I love videos like this. Easy to follow, understandable from any amateur enthusiast's point of view. Great production journey and fabulous conclusion. One of the all time best feelings in the world is felt after the successful completion of a home-grown project and you guide your viewers through the process and make us feel a sense of euphoria when the project is completed. Good job sir!

I'm just learning a lot of electronics and also work as a mechanic. I built my own oscilliscope and next I'll be building my own fuel injector tester! I also made my own smoke machine! I like making my own tools

What perfect timing. I am in the middle of doing a head gasket on my nissan sentra currently waiting for the head to come back from the machine shop and I would like to clean my injectors by running some cleaner thru them with a syringe and this little mod box. I went thru my parts bins and I have everything to build this. I will use a different mosfet 200v 9a and a 1n4001 bc thats all I have. I will get this assembled tomorrow :) I also might 3d print the case if I feel up to it.

Thank you for this project. I found the files, watched the video and created the circuit on a breadboard. for the longest time (about 3 hours) I couldn't get the Astable side of the circuit working (and still can't using the resistor/capacitor values you have listed. I had to swap the resistors around in order to get the circuit working then I played around with frequencies a bit. I made a spreadsheet to calculate on time, off time, and duty cycle using R5, R6, and C7 as variables. I ended up changing R5=390 Ohms. I'm going to try to modify this circuit to drive 6-8 fuel injectors so that I can set up a cleaning/testing station (with the injectors mounted in a rail above 6-8 graduated cylinders), and this DIY project was the right price. By the way, with R5 at 390 Ohms, the circuit (theoretically) runs at 48.82 Hz which equates to 5859 RPMs (48.82*60sec/min*2rev/injection). Pretty darn cool. (thanks for the tip {hack})

I thought I had to go with an Arduino and program it. But seeing your version, mine would be over-engineered. Thanks for this nice version, I underestimate the 555 because I'm way to young lol

Yes it does. It's a 1n4742. Go to the project page and check the schematic.

Great project, I had to change R5 100 ohm resistor to 1k to get the astable side of the circuit to work.

Hi Dean Hope all is well in NC Lived in Cary, but had to leave because my job, really miss it. Planning on retiring back there. Quick question what voltage for the capacitors? I watch this video years ago but didn't need the tester till now.

As long as the are more than 12 V you''re good to go. I think mine were 50 V.

do you think it would work for running the coils to get a kv reading to compare with the other coils or just to see if you have one weak or one that cuts out when hot what do you think thanks mark

I wonder if a 1980's distributorless ignition would work when added to a newer car so that the injectors pulsed when needed. So I would keep the newer computer in the car but add the older computer so it would pulse injectors bypassing the security system since most newer cars security systems shut injectors down causing no start. See I believe these newer cars can be hacked easily and I am a mechanic but it is very hard to bypass this newer stuff.

I like this video. The overall build and inspration of the video is Good. And off duty Mech. doing extra credit work. I've been there and off duty time is hard to get. Most Mech's do nothing later on to advance themselves, So wit that said .... Well Done. I had to build my own O-scope.

I have 2 questions: (1) at 08:29 in the top left corner of your circuit is that a diode or a resistor? (2) can you briefly explain how the mosfet addresses the current draw problem?

Hey Dino. Years after I saw it, I have time to build it but I have a few questions: In the partslist of the tester, you write mF for the capacitators, but in the sematics they are uF. Am I right that uF is µF? I'm really confused and it is late in germany :) Also do I really need a Tantalum cap or can I use any cap?

Quick questions... If I were to put a switch in parallel to the push button, would it work to run the circuit for however long I wanted without having to hold it down? Also, is there a way to add times? right now, you have 1 sec, 5, sec, and through the switch on the right, continuous. how could I make a board that also offers, say, 1 minute? Thanks! Seb. PS: did you ever do kits?

It would be nice if you can design Speed Motor and a small version what an PCM crankshaft cam sensor which OBU magnetic signal crown how are you can speed up a little more at 1,000 to 3 or 4000 RPMs I need you to see how the injectors works on a hundred different torch let's get together dude we can build something really nice to avoid all the hustle people goes through
