I just use the big bandsaw, especially since I am mostly cutting 4 inch ductwork for hvac along with threaded rod and unistrut. Hands down the easiest way to cut 4 inch double wall pipe until they create a real lightsaber! I have the 40v Makita and it is an absolute beast! Having the 44-7/8 blade is also nice because it is a common size.

I have the tiny m12 bandsaw, I love it! Very small and easy/light to pack in and out with my other tools. Straight cut I haven't been able to cut 1 1/2 EMT, but if you cut a ring around it, up to 2" EMT is no problem. Deep strut it will do but only if it's a perfectly straight cut, otherwise better to cut one side at a time, very straight that way too. People always make of of my "Lil Ms. Red", but then always ask to use her in tight spots lol! Can't wait to get that new m12 fuel!

The only battery powered bandsaw I have is the m12. I’m a plumber so I don’t use them as much as an electrician would. Now that we don’t cut and thread black iron the band saw is perfect. I have the corded version of the Milwaukee big bandsaw that I pull out if I’m doing a big gas job. I’m excited to see the bigger m12 because the current m12 mainly gets brought out for strut and ready rod but it’s hard to cut the thicker strut with it. It also looks like it will cover almost any job we do. We rarely go over 2” except with pvc and that easier with a sawzall. And if we are cutting 2 1/2” and up copper or black iron I can easily run a cord.

I’m a 6 month in apprentice and I’ve got both M18 and M12. I have gotta say guys, M12 surprised me. My M12 Impact is… I ask a lot of that thing, and do things that it’s CLEARLY not designed to do (how about drilling 6” deep 7/8” holes), and she still delivers. Still would say start on M18 however, it’s more versatile and your company will likely have spare batteries to toss you if you need some juice. Also when it comes to brands Dewalt isn’t a bad choice either for their 20V stuff, and WAY too many people sleep on Makita’s incredible Build quality and designs. Regardless though, red and black suits me, with Milwaukee’s kick ass RnD and just raw power in their tools.

I have the non fuel M12. Been running it for 5+ years. It’s nice having the small size to one hand cut. It does 90% of what I need. It will even cut deep strut though the last 1/16” is a fight. Never really needed more power. That said I’m still eyeing this new one up cause why not? I have just recently moved into some m18 tools though...

The name for that is actually a “rafter hook” because those originally came on circular saws and tradesmen would use that when framing to hang the saw from rafters and joists.

I almost got the m18 deep cut. Ended up going for a greenlee corded bandsaw. Made in usa and all metal. Still works great, new blade and cord. I plan on doing new brushes and greasing up the gear box in the near future. Down the line (if I'm doing more conduit work) I'm probably going to scoop up a baby m12 band saw. A coworker has one. Theyre nice and compact.

Hvac guy here, haven't watched the video yet but after using all of them over the years, the m18fuel compact is the best by far especially with a high output 3.0..you can cut strut, conduit you name it with no problem and climb ladders with this thing.only complaint is finding blades in stores. My favorite tool I own then the 12v surge... Edit: you need to get a ridgid tripod and cut your material! So much easier, yes not as fast but better cuts

Love my M12 Cordless Portaband. For the big stuff though I still use my trusty Milwaukee 120v Deep Cut with the optional stand that makes it into a chop saw. That is nice a a cut station for chopping strut and allthread. The M12 saw is awesome for anyone who is an installer of any type, residential Electrical or Plumbing or Light Commercial. So much 1” and smaller stuff to cut in those trades.

I found that the m12 bandsaw only really shine in residential jobs my personal experience with the m12 bandsaw and cutting angle iron.......struggle is a nice way of putting it and it seemed to lose it's overall power after about a year I ended up purchasing a new 12 one and same thing happened after a while just felt like the motor wasn't motoring. However I just got that m18 compact and I'm super stoked to use cause the deep cut us perfect for my commercial uses just hate the weight and awkwardness that the deep cut can create in certain situations

Just my opinion, I think the M18 Compact is the only one most guys will need. I have the little M12 too but anything over 1/2", I feel like I'm waiting on the tool. The M18 has never felt heavy to me and will rip through anything you put in front of it clean and easy. I wouldn't personally buy a deep cut band saw because most of the time your Company will have a corded one if you're doing big pipe. Thank you for the thorough video!

For years I always used a saw-saw then about 7 years ago I got the medium size bandsaw and I rarely see my saw-saw anymore best tool for cutting conduit. You should have mention that the one item you can add to all the bandsaws is the pipe reamer it attaches to the drive wheel so you can also ream your conduit for a clean cut. Also you can attach the saw to vertical 2x4 stud and it will stay attached and use it sorta like a table saw Great video 👍👍👍👍👍

Which is more powerful? The 5-inch corded? Or cordless? Don't really understand the need for a HUGE cordless. If you're using one, you're most likely on a big project for a while and you likely have a cutting stand to hold the pipes in place (or something) so just having a cutting station would probably be more economical overall.

I like using my subcompact for emt and caddy brackets, my fuel mid size for rigid and struts, and for anything above 3" I just end up using my hacksaw, the deep cut is just way too heavy for my liking. Cheers. That midsize fuel has a reamer for EMT adapter it works pretty good only downfall is the way Milwaukee designed it to snap on the the bandsaw it tends to fall off a lot.

I have a cordless dewalt deepcut. I've been useing it to to cut 3" pvc when running flu, all-thread, unistrut, gas pipe, etc. I can walk into my local supply house and find dewalt blades on the wall. And I'm still on my first blade. I can lean it against my leg and make one handed cuts with ease.. Bad ass. But I recently picked up a Milwaukee m18 fuel compact for smaller cuts and I can't believe the fiasco with blades. I literally burned up my 1st supplied blade, and had no teeth left after cutting one 1/2 inch black pipe.. Wtf.. I've been on the phone with Milwaukee but I can't seem to get a straight answer on what blades I need for general HVAC and electrical work. It was an EXTREME THIN METAL blade. I found some 48-39 0529 blades at ace a town over, but may just box this up and send it back if it's gonna be this hard. No point in having a bad-ass tool if I can't get quality blades for it. The saw feels sweet in hand tho, so reluctant. Any advice?

so trying to decide, for someone that cuts lots of 2 7/8" tubing and occasionally 1" square tubing, is it better to get the compact or the deep cut?

I got a compact ( non brushless ) and everyone would use the big deep cut to cut 3” emt or rigid and walk back and forth to the tripod . I would just spin the pipe in my hand and cut the pipe and got done twice as fast , I want the brushless so bad .

All my stuff is dewalt so I hate to have both brands but I do like all the Milwaukee stuff also. I might just invest in one of these👍

Have you tried using Diablo's Steel Demon blade? They have one specifically for strut, emt and ferrous metals? It's pretty sweet and can go in either a 6.5 or 7 1/4" blade for circular saw. Depending on size It's 20 to 30-ish dollars. It makes clean and square cuts.

The speed setting isnt all that ridiculous when you are cutting structural steel. Imagine there is 500 lbs on each side of the cut and it binds up. At max speed you are guaranteed to throw the blade out or snap it in half. I never take it below 3 tho.

How well does the m12 fuel cut through thick materials like unistrut?

Thinking about the M12 Fuel but have read a bunch of complaints about it's unique blade size and 3rd part availability. Granted that maybe now dated information as well as tied to it's new release. Do you see issues with finding blades for it???

The mini porta band M12 both gen 1 to gen 2 as well as the deep cut M12 porta band all take the same sized blade if memory serves. And it's a specific size to that kind of tool. 3rd party availability is probably a non issue now.
