That elephant bull is called “ JD” .. he is a very social elephant with humans but is a rather naughty elephant at times as he helps himself to anyone’s supplies without asking 😂😂😂 I have photographed him before..you may ask how would I know this is JD .. just because of his one tusk on the right has a big chip missing from the top pointed area and his body which contorts when he reaches up to feed off the trees . He also now has a hole on the lower left ear closer towards his head . Beautiful animals and always a privilege to be in the company in their world . Just always remember to remain calm and stand sill and please just be quiet and he will enjoy your company after a while . Thanks for sharing this!

Bono read the elephant's non-threatening body language and realized that he was just curious. Bulls, when not in musth, are generally very courteous gentlemen.

Amazing how he came just close enough to greet them and then stopped and stood there to pose. Like they already know they are gigantic and could harm a human very easily. I love how they are so graceful when moving around. Amazing creatures really. ☺️👌🏻

Very lovely video. in all the elephant videos iv watched so far, iv noticed a common mistake with tourists. They tend to talk or stretching hands pointing at things whilst at a close range to elephants. These ar very curious animals. Ull notice that when they're some steps away backing off from examining your car, if one of u start whispering or moving arms, they tend to stop and listen, even coming back examine some more. That tells m that they have sharp hearing as well. Pliz learn to keep as quiet as possible and not movings arms around them. I guess u become threat less to their senses.

That looks like Judith (never "Judy"), with a busted left tusk. Yell "game time" and she'll make a beeline for the nearest shade tree and plop against it, expecting the dominoes setup. She's plays a good match, but can't figure out double sevens, and she hides her trials with her trunk.

Mandy-Lou Dumesny-Blahut Elephants in Mana Pools are unlike any we’ve ever encountered anywhere else in the wild. MP ellies are completely mellow and we’ve stayed at a few different places in the park over the years and they all seem to have the same calmness about them, it’s amazing to experience being arms length away from such an enormous awesome creature (yes I could have reached out and touched him while we sat at the base of that tree, if I was that stupid)!
@mandy-loudumesny.20466 жыл бұрын
Cynthia Mack I love these giants but I’m also aware of the dangers. I’m glad you have had up close encounters with them. Such wonderful animals. Xx
@cynthiamack48606 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, one has to remember they are wild animals, and even experts sometimes make mistakes in judgement, sadly we know of a guide of 23 years who died while on walking safari with his guests, while he saved their lives he lost his :-( nature is unpredictable ever cautious is my motto, always have an escape route :-) and I agree of al the animals my favorite are ellies, I can sit all day and watch them at my favorite spot in Hwange (the waterhole hide at Little Makololo is wonderful :-)
@mandy-loudumesny.20466 жыл бұрын
Cynthia Mack that’s very sad to hear. You’re very right. No one can predict how an animal is going to respond in any situation despite being very qualified to make certain judgements. Life throws curve balls often. We just don’t know what is around the corner. Having said this I still love all animals and I’m totally intrigued with these delightful beings. Xx

You have to stay & quiet otherwise They'll either run a mile away from You or They'll charge You. Yu never get up & start moving when a wild elephant is approaching. They stay calm if You stay still & quiet. No talking & no walking. Those are the rules. They don't like sudden movements or sudden loud noises.

The elephant didn't seem to be afraid of humans. Do the tour guides bring them treats to train them to come to that area? This may result in the elephants learning to come up to the cars, and not being afraid. this worries me becasue a tusk hunter might use this to their advantage.
@cynthiamack48604 жыл бұрын
Seriously? No they don’t bring “treats” this is a completely isolated and wild area within Mana Pools. These are wild elephants, we just happened to select a nice shady spot for out tea time and a bull elephant decided he wanted the flower pods of the tree that was shading us. There haven’t been significant issues with poaching here, one side of the river is within one of Zimbabwe’s national parks and the other side is within Zambia’s Lower Zambezi national park. It just so happens elephants are more at ease here, they appear to feel safer and less threatened.
@commercialcommunication92984 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiamack4860 I'm glad to hear that. I didn't realize wild elephants were so comfortable around humans. I must say, your footage of the elephant stretching is absolutely amazing. I have never seen that before. Thanks for posting your great footage.

Greg Sieracki while that is true in SOME regions of the world, elephants and their families have very distinct personalities and can vary dramatically from region to region. I can assure you that in this very UNIQUE part of the wilderness (that being Mana Pools) the elephants while wild are completely comfortable with the human presence and for that reason they are not to be as feared as in most other places we’ve tracked them (and there are areas where if you’re closer than a football field they WILL charge you). We’ve been privileged to track them on foot here and even been sitting in chairs reading outside our tent and they’ve snuck up behind us ( they are almost completely silent) and they’ve stood right next to us, as long as you remain perfectly still they are fine with us. But if someone is stupid he’s going to get hurt. The guides in Mana are extremely good at reading the animals. Tracking Ellie’s and wild dogs and even the lions on foot here in Mana have been the highlights of many of our safaris ❤️ making this the place we keep coming back to as often as we can (we were here again recently).
