In South Africa I was told once “the elephant is the real king of the jungle - but because they aren’t predators and eat meat, they aren’t ‘seen that way by people.’” And that totally solidified that for me watching the lions scurry away when they saw the elephants coming. Elephants are amazing

I mean if it was 1, I could maybe see the lions trying to do something....but the fact there was like a dozen of them, they definitely pissed right off. It depends on what lens you look at it from. Sure the Elephant is the most powerful animal, similar to tigers in India - where Lions also reside in certain areas - but the symbolism of the Male Lion’s purpose in nature is to do nothing but fight for his legacy. When Bull Elephants and Male Tigers come of age - they leave their respective families, and largely live lives of solitude. Kings of their own domains. When Male Lions come of age, they’re forced to leave their families but the have this drive to create one or conquer one - and lead it. Legacy. Kings of their own dynasty. A dynasty that functions as one of the strongest groups in the domain. That’s why people have always seen the Lion as the king of the jungle - because we’re social animals just like them. Never been the strongest animal individually but as a group we can conquer anything - and for much of history we’ve had strong males lead the way. Humans and lions share that in common.

Nature teaches compassion? What? That is a good way to lead someone to their death. Nature is brutal because it is complexity happening at every moment. It's fine to humanize an instance and call it sweet, but there is a reason the human species developed tools, defenses, societies, and amenities. Nature is literally brutal, raw existence and it doesn't teach kindness. It hardens dwellers and they either survive by becoming intelligent to nature's brutality or they become a tiny speck of darwinism that happened in the great procession of existence marching on. Let's not confuse people and make them think Nature is just waiting for them with a big warm hug. Nature is not kind. Nature is Nature.

These man made watering holes really need to be designed better. I've seen at least 2 animals get stuck in them and be unable to get out. Thus rhino's situation is particularly bad because there's no way any animal is going to be able to grab its corpse and drag it out, leaving it to rot and pollute a common water source for a lot of animals.

Animals seem to have it together better than us humans no matter their breed when it comes to doing the right thing! Curious thought; the taping of this…is it for safety to watch them? Forgive my negligence I really would like to know…

I'm pretty sure I've been to this national park. It looks like Etosha, in Namibia. You camp behind a high fence and can watch the game come down to the waterhole from a "bunker" day or night. I saw a male lion, rhino and elephant there at the same time. The elephants wouldn't let any of the other animals drink while they were there and actively chased them away. When the last elephant left the rhino came in and the solitary male lion. It was something to behold. Nothing as dramatic as the video but still very special. Nature is mental 👌

To those saying it was annoyed with the rhino. If it was annoyed it would have been trumpeting ar the edge of the watering hole and flapping it's ears. This elephant let out some blasts of trumpet sounds out of frustration of not being able to lift or push the rhino to safety. It tried using its trunk, it's rear legs and front leg to push the animal to safety. It gets a solid A- for effort.

It was beautiful to watch as the elephants walked up in their pack that they kept all the babies on the inside of their circle to protect their babies above all else. And instead of several of the adult elephants, going over there to help most stay back to protect their babies. It’s also sad to see the rhino is stuck in what looks like something man-made. So it leaves me to wonder if that man-made edging wasn’t there with the rhino had a better chance of getting out to save itself. It’s one of those it’s good that humans are there to help the animals at the same time by thembeing present and doing things, does it also hurt the environment and make it harder for the animals at times

Truly heart touching moment, you clearly see that that's a man made dam, pond or whatever. That's not nature taking it's coarse, it's humans endangering wildlife
@johnnytucker670911 ай бұрын
Never understood this way of thinking. Is a beaver dam a part of nature? And if it is, then why is that? Is it because they're an animal and animals are a product of nature, so anything they create is ipso facto "natural"? And if that's the case then wouldn't that same logic apply to humans as well? Why are creations of humans often regarded as unnatural as if we are some sort of artificial life form from somewhere off planet, when we are in fact just another expression of mother nature. I'd argue, easily the most impressive animal on the planet. And I'd also argue that the feeling that humans are this evil and irredeemable force of death and destruction, is what's "unnatural". We're the only animal on earth that has ever proactively tried to keep other animals from disappearing forever. You can argue that we're not great at it, but the point is that we make an attempt, on a level that no other animal in history is even capable of comprehending, much less attempting. Sorry, I know your comment didn't really warrant a lecture, it's just such a common trope and I cannot for the life of me understand how people can rationalize this thought process. We're not that bad as a species. We're actually extremely rare and amazing. Idk its just the "human bad" schtick is getting old

@johnnytucker670911 ай бұрын
@@evandtor But I have no problem with acknowledging whether a certain thing is useful, mean, stupid or an accident... What I took issue with in the OC is the last sentence.... "That's not (nature taking its course), it's (humans endangering wildlife). The two situations that she describes (you may have noticed I put parentheses around them ^^^up there) as mutually exclusive, and I very much disagree. They are not mutually exclusive. I don't understand this increasingly prevailing idea that seems to presuppose that humans aren't a part of nature and that our actions, I would assume as a consequence of this presupposition, are more harmful than not, as they relate to wildlife and other forms of "nature". But the separation of humans from nature seems, and probably is, arbitrary as far as I can tell. In fact, people don't seem to notice that they're even implying this distinction. They just automatically go to "humans bad" when it comes to nature. Like they believe that we're encroaching on nature, as if there's any way or scenario in which our perceived encroachment is in any way, and to any degree, avoidable. The implication in that sentence is that we're not a part of nature, and I don't believe this to be a logically coherent position to take. Also it's just unhealthy and even toxic to some degree to view everything through this lens of human malevolence, something that people seem to be so keen to do these days... Sorry, I know I'm rambling lol
