I like the fact that their partnership runs deeper than a job, or friendship, or even a romantic relationship. They’re like two faces of the same coin. Siamese twins. Soulmates. You can’t have one without the other!

This was a GREAT scene. This was a huge jump of the Holmes\Watson relationship from sober companion\addict to here starting the student\teacher aspect which of course evolved to true partners and the best friends ultimately reaching all the way to the end of season 6's wonderful moment "We're two people who love each other". The Holmes\Watson development has been very well done, growing and changing season after season. I'm very happy where it all ended up in the series finale. They officially reached the iconic Holmes\Watson relationship of the books, movies etc.

i believe every word; the writing is utterly complex and satisfying. we feel we're Watson as Sherlock delivers this reveal. And Lucy's presence even with back turned, provides not a confusion, but rather a space for Sherlock to deliver every word, as he would wish it. The "Lest you think" passage is deliciously good. Said with a shudder of confession, "i'm better with you." I've felt this in my own life. here, it's brilliant. it comes across as true.

This is the scene that sold me that Elementary was a better Sherlock Holmes show than Sherlock: better performed, the better character development, amazing storytelling that hews better to the Conan Doyle spirit.

fastbowler I love this show. Sherlock and Joan Watson have such great chemistry. I agree with you. Best show. Thank you for your thoughts and kindness. Peace. 😊🤗

You're welcome care petie! And my comment is a little white lie: I loved this show from Episode 1! So this scene actually sold me that Sherlock would never reach the heights of Elementary. (Sorry, Sherlock fans)

I actually agree. Although I like BBC Sherlock for it's own merits (Not season 4 so much) Elementary felt like I could reading a modern day pastiche of the original Sherlock Holmes. And although ACD might have objected to an Asian woman playing Watson (such were the times) I doubt there's anything he would have over all objected to.

I don't. The whole strength of this show has been that the two leads are opposite genders but have no romantic entanglement. They actually exist as the long awaited exception to the rule that two such characters have to jump in bed together at some point in their time together.

This is the most toxic relationship I have seen in a tv show. The guy has total control of a woman that can not have a real life separated from his "job". It is sonehow slavery. Very twisted idea of a "profesional" relationship.

I think we're watching different shows. She literally stayed without pay. For herself, not for him. Because she is interested in the work. She literally became a detective later on with her own merits. She also has her own life - she dates, has a child, has friends who are not Sherlock, sees her family. I don't see how you jumped to the conclusion of slavery, and I'm not sure you understand what 'slavery' means. She can stay on FOR HERSELF without pay, or she can take the free money that Sherlock is willing to take out of his 'funds'.

No, it is not a toxic relationship, it is an equal, loyal and beautiful relationship of friendship and honesty.
@rachelzahava82923 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how it is toxic, he is making her an offer, not making any demands, stating that he thinks they work well together and that she could be good at this kind of work, how does he have control over her? his in ability to separate from his work might be something that occasionally gets in the way of their lives in general but it isn't like he is like I don't have a life so you don't get a life. And he is literally paying her for a job she wants, thats the opposite of slavery

Wise up its not toxic you talk such rubbish don't like it dont watch

It's not toxic. He made it clear she can decide to work with him or not. She can stay at the Brownstone or not. She can move on or not. He essentially stated that he values her as a possible investigative partner and hinted he cares about her as a friend. His intensity and his eccentricities do not make him toxic and yes, he wants her to stay. But he clearly told her to consider if it was something she would like and did not guilt trip her. He even stayed that he tried to adopt a more sanguine mood so she would not worry about him before, because he didn't want to cause her anxiety over his recovery. I see absolutely no abusive or toxic traits. An intense nature and passion for his work, and his unusual ways of living and approaching life might not be everyone's cup of tea...but he took great care to give her options and merely added that he would like her to stay on if she also wanted to do so. Considering she stayed on without pay and did not confide in him because she was concerned shows that she cares about him as a person and at this time, a new friend. Neither is being toxic. Does Sherlock need some instruction perhaps about things that might be seen as somewhat boundary crossing? Perhaps. You get the feeling he doesn't know how to navigate the intricacies of friendship and there is a smattering of affectionate ribbing in the show that reminds me of a little brother at times teasing a sister, but it's another way he shows affection. At this point, it's obvious that Sherlock has had few, if any, close friends and seems actually starved for friendship. He's not toxic. He's lonely. But despite his at time odd manner of engaging with others, you can always tell he is trying his best to be supportive and caring and honest. If anything, people likely think he is too blunt at turns. Additionally, as the series progresses it hints that Sherlock eventually takes the odd case for payment which he splits with Joan. At this point, he's turned down payment and taken cases pro bono and it's hinted he has access to a trust fund which gives him the opportunity to do so. In many ways, Sherlock came from privilege...but it was mostly financial privilege. Emotionally, it sounds like he was very lonely and isolated, and bullied as a child. So of course he doesn't comprehend how offering money from his trust fund could be seen as problematic either, because that's all he's ever known. He's never been in the position that most people have been in...and so it's likely that despite his brilliance, he could easily overlook issues that might cause others to have reservations. When I think of a toxic person...I think of someone who is duplicitous, who manipulates surface level charm and lays on guilt and other psychological tactics to get their own way with no emotional concern for others. Sherlock has an abundance of emotional concern...it is just expressed atypically as his mind works a little differently and his life and upbringing have not given him an abundance of close friendship or parental feedback.
