I was looking for introductory style electric scooters for Christmas presents for my nieces and nephews who are in their teens and this scooter checks all the boxes. Dual motors for easy hill climbing, light enough for use as a commuter and still fun. Also pretty impressive build quality with higher than normal water resistance. All of this while being easy to learn to ride. Acceleration is quick, but not going to throw you off if you're inexperienced and with a top speed of 20+ mph. Paul, great review. I have owned this scooter for over a year and around 280 miles on it. I have had one flat on the rear tire from a nail. The fact that I could easily change the rear tire without having to heat rubber and use pry bars was a huge plus. Also, it can handle the wet weather with its ip56 rating. Ease of maintenance was key for me, and it ticks those boxes.

The tires on the Climber are going to grip a *lot* better in the wet. I love the Fluid Mosquito for its portability and speed, but have nearly lost it around corners even in the dry, because those tires aren't very wide. -Paul

1:48 Checking Inmotion, their original literature states the climber has dual 450w (nominal) motors with 750 watts peak x 2 for a total peak of 1500w. The most impressive stat however is the 72v 50A sine wave (dual channel) controller! Really impressive for 450w nominal motors.

Their website says: "Dual 750w motors with a peak power of 1500w" to me when someone lists "motor-watts", 750W in this case... the convention is motor-watts is always nominal. So when they say "Dual 750W motors with a peak power of 1500W" I naturally interpret that as Dual 750W nominal = 1500W nominal. And, that the peak power of these nominal motors is 1,500W, and since there are two of them, that would be 3,000W peak (which come to think of it, would be a quicker scooter than this). I feel like the spec for that controller must be an error. It doesn't make sense to put a 72V controller on a 36V scooter. The 50A spec "dual" even if we use the max volts for this batter of roughly 42 volts is 50A x 2 motors x 42 volts = 4,200W If it was somehow *total* current of 50A, then it would still be 2,100W peak total at 42V. The web page also list water resistance as IPX6 and IP56, and I've seen the hill climbing spec listed as 36 degrees but elsewhere as a 36% incline, which are a factor of 2 apart. Great scooter. Messy specs. -Paul

Yes, I see what you mean regarding the wattage specs but like you said, that would make it a 3000W scooter, which would place it into the territory of something like the GX3. With regards to the controller, I think I see what they're doing, 36v 25A (X2) = 72V 50A... haha!!! but hey, the 25A controller on 36V 450W nominal motor is still above spec. I've seen 25A controllers on 48V 750W ebikes. Like you said, messy specs. I have no need for a hill climbing, tractor like this but it would sure be fun as a buddy scooter for cruising around the neighborhood or for letting the niece and nephew ride it. It would be a fun mailbox runner as well.

Hey you finally reviewed it!!! What a great scooter and what an entertaining review. I don't know of any other channel who have hit a hill that steep, never mind 3 times. Tom's Gadget Garage took the Climber on a 1700-1800ft elevation climb up South Mountain in Phoenix which your San Bruno Mountain climb kind of reminded me of. While $1000 scooters with 500-600wh batteries annoy my sensibilities, at $699, the climber definitely gets a pass. I only wish it went 2-3mph quicker but other than that, this is such a cool ride at its price point. Thanks for hauling this scooter all over the Bay Area for us! Lots of work but you got some great shots and love the comparison stats! Keep up the great work, sir! :)

Thank you so much! I thought you would like this one! I haven’t seen the Tom’s Gadget Garage review. I was shocked by how many reviews were already out there for this scooter! It’s usually not the case because we get most electric scooters earlier in their life cycle. The thing that surprised me was I didn’t see any reviews that tried to quantify its hill climbing, but that climb you described sounds like a great test. After the first run up the hill in S.F. I was a little disappointed because it felt like it barely made it, but then it just didn’t slow down at all for the next two passes. I was inspired by folks in the comments section of the VX2 extreme video who asked about motor temperatures and battery level. So it just goes to show how reading the comments makes for better videos. Your feedback has made several of these videos better too in one detail or another. I hope this video can rise to the top of the literally 100 or so reviews, so people get to see it. I changed the title just now because the click through was tanking at the end of the first day. Great review. The Hillclimber was my first scooter, and is a joy to ride. No problems on the long steep hills where I live in southeastern PA, and I’m a heavier rider at 230lbs. I’ve since upgraded to a Nami Klima Max, but my son uses the Hillclimber at college in Bloomsburg, PA, which is an extremely steep hilly town in the Poconos and he has no trouble running errands with it and navigating the long, very steep hills there. At its price point, it’s hard to beat. The turn signals are a new feature as my Hillclimber doesn’t have them. As for tubed tires- 2 years with my Hillclimber and zero flats. Still on the original tubes/tires.

I always recommend the inmotion climber as a 1st scooter. For the price you get a reliable commuter thats actually portable. Many dual motor scooters are too heavy to realistically use if stairs/trains are involved. I was so impressed with the Climber that I bought an RS .

Great review! I tested my climber today on the steepest hill I could find here in New Zealand and twice it shut down and stopped with a "beep, beep" at walking pace only, but could get going again easy enough. When I checked front and rear motor temps they were both around 86 degrees celcius!!!! I am guessing I well and truly stress tested it! The beep, beep I presume was a motor overheat warning. Additionally, I believe there is NO regen on both motors, they are simply and electronic brake - not feeding back into the battery. I cannot fine any material to confirm this unfortunately.

