Hello Mam, how does the PAINT helps in fighting corrosion of metal? >Is it acting as a barrier between the metal and the moisture in the environment. >If PAINTING avoids the formation of corrosion, then why using ANODES to avoid corrosion. > Is it to the fact that once the paint is scratched from metal, corrosion occurs and rust begins to form.
@RevathiPurushothaman5 жыл бұрын
Paint acts as an organic protective coating, which is one of the methods to prevent corrosion and it acts as a barrier. If there is scratch, which is very common it may lead to pitting corrosion, especially if the metal is a highly active metal(anodic). Anodic coating is another method in which the coating undergoes corrosion preventing the underneath metal.

Mam ur topic name is differential aeration corrosion but ur explaing about pitting corrosion?????????
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
This is special case of differential aeration corrosion. When the anodic area is much smaller than the cathodic area, pitting corrosion occurs. That is why I have given many cases of differential aeration corrosion in the assignment.

At this point I would like to tell an important information art this is point. This first video was a part of my assignment in a FDP program, where I had restrictions to uploadie a video with only 5-7 minutes. Hence, I could not explain all the examples. After five years only I started to upload series of videos looking at the responses of the audience.

Why poor location consider anode And rich consider cathode?
@RevathiPurushothaman4 жыл бұрын
We are not considering poorly oxygenated area as anode, it acts as the anode because the metal at that portion will get oxidised and undergoes corrosion.
Your equation is unbalanced Please balance it H2O + ½O2 +2e- -----> 2OH- BALANCE EQUATION
@RevathiPurushothaman6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I will update. It was by mistake. 1/2 was put for H2O instead of O2. I have uploaded two more videos. You may watch. Bye.

So after first part of rust create on metal surface ...this part of rust has poorly O2.. therefore will be worked as anodic write?
@RevathiPurushothaman2 жыл бұрын
It need not be a rust only, it can be a dust or water droplet etc.

@@RevathiPurushothaman inside crevice from which stand water creates corrosion.and afterwards this oxidized layer avoid O2 to achieve metal Fe surface..so after oxidized layer inside crevice works as anodic? Many thanks 🙏
