4:43 Interestingly enough, different companies had different philosophies on the subject of difficulty. With Capcom, and even Nintendo as seen with SMB2, they felt American gamers were more fun-loving, whereas Konami felt we were more Hardcore challenge hungry, doing things like taking out the Practice setting in the original Castlevania.

I can honestly say that I enjoy your videos. I have just started watching after seeing your pacmania videos on TGWTG and enjoyed it but when I saw your Shovel Knight Review I was hooked. I watch a lot of reviewers, most that are from TGWTG or used to be and after a ton of reviews of people talking about movies or games they hate I am glad there are reviewers like you. Don't get me wrong I still like their reviews but after seeing your retrospective on Mega Man I can honestly say that I'm a fan of yours now. Thank you for your videos as well as helping me want to check out games that I've never played before. A new loyal fan -Tyler

I'm with you on MM3 being a personal favorite. (Can't wait for a retrospective). Even if I played MM2 first, there were so much things in its sequel that were polished. The way MM controls, the support items, the music(IMO) not to mention the more forgiving difficulty. Plus, the addition of Rush and "Breakman" only added character to the game.

While I can't say the game was THAT hard for me (But I can't deny that it is challenging), I will agree that it does have its annoying/unfair moments. The Boobeam boss is a perfect example of that. But I really enjoy the hell out of this game. Its a fun adventure with good looking levels, an awesome soundtrack and nice weapons of choice. Its not my favorite in the classic series either but its a very solid game indeed! Well made retrospective AWD!

Mega Man 2 was the first Mega Man I played and completed, which I borrowed off a friend decades ago... But still, Mega Man 4 is my favourite and I don't care what no one says! Much like Castlevania III, I thought the balance of difficulty was best in MM4. It was still hard, but not ridiculously so, so as a kid I could still have fun with it without getting frustrated. Also, Dr. Wiley is really a robot created by Dr. Light to test Mega Man's powers before Dr. Light turns Mega Man's free will off and uses him to take over the world. YOU'LL SEE!

Wait you found Megaman 2 harder than Megaman 1? ... You didnt fight Yellow Devil did you? You used the pause trick didnt you? The Boobeam Trap boss may be hard and stupid- but Yellow Devil... I cant even... that was the first time my fingers physically hurt while playing a game.
@brianriff855010 жыл бұрын
Well...with Yellow Devil, he was actually a boss and not a room puzzle. Sure, Devil is damn frustrating (it took me a week to finally kill him, and that's not even the end of it), but you could still shoot him with the Mega Buster if you ran out of Elec Man's attack. With Boobeam, you have no choice but to die if you lose all your Crash Bombs.

Wow. I never thought I'd find someone with the same opinions as mine when it came to MM2 vs MM3. I find it really surprising that- with the exception of the slide, no one mention's how "slippery" Megaman was in the first two games. In 3 he is SOLID. Boobeam trap. Yeah, enough said. Also, something that not a whole lot of people comment on, is the fact that MM3 had a "unique" victory theme- most games in the series recycled stuff from 2. I'm not saying I HATE MM2, I just like the third installment more. HATE COMMENCE!
@Mr3DLC11 жыл бұрын
I actually played mm2 on the ps2 collection, and apparently, the game was ported without the option for difficulty but still set to difficult. that game was hard!! still, I managed to scrape by and finish it. still, I didn't get that you could use the blades for everything, so I still feel like a noob.

LOL a game every couple of MONTHS?? I'd have been ECSTATIC to have gotten a deal like that as a kid... the only two occasions in a given YEAR's time that I could even begin to hope to get new videogames were my birthday and Christmas, which are within a month of each other. On the one hand it was cool because I could conceivably obtain new games back to back - but on the other hand, whatever I got was what I had for the rest of that year, aside from rentals, which I'd get if I got an A or B on a test or something (I rarely was able to finish a game in the 3 rental days though...)