Great review, you were pretty mean to it! The vid arrived just in time for my lunch here in Ohio. For the average person it should be fairly indestructible. I don't mind the tube tires all that much, a few of my old Vespas had tube tires and split rims which were very easy to change. The new tubeless are nice, but harder to change out.

Had my Climber almost 12 months. Love it. Only one hill in my area needs Sport mode, but I think because thee are 3 chicanes on it to stop people coming down, but it make me lose all momentum in D mode. But it does fine in S mode. I ride in D mode with the cruise control on and it does me fine. It is also super nimble and with regent at 100% I have never had an issue with breaking.

I feel like I shouldn’t call it out because I think almost all single motor scooters would fail that test. Or in other words, maybe three or four single motors ever made would make it to the top. So I didn’t want to make it sound like that one was bad. It’s really normal. I did eventually get that single motor scooter to the top, but I had to wait a couple times for it to cool down and there was a lot of kicking to help it out. On the other hand the Climber truly made me feel like I planned the challenge wrong because the Climber just shrugged off the whole thing like it was barely a hill at all. -Paul

I watched that one. I called Andrew after watching it. The reason the ZT3 failed was because they misinterpreted the spec. The ZT3 Pro will do its official hill climbing spec. But when they read the spec they mistook % grade for degrees! If you look in the comments on that one they credited me for helping them sort that out. :-) Not calling them out for getting stuff wrong though, it's really hard to get absolutely everything right in a video, and good on them for pointing it out in their comments section right away. -Paul

I'm over 200lbs and own a Renegade for 3 months. The top speed is electronically limited. However, the scooter climbs any hill. In dual mode it transformed into torque power house. One of the quickest accelerating scooter. It will climb the steepest hill.

Thanks for a great review! I've been interested in this scooter for some time now. However, here in the EU the prices are a bit different… The Climber costs around € 900 and has no blinkers, a Max G2 is around € 800 and the ZT3 has a pre-order price of € 770. But the ZT3 is heavy, and both the Segways are limited to 25 km/h whereas the Climber can reach 35 km/h. First world problems…

Great question! We've been trying and trying to get a Teverun Fighter Supreme, (or really any Teverun performance scooter) for testing, and have come close a couple times but for some reason the Teverun scooters aren't being carried by the same folks who are carrying Dualtrons. Just today I was talking with another source who may be able to get one for us. I really don't understand why distribution of these has been so scarce. -Paul

I'm curious why Segway Ninebot didn't keep experimenting with the PU-foam filled tires they used on the E22. That scooter used regular tires on the outside, but had a foam inner layer that felt 80% as good as air filled tires, but were 100% flat-proof. -Paul

For 650w version in mode 3 aka climbing mode I can reach uncapped top speed around 46 kmh against strong wind in relatively uphill conditions whereas in mode 2 aka comfort mode at exact same conditions power is capped and can only reach 30-35 kmhtop speed, both modes reach 46 kmh at beachside no upwind, fyi

Was that 46kmh speed measured with GPS? The speedos are usually wrong on scooters. We use a Vbox Sport data logger for all of our performance measurements. If I said 420W then I must have looked in the wrong part of the owner's manual when I got that spec. 420W is the regular Togo. The scooter we tested is the Togo Plus which is 650W. The "plus" is written in red on the foot-rest of the scooter. -Paul

I feel like it's prolonged hill use that kills this scooter I had mine for less then 3 months riding every second day on numerous medium level hills in Australian winter and the front motor burned out and then turns out we have no electric scooter techs in Melbourne Australia and now scooter hut has had my scooter for longer then I have since I bought it trying to find someone to fix it under warranty 😅

Unfortunately, I haven't tested how it does in water. For now, the best thing is to see if someone out there has been commuting in the wet. I trust Inmotion and their IP rating, so I think you'll do fine if you stay out of water that's 1" deep or deeper and give it a chance to dry off fully between rides. But! and this is important. If you do a ride in very very hard rain, it would be worth fully drying the outside, and then opening up the deck to inspect whether any water got inside. Also inspect closely anywhere the cables enter the scooter, because that's one of the most vulnerable spots and water will follow the cables to their lowest point and then fall off. -Paul

Interesting. I love the Boosted Rev (we have one), but I never thought of them as being similar. Looking at the specs you're right, they have a lot in common. The biggest difference is the Rev is quicker from 0 to 15 mph 2.7s vs 3.5 sec. And the Climber gets waaaaaay more range. 21.4 miles to the Rev's 10.3 Thanks for watching and for calling this one out. We've tested a couple of them The Anyhill UM-2 climbs the standard ESG 10% test hill in 18.2 seconds and the UM-1 climbs it in 20.4 compared to the Inmotion climber's 11.2 seconds. For sure the UM-1 ansd UM-2 won't climb the "Steepest Hill" but they're still pretty good at hill climbing. :-) -Paul

I think the climber's nominal power is 450W*2 and max power 750*2 based on Inmotion's spec sheet on their site. It's confusing how nominal and max power are stated, but I think it makes more sense based on performance that it would be 450W not 750W nominal. That would be a serious waste of resources IMO. 🙂

Their website says: “Dual 750w motors with a peak power of 1500w” Typically when a company specs “motor” power it’s nominal. So when they say “dual 750W motors”, I interpret that as 1500W nominal. But you could be right. They had also listed the Climber as being able to climb 36 degrees at one point, and it absolutely can’t. But can do 36% with a light rider. They’ve since corrected this on their site. -Paul
