I grew up in Bushwich, our rent was like $500-600 tops, even in the early 00s, its wild to see ppl pay this much to live in an area that ppl were literally dying in.
@shoppingintheusa70303 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the story. What do you mean are people were dying in?
@InTheNameOfLife13 жыл бұрын
@@shoppingintheusa7030 It was an area that suffered a major economic downfall after WWII. It has a really rich history of multiple cultures/immigrants, but also got pretty abandoned by businesses and violent in the late 70's and into the 80's. So the major influx of gentrification to the area is a huge contrast to even just 20 years ago.
@Picasso_Picante922 жыл бұрын
As a young man in Bushwick in the 80s, I saw dead junkies outside my home, my cousin strung out on crack giving strangers blowjobs on Flushing avenue. Knickerbocker ave was so thick with drug merchants they gave the street its own name “The Well”. Bushwick was a disgusting dirty forgotten part of NY. And absolutely no one knew where Bushwick was.

My first time in New York was for a lookbook photoshoot. I flew there by myself from LA and once I landed and checked into my hotel, I simply walked around for a bit and started sparking up conversations with the artsy looking locals. Small talk turned into invitations to be shown around the city. Long story short, I ate and drank and partied the night away with amazing people until the sun began to illuminate over the grey streets and astonishing architectural landscape. It felt quite cinematic. Til this day I think about how special my first encounter with New York was and why it will always have a place in my heart.

@@kathleenbeannns I think a lot of people who consume this style of KZbin and social media content often forget how unrealistic and unattainable these lifestyles actually are. @MTMF.london3 жыл бұрын
@@Dlkny321 Obviously, you don't know much about history. Gentrification saved Bushwick and many New York neighborhoods. In the 1970s, Bushwick and many neighborhoods got into serious trouble after the 1977 Blackout. Arson, looting, riots and vandalism were rife and close to half of businesses shut down and thousands of people left. Half of the people were on welfare. Because of gentrification, Bushwick and many other neighborhoods like Crown Heights, Flatbush and Harlem became livable again. Yes, many people made money out of gentrification but it made New York a vibrant, livable city again.

some people invest their money in a business or crypto. I don't agree with it but thats what they do. These people are losing out on the benefits of home ownership. Eventually they get pushed out of the neigborhood as they get older and cant afford the rent.

Love her minimalist style, it's not the typical you'd see and has clean lines but also character. Also, according to some research...." Canarsee (Canarsie) was a Brooklyn tribe of Lenape, part of the Delaware Nation that lived in most of what became Kings and Queens counties. Their primary occupation was hunting and gathering with specialties in fur trading and fishing. The name Canarsee in the Algonkian or Lenni language means “fenced in community.” So this tribe also extended throughout queens and bk for "history"
