Charizard's goal is to become the strongest of his species. Being stronger than the Mega Evolved forms of his species is included in that. So Mega Evolving in order to do so would be cutting corners in his eyes. He'd rather achieve that goal in his base form

To Charizard it is, because it's not permanently becoming stronger. Plus, even if that weren't the case, it's a matter of pride to him as well. At least, this is the direction I'm going with currently

I'm so glad Mawile and Chespin were able to shine in Ramos's gym, then again against Remo. I think they needed some good focus after the last part, so this one was a great followup. I'm so glad Mawile finally has her mega stone. Hopefully she and Ash will learn to control Mega Evolution soon enough.

Ash's frogadier should evolve as soon as possible and ash's charizard should mega evolve into mega charizard x eliminating charizard's water and electric type weakness and rock type weakness will be 2(4 in base form charizard)

I'm not planning to make up anything specifically for this story, and they really aren't conflicted. Last part was when they solidified they wouldn't, while this part was really meant to hammer it home as Ash realized that Charizard doesn't necessarily need to win all the time, because even if Charizard manages to falter, the rest of the team can pick up where he left off and get the win
