I agree! The organ was well recorded and the low notes really trigger my subwoofer.

Great recording! But it's interesting that none of the supposed "complete" recordings of Elgar's Organ Music contain "For Dot's Nuns". Dot was Elgar's sister. I know, it's a slight piece but it's complete in his style. It is published in the Novello Complete Works Vol. 36, along with Elgar's arrangement of the Loughborough Memorial Chime, another piece usually left out.

In the information about Elgar given above: " a touching expression of Elgar’s Roman Catholic faith." It is interesting that when he was informed he had Inoperable colorectal cancer which was discovered during an operation on 8 October 1933. He told his consulting doctor, Arthur Thomson, that he had no faith in an afterlife: "I believe there is nothing but complete oblivion."

I think the point is that the "Vesper Voluntaries" were written starting in 1885 when Elgar was still a committed Catholic. I completely agree with you that he changed his mind later in life.

Why did Elgar abandon his belief in an afterlife?

Great just great. Why is it that I find some interesting Catholic and some way or another they abandon the faith.

Overall a good recording although the finale of the Sonata is a bit fast for my taste. (Yes, I know it's marked "presto" but the music still needs to expand and breathe). Good to hear the Cantique getting an outing.
