Electroplating | Chemistry

Electroplating is a process that uses an electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coherent metal coating on an electrode. The term is also used for electrical oxidation of anions on to a solid substrate, as in the formation of silver chloride on silver wire to make silver/silver chloride electrodes. Electroplating is primarily used to change the surface properties of an object (such as abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities), but may also be used to build up thickness on undersized parts or to form objects by electroforming.
The process of depositing a layer of desired metal on any other metal is known as electroplating. We can electroplate iron spoon, iron car parts, etc. The term 'electro' refers to 'electric current'. The term 'plating' means the act of covering a metal object with a thin layer or coating of a different metal.

Maam in electroplating if we take the example of copper plate 1 where we have taken copper sulphate as a solution and then we hv added sulphuric acid then in that sulphur ions were also there then why didn't they attracted towards pos. Terminal as they r negatively charged

Galvanizing something is a process of applying a layer of a more active metal to a base metal to protect the base metal. In most cases iron is coated with zinc, the zinc will corrode first since it is more the active metal (see the table of electro-negativity) thus protecting the iron from rusting. So the important layer, the iron, is kept from corrosion by sacrificing the zinc coating. There are two ways of applying the zinc, (or other sacrificial metal) hot dipping, where the base piece is dipped into a molten bath of the zinc, or electroplating, where the base piece has zinc plated onto it, which may be done to get a thinner smoother layer.
