is if its an escape route. Not necessarily against regs but would advise fire resistant aka steel CU and interlinked smoke alarms

What's your thoughts on installing the power meter in the CU, is it against 510.3 ? , I have often wondered the same about a din rail bell transformer (Ring for example)

So long as they don't sit on the busbar themselves and are rated for all voltages present (along with cabling to them) I have no issue with it. Whichever way its done results in the same circumstance somewhere as its not type tested system in any regard.

Great video Mark. I’ve got the earlier Pulsar Plus and have found it to be pretty good over the last few years. Having recently installed Solar, I’m considering installing a compatible power meter to use eco boost. How quickly does the power output ramp up and down when tracking green energy generation? Also, is there a minimum power level before it will turn on? My Pulsar Plus can be set between 6A and 32A which is what I use to consume PV energy at present but it’s a bit of a pain to manage manually. I’d be interested to hear how well eco boost works in practice. Thanks.

@electrician247 11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if eco boost works on prior models just to put that out there lol. Outside of that it switches pretty quickly. I'm using it in the not fully green mode and it hardly touches the grid but I think fills in shirt duration black spots in say cloud coverage etc. The full green mode monitors for instant excess and uses it only. Subject to the minimum charge rate of the vehicle etc. Works a charm I have to say. Very impressed.

@@electrician247 eco boost is available on the Pulsar Plus as well although whether it works exactly the same as on the Max is anyone's guess. I already have a Victron hybrid inverter/charger installed which is set to export to the grid when the batteries are full so I do worry a little that the control mechanisms of the inverter and the Wallbox might fight with each other and get into oscillation if you know what I mean. But for the cost of the energy meter and associated cabling etc, it's probably worth a try. I already have Cat 6 cable installed so I'll see if I can pick up a meter. I already have an ET112 meter installed for the Victron inverter so it'd be nice if it could just use the RS485 output from that but I don't expect that'll be possible. Thanks again.

@craigchamberlain I will be honest that the prior model is beyond my knowledge. But the one I have doesn't draw from the battery bank unless I charge via the over ride button on the app. I believe it works on a 50W export margin to ensure that doesn't happen. Thanks.

Is it a power cable including cat6 data cabling? I’m in France sorry if obvious to you but I never saw a cable mixing high and low voltage in the same. 10mm2 is the law here for ev chargers, so we use 3G10 cables.
@electrician247
@electrician247 10 ай бұрын
It's called EV ultra. Made by Doncaster cables and Elland procell. The data cabling is rated to 300V and primarily is used for the CT monitoring extensions. 4 can use down to 4mm here on 7kw of circuit route/design allows. Generally people use 6mm. That's for single phase anyway. Hope that helps!

Nice video Mark. 2 Questions 1) Should there be some heat shrink around the CT cable when it is in the CU? 2) Looks like that garden gate will hit the hand peice of the tethered cable when you open it. Have you got a door stop or something?
@electrician247
@electrician247 10 ай бұрын
1) no its 300V rated cable. Fine in a CU made for the job. 2) no its outside the swing of the gate by 50mm. Engineered to not do as described. It's my house lol. Don't want anything breaking.

Hi Mark, Do you have to install the data cables or can you simply run it using the earth/live/neutral , im still struggling to understand what the PE and the PE2 connection is and how to correctly identify which one to use in the UK
@electrician247

It will work without the smart features and consumption monitoring yes. I’ve used mine since this video and it’s really good at identifying export to charge vehicles etc. so if you have solar it’s worth figuring out.

Hi Mark, nice video, thanks. I run into the issue where all the wires are correct, but the 'Upgrades' cannot be accessed. They are greyed out. None of the troubleshooting tips work. Do you have advice?
@electrician247
@electrician247 8 ай бұрын
I have encountered this before and it was the comms cables I had wired in the wrong orientation to the bottom of the meter interface. Switching them around solved the problem. So it’s worth double and triple checking. Outside of that it’s always worked fine.

I did not get around the issue yet, sadly. Triple checked all wires and connections. On the app, only at two occasions was the 'MID meter' option displayed in green. I entered the SN and the other field there, and hit 'connect'; technical issue was the message, it did not work on either occasion. Now it's back to color grey. I am stuck. @electrician247 can you advise please?

How does the energy supplier know that you are charging your EV so that it will charge you the EV energy rate? I have a smart meter, how do I know if it's compatible with Octopus intelligent?
@electrician247

They don't know. They offer discounted rates on the agile tariff for example at set tines or fixed times on the EV tariffs for refund rates (not as low as agile) for fixed set times. In terms of the meter you need to ask octopus

20:22 "free charge" - Solar energy is not free. It is costing you the amount you would get from the feed-in tariff. In fact, it is best to sell your solar and charge at night on a low EV tariff.
@electrician247
@electrician247 8 ай бұрын
You say more than you know... As we have battery storage in the house we are on octopus agile. It definitely isn't better to charge overnight... For some on different tariffs perhaps. But as professionals know its all about those unique tariff and usage arrangements. Having the ability to fill a vehicle direct from the sunshine is a massive tool in the box that most consumers would do well to utilise. In my circumstance here even with the feed in payment it is much more cost effective to charge from the sun when it allows. I see it clearly this time of year when it's not an option sadly. Statements like yours would have more weight if you had foresight of everyone's tariff and lifestyle. But you don't.
