READ THE REVIEW: www.electrifyi...
By now, most of us have either read, seen or heard all about the all-new Dacia Spring. When it lands in showrooms later this year, it’s going to be the most affordable new electric car on the market. Not by a few hundred pounds, either. This is going to be THOUSANDS of pounds cheaper than ANY other new electric car you can buy.
At Electrifying, we don’t just like the sound of our own voices. We like to know what you think. And since we started producing our video reviews, we’ve had thousands of comments on our channel. Some interesting, some helpful, some downright rude.
But the comments section can only tell us so much.
Which is why in this video we’re bringing you a real-life, live and kicking KZbin comments section. Join Nicola as she invites Nichola, Sara, Alison and Richard to have a look around the new Dacia Spring - months before it arrives in retailers.
How do they rate the Spring? Has the cost-cutting gone too far in some places, or has Dacia pulled off a masterstroke and created a brilliant package? Will the range of just 137 miles be a deal-breaker for our reviewers, or has Dacia got its sums right?
Do you agree with our reviewers? Let us know in the comments below.
If you want to be one of our review team, let us know at info@electrifying.com. We’ll be planning more shoots like this in the near future and we’d love to have you along.

I have a Spring, bought it last June. I live in the heart of the French countryside with winding lanes and lots of hills. I drive into the towns, to the airport, shop etc. I absolutely love it. The range is just under 300 km in the Summer and I am getting 225 km out of it in our Winters. I love it. Defrost while I'm in the house, top it up at home. Fun to drive and behaves like a small SUV which is handy on some of our roads. No complaints at all.

The WLTP is 230km. No way you get 300km out of it, sorry. WLTP is about the most optimistic range a manufacturer can quote.

Belive it or not, Dacia Spring is the only EV which can do more then VLTP. On a longer journey I can allways can go around 300 km with a consumption between 7-8 kwh/100 km. It is a very light car. Has only 970 kg.

@@alapar73 that's an admirable efficiency, but enough video's show much worse range for this car, unless you drive at low speeds (like 60kmh) with very little stopping. WLTP is measured at 80kmh. I mean, every EV gets further than WLTP if you drive slower. But people want to know the range for speeds higher than that.

Did they inform you you were sitting in a Dongfeng with Dacia logo, and the technology is still the same as in 2015? You know there's no 3 fase charging? As a result it can only be used as a second car. And not in the city because you need time and space on you driveway to charge it.... You also need 1 to 2 miles to pass a semi truck. If you ever succeed in passing. So weird not one negative point was mentionned. And you guys really weren't paid to act all this?

@@thedreamfactory6964 given they all already own EV's, they'll already have a way to charge them and won't be concerned about that. That was what I liked. We were very different people, with very different needs and expectations of our cars, but all very much enjoy our EVs as they do what we want of them. I found it fascinating that the others highlighted quite different aspects to me and really enjoyed listening to what they had to say. Off-camera it was the same - no-one made up stuff just for the camera and the editing reflected what we said over sandwiches at lunchtime too. Lovely people!

This car is intended as a commuter city car, and nothing else. If you buy it for that reason, then you're unlikely to be disappointed. The EV market needs cars like this now. We've had all the high end £40k plus cars. The EV market now needs to cater for potential EV buyers at the opposite end of the market.... The new Renault R5 and Citroen e C3will cater for those who are willing to spend a few grand more, and want more style.....

Nice item, and good info by the people. This should be done more often. Invite a group of 4 to "feel" the car and let them tell what they think of it. The Dacia EV will have some competition in 2024 and 2025, with the new 200km range Citroën ë-C3 for €20k. And possibly with the Hyundai Casper? But both are indeed €5k more expansive. At €15k this Dacia is blowing the competition out of the water.

I love that they added the V2L functionality. We need two cars but if the weather is good everybody is going to work and school by bike. So at least one car is most of the time at home. The Spring could there be used as an additional home battery. As a beekeeper it would also be very useful to have access to electricity no matter there the hive is located.

I have pre ordered a Spring but I am lucky as I have a drive and will only use it around town. But I know I can get back and charge it up without any worry. I already have a Dacia Jogger Hybrid so I used to the snide and car snobs make about the brand. But when you can walk into a showroom and be pay for one on a debit card, that's the difference. If you can save up and buy "cash" that's the best way.