Honestly, Mega Man 2 is arguably the easiest game in the entire classic Mega Man series, even when you play on "Difficult" mode. 1 is more difficult mostly because of somewhat poor, sometimes even "cheap" level design (Ice Man's stage in particular). In 3 and 4 the bosses are on average more difficult than the ones in 2 (because let's face it, all the bosses in 2 are pushovers except for Quick Man and the Buebeam Trap). In 5 the special weapons border on useless, leaving you stuck using the buster most of the time. 6 is fairly easy though, but the level design is a bit more complex in 6 than in 2, giving a bit more challenge in my opinion. You want to play a hard Mega Man game? Try Mega Man & Bass. That game is brutal, and at certain points it just gets downright stupid with how hard at is. It'll take ages for you to get past King Stage 2. Mega Man 9 is also decently hard, probably harder than most of the other classic series games, but it's a refreshing level of difficulty and I rarely found it frustrating. Hornet Man's stage gave me a good deal of trouble though, especially the mid boss. MM&B is definitely frustrating though. Prepare to tear some hair out if you tackle that game.

never have i heard someone whine (no offence~ assuming you're acting as such on purpose) how hard megaman 2 was, yes it had its hard points but by no means did it ever bring me to rage quit the game, even as a kid it only took me maybe 3 trys max to beat the boobeam boss, frustrating yes to sit there and die but you made it seem it was the hardest thing ever. Megaman 2 is my goto game i play and on "Difficult" with just M-buster, only using weapons when the games makes me. altho i too just say fuck it to the puzzle jumping in heat mans stage cause eh im here to fight bosses not jump for days. Megaman 2 and 3 are by far my favorites and the most memorable with Megaman 9 and 10 close behind. Megaman 2's Metal man's and Wily stage 1 music was something that'd stick with me, i remember just pausing the game and listening to it for a good while. Meanwhile in megaman 3, the intro was just so mysterious and gave a feeling that a great adventure awaited, also remembering leaving the game on for a while to listen to the intro music of mm3. Never have i had a truly bad experience with megaman 2. it was a great game and i see why the 2 difficulty options were given, japenesse gamers are that bad ass with games and dont need to be soft-balled in like we americans do, cause i know somewhere some kid would have complained to his mommy saying the game was WAY to hard and have capcom make another MM2 copy JUST for this reason, soo way to think ahead capcom, they predicted people would find this game too hard and You are proof of this (again no offence). This was also later brought back in megaman 9 and 10 cause once again we Megaman fans in the states just found megaman too hard in general. But i digress, it did let people of all skill levels play and thats fine but is it really all that hard? i dunno maybe im just a natural at megaman games but i never really saw the insane difficultness my friends did as i watched them die over and over again as they attempted to play, often telling me i make it look crazy easy and to this day am stumped how it was THAT hard.

I was able to beat the wall boss mainly because my version of the game was the Virtual Console version with restore points. It was a bit hard to get to the highest one without exploding its door, but I eventually did it. I feel bad for the poor kids of the NES age whom were unable to beat these poorly designed wall boobs.
@kevinmcallister374010 жыл бұрын
Back in the NES days, gamers relished in the crazy difficulty of games like Mega Man. Especially kids like me who only got a new game a couple of times a year. The incredibly hard difficulty of Mega Man let it last a long time. If the game was as difficult as most platforms today, it'd be over quickly. But the crazy difficulty of these games let them last a long time. Mega Man 2 and 3 lasted me months, and they were such a challenge that I'd go back to them to see if I could beat it again. In today's age, the extreme difficulty is frustrating to most gamers. But we didn't have games (outside of turn-based RPGs) that would give you 20+ hours of gameplay. Most of our games, if played well, could be beaten in an hour or two. So this was a way to make the gameplay last ages.
@Kingpinn0210 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a very nice way to look at it. If I was born around that time, I probably would've been use to the hard difficulty. Do you still play games today?

I mean, it's only the single best 8-bit sound track of all time, and Dr. Wily Stage One is almost inarguably the catchiest 8-bit track ever composed, but let's instead ramble on about how one of the easiest Mega Man games was sooooooo frustrating in a few spots for 10 minutes. >.< Oh well, the video was still pretty entertaining, overall.
