As a person from the South of Portugal (also with a very prominent beach culture) I can definitely relate to what you were describing. Living in a bigger city, where there is more of a hustle culture, is such a motivation to do more and achieve more!
@carolinashoemaker59384 жыл бұрын
I think it's like what she said in the video, it definitely depends on the stage of life you're on, and what you want to do. When I was in high school I wanted to move to a big city and work it there, I've now lived in a big city for years and while I have enjoyed my time here, I just feel tired all the time now, I want my life to be more quiet and slow paced.

I really really appreciate that you called it "beach culture" as opposed to "San Diego culture." As a native San Diegan, my experience is that most San Diegans' lives have NEVER looked like beach culture. San Diego is full of so many diverse people with a myriad of socioeconomic statuses and backgrounds (we are right on the border, a city of immigrants!). It's easy to get sucked into the idea that all of San Diego looks like the incredible lives that people live on the beach. There is so much environmental racism in Barrio Logan, redlining has made a lot of beach communities homogenous--I could keep going. I love this city and community so much and, yes, the beach is my favorite place on the planet. But I thought I would bring some attention to the community that exists around the beach culture. With that being said, I do love your content! And I wish you all the best in New York ✨✨✨

For someone who grew up in California, I love going to the beach, the sun, the vibes and everything about this state. But This year I traveled to NYC for the first time alone and it was such an experience I could never abandon. NYC made me feel so independent as a 20 year old and inspired me to be productive and put myself out there. Walking out on the streets of NY alone for the first time, there are hundreds of people hustling and constantly moving with headphones in. For someone that wants to go to med school and continue to work hard, I find the NYC life is much suited for me especially in my young 20s. I will forever love Socal, but I would definitely move to NY if I ever get the chance. Safe travels Elena!

I'm a born and raised east-coaster currently trying to move to NYC and this is super accurate! I considered moving out west to Denver or the PNW but in the end, I'm someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and I think moving west would actually be bad for my mental health lol

as someone who was raised outside nyc and then went to orange county for college, you are definitely right about the stereotypes. i miss the hustle and bustle of the northeast that i don't think southern california always has (i still love it, but it feels so laidback compared to the quick pace of nyc/boston)

Dude I feel you on the CA talks. I grew up in Ventura (upper SoCal I guess?) and it’s SUCH a bubble. I had to move back from SF because I lost my job and it’s been almost a reverse culture shock. I forgot how the people here have no intention of ever leaving and are pretty narrow minded. This will always be my home but there’s so much more to the world and it’s important to find an environment that will get you out of your comfort zone!

Hey thank you for sharing your thoughts on CA vs NYC. I have been living in nyc all my life, currently in sophomore in NYU, and during the pandemic I’ve able to do a lot of self reflection and one goal I have is being more in the present and taking things slower but also being in nyc there will always be a hustle and like you said a drive to do something bigger than yourself. Idk what I’m trying to say but I guess I’m trying to find a balance between grinding and enjoying life and I really hope you are too, which it seems like it! Btw the energy I get from your videos really makes the day 1000% better so thank your for that!

Great CA content, Elena! Brings back such warm memories of my Cali home life. As a New Yorker who has been quarantining in the Apple since March, please know that what you’re flying back to is not the New York you left. I’m in no way trying to appear gloom or dramatic, but thought it’d be important to mention this as you make your way back into the city. I’m sure you’ve read the many articles describing NYC in its current state of feeling like a “ghost town”. In a short phrase, I’ll only say: It’s not the same, at ALL! New York will always bounce back, but alas, this feels far from happening right now. NY’s soul is currently checked out. ----But on a lighter note, people who want the ‘bouncing’ to begin, like yourself, will help NYC regain its soul. So to that, cheers and the best to you!!! To (still) L♥️ving NY! 🥂
@danielledoherty54524 жыл бұрын
Gina G i also live here and it’s not as gloomy as you say, at least where I live (LES). It gets more lively every week. It’s definitely not perfect and definitely not back to normal but it’s not as bad as it was these past few months.
@TheGinalalala4 жыл бұрын
I agree that the current NYC is not identical to the start of this calamity. I think NY reporter, Allan Ripp, articulates this very well....”New York is looking shabbier and feeling gloomier than anytime I remember in 40-plus years. Homeless camps have moved into many neighborhoods. Once-vibrant stores and cafes are shuttered, along with clubs and theaters. Random street crimes are the tabloid rage. Midtown is missing its spark of shoppers, office workers and tourists; density isn’t the social ambrosia it was. Even the 7 p.m. cheers for health-care workers have lost their spirit, less Gershwin and more school assembly.” -- “As municipal tax coffers dwindle, so will the arts and quality-of-life services, including sanitation and education. Why should aspiring creatives flock someplace where they can’t showcase their talent?” All this to say: I (too) will still take Manhattan. www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-ill-still-take-manhattan-20200813-xept46irkjektoqrdojexyvxeq-story.html?fbclid=IwAR0B23PWIA10zS5jq1goM-2wVYNJmpgSwSc-2JhMFt8deJFltvmRRP-5RJk
