I am relatively poor so when I decided that I needed solar power to help out with expenses I decided to build my own system and would have to buy used equipment where possible and buy new, cheap batteries after buying some used batteries that were useless. My system works, but not perfectly. I have 5 each 5.1kwh batteries and will eventually buy 3 more. I have 26 used solar panels that produce maybe half the power they should, but i still can't afford new panels. During the summer I save $60 to $80 on my electric bill. During cloudy/rainy/snowy days I don't save any money at all. However, I have battery power for when my village suffers grid power loss. My village loses power about six times per year. Some times we lose power for nine days. My little system won't last for nine days...maybe 1.5 days and then i have to start a generator to both run my place and charge batteries for another 3 days. That is why I need more batteries and new panels. Eventually I hope to buy an EV van for my tiny business and will be able to write part of the cost off my income taxes. I will be able to partially charge the van using my solar system; grid power to top it off. I normally only need to use the van every other day, so charging partially won't be a problem. "solving" stated at the end of your video my opinion just about perfectly. He is a crass but really smart guy.

Whenever I feel a bit down (which is rarely mainly because of SMR) I watch another of his insightful videos and am reminded why I am heavily invested in Tesla. Sam gives a great insight into new technology and opinions on what may be a better 'bang for the buck' than any Tesla product (Now You Know channel provided a cheaper, better solution for a "power wall", but the auto-bidder software is missing) and Sam may place a Chinese auto at a cheaper price above a Tesla, but over-the-air software? Charging issues? Safety? Warranty? These still remind me that Tesla still has an edge that cannot be ignored. I am so very grateful to be able to observe BOTH Sam and Steven on a daily basis. I too have begun to listen to "Tesla/EV/Elon haters" to decide for myself what I feel is important or 'real' and am grateful I can rely on channels such as Solving The Money Problem and The Electric Viking to gather information that leads me to substantiate their claims or fact check. You guys ROCK!

Buy and forget, stop looking at daily value or you’ll go insane. When will it pop? Depends on market valuing; FSD Robotaxi, Energy, Optimus, Dojo, Etc Any and all of these or any number of other potential ’start-up’ products yet to come, could make the share price go pop. If you can afford it, just hang on for the ride long term. It’s still probably going to be a volatile stock, so unless you want to go celebrating with champagne the one day, only to pull your hair out in despair the following - buy and forget.

Seems Sandy loves any great engineering marvel, whether ICE or EV, but he sees that EV is the future happening now. Although he can’t hide his Tesla bias very well, he does recognize other OEMs that innovate and get concepts to scale. He’s been warning of the China threat and only tariffs can stave off or minimize their global domination and save US manufacturing, at least until robotics take over completely, but that may take decades to realistically convert under current regulatory constraints. Mindblowing to even prognosticate. Regardless, SMR is spot on and the suggestion of adding Sandy to this kind of discussion would be something to listen to. Adding an unrestrained Elon to the discussion would be the only way to top that, IMO. Ms views for sure.

Like to see you both outside your standard format. Thanks for the great program. To me, the 4680 is about keeping suppliers in check. If you can make kw×hr/kg for x and your supplier cannot compete with that price, than there is no sale. Tesla needs lots of batteries, maybe you can make a few dollars per cell, even if at a higher price, but a supplier cannot bend tesla over. And without batteries, tesla cannot do much at the moment- even if the 4680 is a hedge, money well spent.

It also generates a $45/kwh handout, at least in the short term.

Thanks Sam. Excellent wide ranging interview with SMR. Clever bastard, gives such clearly reasoned analysis. With my peanut-sized brain am unlikely to add value to SMR's points, but maybe the following observation is useful ... On Tesla's existential threats & their competition ... Tesla's culture is possibly their ultimate moat. Tesla has a far higher change velocity than its competitors. Tesla's culture seems to create a well structured grouping of self directed teams (source: Farzad, Rohan Patel, etc), that work at a far faster self-correcting pace, which is being continually repointed towards solving the most important things, at the right time. It's an Agile + Lean approach previously only seen in IT. However, within Tesla it's applied across ALL teams. And in the end, in Business, productive customer focused change velocity wins. (Not, ever, financial advice)

@roger_is_red. Sad to see the US and Canada committing to supply high speed internet to rual communities while ignoring a simple, cheap solution if only in the short term. Yes-I believe competition and redundancy is paramount, however the interm should be considered. Providing people with Starlink outright is a fraction of laying cables. Perhaps a partial subsidy for the immediate provision while going ahead with the long-term goal is a better plan. However- Humans are involved therefore lining their pockets with what THEY deem to be a solution over something that already exist. I watch a channel 'The Yacht Report' and it appears Jeff Bezos yacht does NOT appear to have Starlink whereas all others do. A coinkadink? Just goes to show you the human equation.
