ElementDriven rear liftgate interior latch release install

Installation instructions for our rear hatch release for all 2003-2011 Honda Elements.
Kit comes with everything needed for you to install yourself with your basic hand tools. Two holes are needed to be drilled in your liftgate plastic panel.

this is a great product! i hacked my own but i can see how this would be so easy for someone who doesn't want to do all the searching for the the optimum locations to drill.... which I have definitely drilled a few too many holes in search of the best location haha.

All you need is some heavy duty nylon string and a button. Tie one end of the nylon string through the loop in the latch above the o. e. cable and run it toward the driver' side.. Punch a tiny hole through the plastic door panel in any convenient spot. Run the other end through that hole, leaving some slack hanging toward the interior. Replace the panel and pull on the string. The latch will open, and spring back. Finally, tie the button to the string, taking up enough slack so the button pulls against the interior panel. The only tools required are a pair of scissors to cut the string and an awl to punch a hole in the plastic. I even found a 1 inch diameter gray plastic button to match the interior!

How do you reconnect the exterior door release? It looks like you can only open it from the inside, now?

The exterior door release cable is only temporarily disconnected to slide on our cable. It gets reconnected so you have both interior and exterior access.

Is it possible to lock yourself out if you exit theough the rear hatch?

When in doubt, always take your keys with you. But you should be fine since you exited from it unlocked, unless your auto-lock activates. You do have to hit unlock on your fob to open the rear hatch from inside.
