Nicely made video and the voice is very good with no annoying background music. For a retired technician like myself, he really didn't say much other than just replace the board. Most likely there was a short on the bad board pulling one of the supply voltages down. However, I would have found which line was low when it was all connected up and then try and run the short down. Sometimes the shorted part will even get hot if left on for a short time and then you can go to it. There is always the possibility that if it was hit by lighting that there could be numerous problems with the bad board. Having said all of that, sometimes to save money and headaches just doing what he did on this video is the best way to go. Tring to repair a surface-mount board can at times be a headache.

Really easy to follow troubleshooting guide. Thanks for sharing. Our tv that’s less than probably 5 years old has died. Bought at Costco but since everyone abused the return policy by upgrading their tvs every year, it’s way past the 90 day return window and probably past the extended as well. Power or logic could be the issue. Measuring the fuse and verifying voltage levels first was key. I’ll do the same.

If a PCB is dropping the power supply voltage down to 0V, or, as in your case, causing the TV to seem to be turned off when plugged into the power supply, then there is probably a short. Replacing an SMT board is the most common solution to this problem, as you have shown. If you wanted to find exactly what component was shorting, pour 90% isopropyl alcohol over the board and, under low power of a stereo microscope, see where the alcohol dries up the fastest. The component on which the alcohol evaporates the fastest is the shorting component. Now, you can order a replacement board, substitute the shorting component from the board you ordered, and keep the board that you ordered, plus the board from the TV, as extra boards from which you can harvest replacement components for future TV and electronics repair jobs. Sir, I've found your video to be the most useful and knowledgeable video among the hundreds I've watched. I am an electrician, but I'm not getting any readings from any of the pins from the power supply side. Also, when I unplugged the cable from power supply to the green board, no backlight came on. Would it be safe to assume the power supply/inverter is no good? Thank you in advance for any help, and the awesome straight to the point video you created for the rest of us 🤓
@Electronicle3 жыл бұрын
obviously it depends on your specific board and how its designed but yeah if there's no output then its probably the culprit. There will usually be at LEAST a constant 5v from one of the pins on all TV's. This allows it to go into a sleep mode but still keep an eye out for the power command from the remote or console power buttons.

Yippee I fixed my tv. I have the parts and I swap them out one at a time and found it it was the main power source the first one that you tested to be the culprit. I put all the new parts in anyway and we'll save the ones that we're not the culprit for future use. I figured I had the TV open and I already had the parts I might as well switch them out. I'm so happy and it didn't cost me a penny. 12 years ago Best Buy was just supposed to fix my TV in the parts didn't show up on time so they brought parts then when the other parts arrived in the mail I just kept them for future use and I'm sure glad I did because now it's like I have a brand new TV. It's a 3D TV plasma so they don't make those anymore.

Then took the batteries out of the remote control, pressed the on button for 15 seconds, placed batteries back in the remote and pressed the on button, and it did not work either. Your video gives me more information as to what might be wrong. There was a storm a couple a days before it stopped working so probably that had to do with the malfunction. THANKS --- a few years ago ( maybe 3 ) I purchased a 56" Samsung TV which had been a DISPLAY model at a store ( probably had been on 24/7/365 until they reboxed it to sell it ) . Purchased it cheap -- It lasted until just a few months after the warrantee expired --- I was watching it and part of the screen started to go dark then the whole screen just went dark in about a minutes time. It has been siting in the other room for the last year now. After watching a few of these videos I think I might try and tackle trying to fix it. I have no idea what is wrong but I guess I can at least open it and see.

*I know this is an old video and prob not get any answer/comment but. Hi there I have a Qnix 2700 that suddenly would not power on, it just went black while playing a game. I took it apart to see if I could see anything obvious but everything looked fine. I noted the power board number MST9XG7-WV2 and tried to find one but couldn't find anything but after watching this video I put the power board back in place (without the smaller board REALLY Small one)to do what you did @0:53 and without the other board connect the standby light came on(wasnt doing anything when everything was connected)So I think I can now assume its the other board. I took a close look at the other board and there are not many components on it and I think(not 100% sure) but one of the 110v 47uh capacitors looks SLIGHTLY bulging out no discolouring and not bulging out like I have seen on youtube videos but it does look like i is very very slightly raised so I have ordered one to replace it to see if that fixes it. I wanted to ask advice to see if you think this is probably the case(since the standby light comes on without the other board connected) and to ask why I would need to get the EXACT same (smaller board)logic board? to get it to work and why couldn't I just get any? Its a 27inch 1440p so couldnt I just get any logic board thats for a 27inch tv? And to thank you for the tip which might have pointed me in the right direction.

