Funny thing to note, when the guys are doing their little poses to support Yamaguchi before he serves, most of them are holding up one finger, encouraging him to just get the next point. However, Hinata is holding up all 5 fingers, encouraging him to go for more.

I actually love the little conversation at the beginning when Yamaguchi comes in because it tells us a little more about Hinata. Hinata says "Get 10 points!", Yamaguchi says "That would end the game." and then Hinata replies "I would forgive you." Hinata just wants to stay on the court and keep playing, that's also why he doesn't want to win simply for the sake of winning, he wants to win because if they win they get to play another game. If they win they get to play more volleyball. That's the ultimate motivation for Hinata and also Kageyama.

They received Oikawas serve with two people, because that was their initial strategy in season one against oikawas serve. I guess they thought it kind of worked out against oikawa and therefore did not change it until it was too late.
@bbittercoffee3 жыл бұрын
I think it's because he had such a great control that having three people could actually make them get confused and it was better to leave Asahi and the others to try and end his serving as fast as possible by scoring a spike But right now, he's exchanging control for even more power, so they can't have that much of the court open so they changed back to 3 people receive.
@luckypanda77073 жыл бұрын

28:17 They do this because Oikawa sees which receiver is the less skilled and consistently exploit that by serving really hard hits towards them to take control of the match. Daichi and Nishinoya are skilled and fast enough to cover a larger area, so they make up for it, so they risk less by having 2 good receivers rather than 3 when 1 of them is an easy target... At least, that's what they thought until the serve that followed. But Daichi and Nishinoya were still underestimating Oikawa's serve (which changed since their first encounter) and, perhaps, even overestimating their own skill a little bit... That's when they asked Asahi to join in.
@Intersectingstuff3 жыл бұрын
Lol they are not overestimating themselves. They are just using the old strategy from season 1. But then they see that Oikawa serve in this season are different (focus on power instead of control, so he doesn't really target anyone now) thus why they needed different strategy by adding Asahi to the receiving squad Edit: cmiiw but it's aligned with what coach always say - the team that makes the last adjustment wins. Oikawa has perfected his adjustment in second set, and Karasuno has just made this adjustment going to the 3rd set😏

11:07 Ya-ma-gu-chi. Rule. The. Court. My most favorite part of rereading and rewatching Haikyuu is catching the poetry of how Furudate-sensei uses the banners of each school in specific moments. For Karasuno's 2 man receiving formation, they've been using it since last match because Oikawa will do a pinpoint serve on whoever he thinks he can score on him. So they rather let Nishinoya and Daichi do the job. At that moment Asahi had quit volleyball for a while and Tanaka's still a second year that he's not a good passer as Daichi and Nishinoya. But for this match, Oikawa is more focus on power instead of the aim, and since Karasuno had improved their basic plays such as passing thru the training camp, they decided to let Asahi joined the passing formation as well

I cannot emphasize this enough. Coach Donny’s explanations of certain lines from characters, plays in a match, or anything else that has a deeper meaning is incredible. I swear, I learn more about volleyball from him than i do my own coach haha. Huge respect! Both you and Yamaguchi definitely give me motivation to practice my serves more often!

29:20, Coach, remember in season 1 Oikawa would serve in the seem many times, and that caused Karasuno to loose many points. The adjustment they made was to have only the 2 best passers so that there would be less confusion at the time to recieve. Now that they have Oikawa serving stronger than ever they have to adjust back to having 3 recievers.

Hey Coach, i just wanted to point something out. Now this may just be something personal, but I can tell you from personal experience as a cigarette smoker, the fact that Ukai not only put out his smoke, but through it out all together, is a level of respect that i didnt notice my frist time around. When a smoker puts out their smoke to listen to what you have to say, that means that you have their 100%, undivided attention, no questions asked. That is a dedicated coach if you ask me! Thanks for being so cool coach! Keep up all the fantastic work you do and thanks for inspiring us to play to our hearts content!!

When coach said that you should work on your serve if you're alone it was also true for Kageyama. He has such good serve because no one in his junior high could keep up to his stamina and training after Oikawa and Iwaizumi passed out from school. That's why he kept practicing serves.
@TrianaNero3 жыл бұрын
"A shot to break through the skin" is a weird translation - Takeda actually says "a point that breaks you out of your shell" (basically you show your true self for the first time). One could say it's kind of a reference to Tsukki's development in S2 since Nekoma's coach used the same metaphor.

One thing to point out:two men receiving oikawa's serve is the strategy applied in the season1's game because at that time oikawa focused more on control than power and targeted at those who was not that good at receiving.

28:20 Go back to season one. The Coach adjusted the team to have two back for Oikawa because he was picking them apart when they had more. At the beginning of this match it was still so effective that Oikawa switched from precision to full power serves. It took him a few rotations to get it down, but now he is landing them and this is the point where Karasuno realizes they need to make another adjustment or serve is going to kill them again.
@maharanient66363 жыл бұрын
Yamaguchi is actually tall for Asian. At the present arc, his height is 180 cm (around 5'10"), making him the fifth tallest in Karasuno after Tsukki, Asahi, Kageyama, and Narita (one of bench guys).

I really love the fact that everyone in Karasuno is covering the back of their heads when someone is serving but when yamaguchi was serving in 23:38 everyone was in „fighting stance“ trusting yamaguchi and his serving

That rotation of Yamaguchi is one of the smoothest camera moves in this series and it gave me chills. I couldn't stop smiling and it made me think of James Baxter (guy who does great camera rotations). Actually Yamaguchi has a lot of these high quality animation moments and I think that's such a great idea. Like everytime Yamagucci is out the audience will anticipate something awesome (even if it's his failure or his fears).

the way you talked about how much it means to a player that a coach is there to watch them.. as a competitive player myself (not volleyball though), i can’t stress how right you are. there were times i felt utterly alone because not even my coach would come to my tournaments. it would’ve meant the world to me to see him there, even if he would scold me for my mistakes afterwards.

This is it!! This is the episode I've been waiting for Coach Donny to react to since he's always mentioning when will Yamaguchi have his moment 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@themocaw3 жыл бұрын
I think the initial idea with the two man receive was to hide Asahi and get him set up to attack, while using their two best receivers with the best communication to cover the ball. That worked when Oikawa was targeting seams and weak receivers. But at this point it's become clear Oikawa's goal is to crush it as hard as he can and give up some precision for power, so they need a third and ask Asahi to join.

I now understand why coach Donny is such a good haikyuu commentarist/reviewer/reactor: it's because not only he's good on noticing the volleyball details and making interesting commentary that shows us fans of the anime an extra layer of awesomeness the anime has, but he also has an understanding on animation as well, which also makes us fans appreciate a piece of art that Haikyuu is!! This comboes with who you are coach, making you unique!! That's what I think at least and why I love watching your reactions to Haikyuu!! Thank you so much for this work \o/ We love it :D

Hey Coach!! love the vids. Just a quick little bit of info, after the karasuno - seijoh match, there is a fantastic extra scene of one of the teams (i'm not gonna say which one), back at their gym. This scene is only in the Haikyuu movie at the very end (specifically the 3'rd movie, Haikyuu!! Movie 3: Sainou to Sense), and I seriously recommend watching it after the karasuno - seijoh game finishes!

I loved hearing you talk about how serving is solitary. I don’t know much about volleyball, but watching your games it’s obvious you put so much work into your killer serve!
