I’ve been using the Heat mk1 since it first came out, and it’s a really useful tool. I have to say though, I really can’t understand why they didn’t use this updated version as an opportunity to add a parameter lock sequencer. It’s such an obvious feature for an Elektron box!

I've been waiting for them to do a performance mixer. Basically the octatrack minus samples with more inputs and a more modular routing. If they kept the scenes and crossfader from octa it would be a killer live effects machine.

Well, I'm glad I spent $800 for the Heat MKII just 6 months ago just to find out they want me to buy an entirely new machine just for a few FX that could have been added via a firmware update. This really feels like a slap in the face by Elektron honestly. Every other machine has been upgraded via FREE firmware updates but the Heat MKII just got left behind. $800 spent and literally no updates or support for arguably the most over priced of all the Elektron machines. Thanks Elektron for making me feel like I wasted $800 on my Heat MKII.

For someone who wants a coloring / end of chain box this is now very interesting as it makes up for some of the shortcomings of the analog heat. For instance, i chose oto boum for my end of chain box, but I miss the headphone output, and eq. Now this has a compressor (albeit digital), and it becomes more of a all in one box. Well done, although I don't think I'll be needing it, and I also think current heat MK2 owners won't be happy haah.

Aww damn the compressor is digital? Thats unfortunate but i guess if you've already converted the signal for the reverb & delay, might as well compress it at the same time. The Mk2's envelope follower can already kinda be used for some analog compression, albeit in a rough, hard to control way. Hopefully it allows bypassing the AD conversion altogether if only using the Heat circuits, without any noticeable drops or spikes in volume.

If the compressor was analog I'd pull the trigger easy. My Heat sees more use than a lot of my other gear, so I'm sure there's something I could part with to fund this. Gonna have to think on it for a bit though.

You sir are 100% correct. Spent $800 just 6 months ago for my Heat MKII. The Heat MKII is the only Elektron device that hasn't received any type up upgrade since it came out. It's one of the most expensive Elektron devices too, you would think they would have added some features via firmware update so the people who did buy the MKII feel like they got their moneys worth. I buy Elektron because they support their products for years after they come out with cool updates and features. It's not crazy to expect some type of upgrade for the Heat MKII. This is disappointing to say the least. Instead of upgrading the MKII and adding some features they want me to buy yet ANOTHER device.

I've been writing and producing electronic music since 1997 and out of everything I've ever used, heard, or known of, the only piece of gear that I truly believe every musician should own is the analog heat. It is the ultimate studio glue. That said, the analog circuits are the real value and I'm not sure I care much about the fx since I have a bunch of effects already and without being able to route fx via 4-6 individual sends with individual ins/outs, I'd rather just keep doing fx the way I've been doing them.

Yeah a mixer with flexible per-channel and bus compression to run between the synths/drum machines and the Heat would have been perfect. I've got plenty of reverb and delay pedals already, and my Heat mk2 is still doing it's job beautifully.

I saw heat and FX and thought sweet an FX firmware update. Denied!!! They basically created a MKII firmware from multiple models FX options and changed ON button / screen color. Should have actually introduced a new novel product. Most have already bought plugins or pedals which from what I heard briefly sound better. When it's used and 40+% off I may take a closer look. My MKII already does a great job mangling any track beyond recognition if/when needed.

Yet again underwhelmed with something Elektron released. At first I thought it’s a new firmware for existing box. This would be good to have as free update. But the same looking box with the same routing option and much bigger price tag… nah. Many people use analog heat on master channel and most of the fx in this +FX thing are suitable for individual sounds. And as someone already pointed out with current single in/out not so interesting. I’ll stick to my good old heat as don’t see the point in this. Ps I know people will comment that I don’t understand and it’s the best thing ever but, I’m not a blind fanboy. I can think, analyse and decide. This thing is yet again weird move from Elektron (like syntakt).

As an mk1 owner I don’t feel compelled to upgrade. This just adds a bunch of mediocre digital fx, and I guess it could be nice for live performance and stuff, but plugin fx are just so much better than what this has to offer. I already use overbridge in tandem with vst plugins and even if I had this version that’s still what I would do. I would only use the distortion eq section and do everything else with plugins. It’s just a way better workflow imo

I can see your point that for certain workflows it doesn’t make sense. I don’t own mk1 or 2 and this will probably get me to buy. I do work inside and outside the daw. In the daw I would use this to mangle individual tracks and on the mix (situation depending)… outside the box I’d mangle tracks or samples and resample. I have always been searching for a modern take on the Korg kp3… not sure this is it… but if it does well the first year I will probably pick it up.

@@dracul74 If what you're really looking into is a multifx device for mangling and resampling stuff, I highly recommend you look into Devious Machines Infiltrator 2! It has more fx than I can count (including spectral fx) + you can sequence those fx + it has a one button randomization feature which is super neat for coming up with unexpected results! As for the heat, I like to use it on a send bus. It helps add some nice saturation to groups and you can use the envelope follower to as a sort of pseudo-compressor. Though I guess they've added a compressor anyway lol. So there's that. Heat is also great for mastering if that's something you're looking into! Oh and you can also use it with an electric guitar. Heat + IR cab simulation can easily help you achieve a great guitar tone :D

@@TheAlburp much thanks… will definitely check it out! I do like to mangle… my current (hardware) favs are using various effects from my sp 404mk2, using my tascam 4track tape (great for gluing a mix, vibe or pitching samples), my ua 4-710d (tube or analog vibe) or various guitar pedals.