Very informative video, good testing. I am currently checking my Samsung UN55J6200DAF bcuz a few days ago, as we watched Tv, we began to hear crackling at the rear of Tv and it went dim blue, then black. It turned off with remote, but I disconnected everything off the wall outlet as precaution, bcuz I also smelled burnt wire. Watching pertaining videos, I checked fuse, its good. I inspected all 3 boards and only at the power supply board did I see like melted wire plastic. I could not see anything unusual on the main green board, it has a red lit port. The T-con board seemed ok as well, it has blue lights when I power on. Odd thing is, she turns on with power button and remote, but will only turn off with remote. I tested all LEDs thru the corresponding wire leads and many did not light. I tested the port pins from where the LED connector goes, and it had No current going out. I did perform the test you did, unplugged cable connector from main or logic board and did get the four 12.65v results in those leads, plus the 4.50 power on voltage of other set. One thing is for certain, I am going to replace All the LED strips with new. And Im prepared to replace the power supply board as well. However, I am not sure about the green logic/main board. Waht say ye..? I'd appreciate any input. (incidentally, this Tv is 7yrs old, was working flawlessly).

They also suggested taking out the batteries and press the power button on remote, which didn't work either!!!! Now, I've come across this video, which makes me hopeful that we can fix our tv instead of incurring the cost of purchasing a new one. Your diagnose was good but you stopped to early. There is a mosfet on the board that you should have checked, it is for the power of the main chip that shorts. Just check for the legs to short and if it is shorted change it, you can get 10 of them for $5 and a lot of Tv's all use the same or very close.

My Samsung, that I purchased 9 years and 3 months ago, had the front red LED still flickering in response to the remote control device, but that was as far as it got. The screen and sound remained OFF, and the red LED would simply remain ON instead of turning OFF as the screen and sound come to life. So step one was to check all the PCB electrical connectors to be sure there is no oxidization. Once each of them were cleaned, I plugged them all back in, and bingo, my Samsung LN32C350D1DXZC TV was up and running again. That was about 2 years ago, and it is still running perfectly today. Long ago, I did also add a fan, to keep the TV much cooler, and thus keep the electrolytic caps much cooler as well. That one little old CPU fan made a huge temperature difference.

I did it really cheap and sometimes only broke even but it was pocket money. Used to get help training at college. I still fix my own VCRs and CRT TVs but nobody else want ps anything doing. Great video.....I have a Samsung 75" Q70R and it went black screen while watching a movie, it flashed blue every 20 seconds, I have some knowledge in electronics so I opened it to see if it had bad capacitors. With the TV energized, I disconnected the ribon cable that goes to the main board and the screen turned blue, so I assumed it was not the damaged screen, I have been looking on ebay and I have found the original power supply parts, do you think that replacing the board will solve the problem?...thanks
@Electronicle2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't know. Without any measurements its hard for me to tell. With it flashing blue its almost like the power supply can't supply the proper current under load or its not outputting clean DC and/or the mainboard can't fully boot. It sounds like the blue you see is when it reinitializes. To SORT OF test the power supply, if you don't have an O'scope you can kind of check the output quality with a multimeter. Make sure first that you have the correct voltages and then switch to AC and check those DC outputs again. The reading should be zero or verrrry low. If you check the 12v output and see 1 or more volts constantly under AC then that's a problem...not a clean output...however that might only happen under a load. Could just be a bad main board and it can't initialize or boot ... or can't startup because of dirty DC. Someone like 12voltvids might have an idea as it seems he works on these much more than I do. Sometimes certain models have known issues. I could do that with older analog gear as I have more experience with them and know many of the common problems between them. Hope this all made sense. I truly wish you the best and let me know if you get it figured out.

That same 10 pin connector and table seems to be on a lot of other brands, LG etc. I salvage broken screens for the wonderful light panels they make, daylight skylight! The trouble is disconnecting the tuner-logic board leaves me to have to put a voltage on (on) and maybe more to get the lights to come on. I have never noticed pulling the 10 pin cable makes my task very easy as I want to ditch any extra power wasting tuner board etc. and have the lights to stay on not time out. I have a dead 4K screen that seems to be OK for power but the button does not respond. I tried 3-5 volts and cannot get the lights to come on. $30 says I'll order the tuner board.