Was in for a look at the polestar4 and couldn’t because and I quote “ the car has had a few problems and has forgotten how to do showroom mode so people could start it and drive off . I just said this doesn’t really show Polestar in a good light and it’s a £64k Car. European car companies have dropped the ball and now foreign Car companies are giving people enough of what they want for a great price. It’s hard today to make a bad car it’s not like it’s the 1980’s when cars in the U.K. factories broke down two minutes leaving the production line and rusted and electrical faults. A friend bought a brand new XR3i Ford. It had a leaking sunroof from day one, a damp boot, disco lights in that the lights had a wire fault so when you pressed the brake peddle it was like a Disco light show at the back. After a year the same Car that was blazing orange (I think) was starting to fade I places and the rear spoiler was coming off. 😳😂And at the time this was acceptable. I hold my hand up I’ve said I’m not going EV till real world is easy 300 miles and a car sensibly priced. If that new MINI out was in S form was 300 real world it would probably getting ordered if it was not £38-42k 😮 But this for a city Car at that price, MINI last generation wanted £28k for a city Car.

Those wheels look small and narrow. How will that impact handling and breaking? Snow and ice? Obviously been tested under these conditions but wonder if stopping distances slighter longer.
@richardgledhill
@richardgledhill 4 ай бұрын
The car is very light, much like an 80s/90s Fiat Panda, so I suspect it'll be very nimble like that car was. In snow, you want a narrow-tyred car anywhere to cut through the snow. In ice, it doesn't matter what tyre you have as no grip is no grip. I suspect the stopping distance will be average - light car but small tyres.

@@richardgledhill I guess with city driving as it's main function means slower speeds and less snow and ice so no problem.

I think it's great, I'll probably buy a used one in a couple of years. I'm a bit disappointed with the 45mins 20 -80 % charge time on a rapid charger, my 12yr old I-MiEV does it in around 20mins, but that's not really a deal breaker, I rarely ( I've only done it once) charge away from home.
@davidspencer7254

Thing is though the imiev charges quick but the range is very very small that it can add. Plus its chademo although if you get the adapter you can use chademo and CCS...
@ziggarillo
@ziggarillo 4 ай бұрын
I get 60 miles out of a promised 70 on each charge, there's no shortage of Chademo chargers. I can also use a type 2 slow charger in a pinch. But I've never needed to, I always charge at home using very cheap Octopus plunge price rates.
@davidspencer7254
@davidspencer7254 4 ай бұрын
@@ziggarillo the fact you get 60 miles out of an imiev is amazing, most people get 45-50. If the aussie battery upgrade was available I'd pick one up like a shot, and the Chademo -> CSS adapter for when the Chademo chargers disappear altogether.
@ziggarillo

@@davidspencer7254 My battery holds about 90% of its original 14.5 kwh of usable power. It has hardly seen any rapid charging in its 12yrs on the road. Any example that has been charged regularly on a chademo charger will probably have deteriorated more. I think because I drive more economically towards the end of my range, it keeps promising me 70 miles of range after the next charge, one day I hope to achieve that.

This should not be more than 10.000 Euro. They should get rid of the SUV/miniSUV design next time if they want to make an affordable EV. The SUV design means much less range. It is cheaper but just relatively to another EV-s. Still has bad price/value ratio similar to any EV.
@MrAdopado
@MrAdopado 3 ай бұрын
Though I agree that we need to get away from SUV designs except where actually necessary I don't think this is necessarily a bad choice for this vehicle. As a small relatively lightweight city car the shape will have negligible impact on range.

Isn’t the weak point the lack of a liquid cooling system for the batteries ?
@thedreamfactory6964
@thedreamfactory6964 4 ай бұрын
No, not at all. Cooling is only needed if there's warmth/heat generated. As this is the indutries lamest system on the market (charging with only a couple kW and just enough power to move it up to the end of the street in under 5 minutes) there's absolutely not to be worried about that. If your system doesn't heat up, why cool it? It could start freezing when cooling this little battery 😂.

Its good having people come and walk around a new car, sit in it and twiddle a few knobs for first impressions, how about them test driving it on a test track for their evaluation on handling and comfort etc . Whilst most people wont want a pocket rocket for nipping to the shops etc i think the acceleration is a bit sedentary at 14 seconds but having said that around £15,000 by todays standards isn't a bad price especiallyfor an ev.

The interesting thing is that the Renault Zoe isn't much faster. It has a lot more power, but is nearly twice the weight, and that feels plenty nippy enough. I suspect the Spring will be just fine up to 40mph which covers all city driving.

I live in Romania and one of my friends has a Dacia Spring. I've been in it once with THREE adults in the back seat! When he first got it the price was just under 10k Euros including VAT. He uses it for a short commute to work and as well as charging at home, he can if necessary charge it at work so it suits his needs perfectly. I like the way Dacia have styled it to fit the corporate look of their ICE and hybrid cars and not given it a slab front like the Polestar, the Ioniq and many others.

Plenty of 1 year old EV commuter cars for this price. All of which are much better. If you are desperate for the cheapest new EV on the market then go for it. Personally I'd either stretch my budget a bit further for an E corsa or elctric 208 or go for a year old one.
