In Germany, I believe it is a combination of bad strategy (EVs in particular), high prices and simply arrogance. I tried twice to buy an Audi in Germany, at two different dealers. When my wife and I entered the premises, we wore normal clothes (jeans, shirt, leather shoes, shaved, kempt hair). None of the sales people in the show room would approach us. Instead, they retired to a windowed office to smoke, in broad view of all the waiting customers. At one dealer, a sales person finally approached us after half an hour. He looked us up and down (especially my wife) and asked in a rather arrogant tone if we liked the car we were looking at (it was an A6) and if we could afford it. I make enough money to lease a Lucid... Needless to say, we answered that we were not sure and left. Never again!

Moving to EV, that has gone. The Koreans and Chinese have learnt how to make quality cars and they are designed being an EV, giving all the benefits you can get. In 2009 I bought a VW Sharan for EUR 26,000 (I like a lot of space). 8 years later the new model had only half as much space but was twice as expensive. And after having had bad experiences with the quality at VW, I decided not to buy a VW at all. I then drove a Renault ZOE for a long time, which I also simply thought was cooler than any VW, and simply rented a large car when I needed it. The German car industry has not brought any innovations to the market for a long time and the quality is getting worse every year. The TSi engines are a complete misconstruction. Permanent oil underpressure and rubber drive belts in the engine block contribute to the likelihood of engine failure at some point. Today I no longer have my own car and only rent one when I need one. Either from Europcar or with car sharing services. This means that I drive a variety of car brands. With the German car brands, I always get annoyed by the non-intuitive cockpit design with the 1,000 buttons. I mean it's the year of the Lord 2024! Where has the user-friendliness gone? Why do I have to spend 10 minutes to find the button to turn off this error-prone German lane assist?? To be honest, I think every car brand outside of Germany is simply better.

@@daweigo6851 Only 92%? Just a few years ago it was 100%. Wonder what the percentage will be in 5 years. 60%? 70%? Why buy a new car when you can just take a Tesla Cab and save thousands of dollars a year? 2020 Tesla is a Noun. 2030 Tesla is a Verb. This is important.

@@davidbeppler3032 because owning a vehicle is freedom. Financially it would make sense for me to sell my vehicle and just take a Tesla cab or Uber everywhere. I'll never do that though. I want the freedom to go where I want when I want.

9:10 I don't concur that 30 models are 'too many choices', or that it's a bad thing per se. With half an hour investment, a buyer might filter the exact model that could fit its use case on the company's website for instance. Of course, that is besides this whole conundrum of market share loss and lack of meaningful choices altogether.

in Europe, german cars will be offering in 2030 car models of 2025...it is economy of scale as they will not be able to refresh their cars due to cost...without international markets (being taken by the Chinese and Tesla) they are finished... unless they fully automate but then who will buy them at home if unemployment is through the roofs!!!

15 new models just dilutes the scale when they buy parts, it does wonders to their cost structures. Its insanity. Make one well speced model at the right price......insanity, pure insanity

Rum and Raisin Sam. I bought a T-roc when they first came to Australia. I love everything about the car except for the infotainment system. I hate it so much, i wont buy another. The other car that i was looking at then was the Audi q3. I found out since that it has similar issues. Honestly, you cannot ring anyone while driving. The echo is that bad on their end, you have to pull over and disable Bluetooth. I notified them of this on the very first service and they simply didnt believe me. Oh and one more thing, service costs. Its last service was just over $2000. It was $600 just for the 5 litres of gearbox oil.

Technology advances and the old model of building a car from the powertrain out was a great differentiator. Luxury brands had margin to develop more powerful and advanced engines derived from racing. Now that EVs differentiate with efficiency and power ratings that are already past day to day use, the motor doesn’t matter. All are smooth and plenty of instant torque. Price and build quality matter. The Chinese can build a decent car now for way less. I wrote to BMW years ago to say that my 3 series would be the last since the manual transmission would no longer be offered on their modest models. Only the M3 would retain it. I wrote that going to an automatic means I can shop any other brand. Most luxury cars handle well at legal speeds. When the time came to buy a new car, I did shop elsewhere (after three BMWs) and I skipped another ICE and just went to a one gear EV instead. Turns out regenerative braking was actually better than gear braking for control of the car. I really think that as all propulsion jumps to electric, all we have left is build materials, suspension and steering feel. I am still an old school driver. I want control, steering and handling. Rarely do I seek power. Audi luxury is on par with most good brands. I won’t pay that much more for it. FYI I kept my old BMW, have a manual sports car and an EV as a daily. I don’t think I could go back to ICE anymore. I will keep my old school cars until they break. I just want a comfortable modestly powered EV going forward. Audi premium isn’t worth it. I value the substance of a car more than the brand.

With regards to Bentley, operating costs down from 5 billion to 2.85 billion, & sales down by 10%: if this trend continues, would this affect the residual value of a used Bentley????

What residual value are you talking about? These cars are worth pennies with time, they were never meant to keep value.

In 2024, Germany's electric vehicle (EV) market has seen significant shifts among leading automakers. Volkswagen and BMW have surpassed Tesla in EV registrations, according to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) Volkswagen registered approximately 49,200 fully electric vehicles, while BMW recorded 33,167 units. In contrast, Tesla's registrations declined to 31,461 vehicles over the same period.

the whole dealership model is finished. across many industries, manufacturers are going direct to consumer. any middle men are done & have limited future. Audi need to go direct, build cars people want and build them more efficiently (eg Tesla). the entire company needs a drastic overhaul on how it does business. well done China for building sensible affordable cars. keep them coming.

A bit too alarmist. A quick observation/comment (!) Lamborghini delivered 18.7% more cars for the quarter and the turnover will reflect this. The company is not offering any discounts and new series are fully booked/sold out for several years. The fact that the Operating profit is down should indicate production changes. Note that the company has changed the product line from its Aventador series to the Revuelto. At the same time they are ending the Huracan series with the last ones coming out as we speak and prepare the replacement with their new Temerario series. Needless to say, there will be severe costs associating with such change in a shorter time perspective. 😆

VW has been around for 75 years; most Chinese makers under 4 years every minute of which they've lost money. While on paper BYD SAIC and a couple others are in the black that is with 1/3 trillion in give aways from the Chinese government. Even with that crutch those few average only $500 per car. Are Chinese cars a bargin if the self destruct in a couple years due to poor quaity parts or fire? Are they a bargin if the company orphans you going out of business? What is your warranty worth then? Nothing. You are leading a lot of good folks to buy crap. Why don't you change to being an honest evaluator of vehicles including hybids? You'd get more hits