Ive seen alot of these videos and in most cases its like get to the damn point. Your video wasn't like the rest which was koo... From my experiences and just having nothing better to do, if you grew up not having all the money in the world and things broke; for most that's how you learn to become a handy man. So for the people on here watching these type of videos and say "its because of these videos that gave you the push to jump in and trying to fix it yourself " i 👏 applaud you guys that's all it takes . To be honest 7 times out of 10 of all the tv's i fix here and there, its really only the Capacitor's and the ribbon cables that go bad and its really easy to fix those. As long as the lcd monitor or l.e.d's are not broken then usually what i just stated are usually the culprits.. If your an unlucky one it might be something a lil more but like i said if it isn't the screen or lights its easy to fix these things.. I got sick of seeing and hearing how people get ripped off for a fix that really was only a 5$ fix but getting charged about 100 then an additional 60 to "order" a part smh.. Good luck to all of you who are trying to roll on your own to fix your stuff don't get bamboozled by con artists.. Good video too!

glad it helped you and that it got it working. I'm not sure if you are asking about parts in general or if I personally could use em. Personally, no I have more than enough and am actually trying to clean up the shop and rearrange ... hence the lack of videos. But thank you anyways.

I have a similar TV, 46", 550 series Samsung (LN46A550P3FXZA) and the problem is that it struggles with startup...this has been going on for about a year and most people would have given up a long time ago. - The TV chimes when "on" is pressed (on remote) but nothing shows. After several seconds it tries again, chimes and so on. Sometimes there can be a hideous noise and sometimes nothing... I have noticed that temperature in the room is important - if cold, TV may never manage to startup, but if fairly warm, it will startup after some time. And then when running, there are no problems... We recently decided to get an LG 65" "ThinQ" but this machine, as it turned out, just reminded us how amazingly stellar the Samsung was, so we returned it and we started using the Samsung again. Now, after having stood idle on the floor for a couple of days, it still had startup problems, but much shorter, maybe 15 minutes whereas previously it had struggled for up to 90 minutes...and also, after stabilizing, it really is "stabilized" whereas before it might, if temperature has cooled in room, snap back into the hideous noise and scrambled screen state again... So I'm wondering what's going on - after warm and stable, it runs flawlessly and picture quality on this 11 year old machine is so great, that you'd have to go to QLED or OLED to surpass it...so I'd like to "save" it...and I'm wondering, what is this "warm up struggle" all about...? - ...can I fix it...? Part of the story is also that after about 5.5 years, the TV suffered another, similar, but not identical, startup problem. But that time, Samsung put in place a program whereby a technician would come and fix it in your home (for free), even though warranty had run out...very nice of Samsung. But this is eleven years and Best Buy just wants to sell you another TV, not assist with "fixing" an old set....(and I'm beginning to wonder if it is at all possible to make 4K TVs that equal or surpass 2K machines....the LG certainly didn't)

Might be a bad capacitor in the power supply or main board. Really only way to find out is to take it apart and find out. You'd have visually inspect as well as test voltages coming from the power supply
@jgknearlax49265 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reply - ...yeah, and I'm not qualified to do that. - Yesterday I started the TV in the afternoon without doing anything to warm up room, but temperature was "comfortable". It took 13 minutes of attempts but then TV stabilized and ran flawlessly the rest of the day...so it's just the startup process that is a problem, but far LESS of a problem now than earlier... It may restart with total silence and a black screen and then at next restart, you might have black screen and a hideously loud hissing noise...then noise and a frozen corrupted image and so on, until it manages to perform as intended...

I have a UN55J6201AF & the layout is the same. I tested power across the ribbon between the 2 boards and got similar numbers, but when I unplug the power board from the IO board, the LED array does NOT light up, and I can’t seem to detect any voltages from the pins on that connector. Does this mean the LED’s are burned out ? What do you recommend ?

Hope you can help with a Bn4400932C board. Upon applying ac to board 5a 280 slow blow fuse blows, continuously. All peripherals are disconnected. There does not appear to be any cold solder joints bad looking components or burns on the board. Any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Great vid, can i ask what the fuse amp is? 13amp or ?. My tv has 2 fuses. 1 was working as i used my multi to check it but the other was blown. So after looking over the board i wanted to see if i could at least a red power indicator light and so i added thin clips in place of the blown fuse to test this...(big mistake!) When i turned the power on a small cap blew and the alligator wire no longer has continuity and also loud bang and sparks :/ So im thinking of replacing the blown cap and fuse however in not sure what the cap rating is nor the second fuse amps. Any advice please. Thanks in advance
@Electronicle4 жыл бұрын
sorry man no idea, it was a while ago. You can try searching for a service manual for your tv which would tell you everything you need to know. If not...it may not be the right thing to do but i'll usually just throw a low rated fuse in, like 1 amp just to test until I can find the true amount.

A good whole house surge protector may have stopped that, but in any case, you still fixed it. You should always unplug everything electronic during a storm anyway.
