Elgato really has their youtube reviewer game dialed in, and there have been a bunch of reviews of the WaveXLR out for a while now. But I've been waiting to for your review to know how it actually sounds, cuz you do such good (and trustworthy) work. Thank you for all your hard work on this channel. That was another great in-depth review!

this was a product I expected to be somewhat underwhelmed by compared to other interfaces at it's price range.... but... honestly.... this fits the use case it was designed for incredibly well. I personally need a more flexible interface from an I/O standpoint, but even with my additional needs for a combo of voice over and playing with instruments this is something I would consider as a pure streaming tool if I was making an income in that area and wanted to be able to store stream settings (for the combos of in ear/stream mixing) and a (good) mute button. So, well done elgato on a decently made very specifically targeted product.

Something people should know is that there is audio bugs even with the 1.3 version of the software. 1.2.1 is a decent work around till it's fixed. Basically, it's constantly resetting your windows audio. Streaming music, saved music, youtube, all unable to even attempt to play. Constantly loading or just straight says "Unable to play the audio". Saved audio just kept restarting @ 0.01 into any given song.

The interface will have zero impact on your ambient room noise. The preamp noise between the two interfaces appears to be about 2dBA, but technically the focusrite appears to have a slightly lower preamp noise floor. I think the Wave XLR is horrible. It has a high noise floor once you reach 50db of gain and the mic monitoring is terrible and the headphone audio volume is not very good too. You have to compromise on mic monitoring volume in order to get more volume for your headphones. You can't have both as if the amp is being shared between the headphones and the microphone. I used a Shure MV7 and a Shure SM7b on both the Wave XLR and the GO XLR and the Go XLR blows the Wave XLr out of the water. The Go XLR creates a so much cleaner sound and there's zero noise floor on the Go XLR. I ended up returning the Wave XLR and purchased a Go XLR Mini instead. I don't know if i was just using it wrong but I much prefer the Go XLR.

I really like this device in all honesty, but when all is said and done I feel like Elgato released this to specifically monetize their Wave Link software for alot more money than they normally would have been able to. With either the Wave 1 or Wave 3 mics, the software would let you use your own mic if you added it. The software is so good, just wish they could sell it separately lol. If I want to use the software with my own mic, I gotta buy a piece of hardware still? Come on maaaaan lol. All that aside, I'm glad they released this still. A step in the right direction.

16:15 As someone whose primary home mic usage is for remote work Conferencing, Presentation, and general voice communication with some side streaming mixed in, a physical mute button is pretty much mandatory. Nobody wants to listen to my dogs bark for 20 seconds while I hunt for the software mute, and knowing that I'm muted at the hardware level can be really important when having local conversations. I've been dying to replace my Blue Yeti for a long time, but because of my use nature, I was having a hard time finding an interface that would fit into my use-case. This looks like *THE* interface I needed. That capacitive touch, fade-in/fade-out mute feature is probably my highest priority, and knowing that it has the amps to run even an SM7b means I can keep my setup nice and simple. I'm not particularly fond of Elgato because I feel like they make and market products to "The Streamers(tm)" the same was Razer makes and markets for "The Gamers(tm)" -- That is, the bare minimum effort in terms of product with a dependency on the label to carry the sale. This interface however seems perfect.

The software features which come with this interface look cool and easy to use! However, the separate audio mixing for applications can be achieved with similar results by using an ASIO-supported interface and Odeus ASIO Link Pro software, which is used to route audio into virtual ASIO channels. Also a bunch of ESI audio interfaces (ESI MAYA22, for example) have DirectWIRE software driver with WDM, MME and ASIO routing options, unfortunately that one seems to be Windows-only.

Can you control studio monitors through this if they have usb? I figured I could connect speakers to pc via USB and then assign them to the system/3rd toggle on the wave xlr? I'm thinking for non-stream productivity - if I am video editing using speakers and a phone call comes through, I could mute the speakers with the wave xlr and put my headphones on? I know people have assigned usb mics to the device so I figure/hope you can assign speakers and use the 3rd toggle for them instead of stream mix? I suppose I could use the stream deck to mute the speakers but it would be great if they could be assigned to the wave xlr and use the volume dial and mute function.

Is the wave XLR and wavelink software better than using a Presonus revalator and other ways, like OBS filters to do EQ? I need a low noise floor and clean monitoring without hiss or buzz. Im currently using the blue yeti and it has a horrible noise floor and hissing and buzzing when using monitoring. I am trying to optimize my setup for -14 LUFS for youtube videos but am also considering voice overs and audio books. I am considering the rode podmic as its in my price range and sounds like it will fit my voice better, or the beacn as the total cost will be around the same. it would also be nice to have two xlr imports but I can always just get another wave xlr and use it if I decide to use xlr mics. If you could make a good recomendation I would extremely appreciate it! EDIT: So I didnt listen to the video all the way through while making this comment (dummy me 🤣) but you mentioned the wave XLR doesnt have more inputs for things like MIDI and other things and while I dont currently do that I dont think the wavelink software is worth not having the option like I will with the presonus revalator.

Eeeey, I have a physical mute for similar reasons, but mine is a pedal. Mine needs to be held, but it also can be set to pust-to-talk mode with a switch.

Nicely amateur-proof solution for streamers. Audient, SSL and MOTU build better interfaces but they come with added complexity. Once you‘re past the sound amateur stage however, you‘ll be better off with one of the more complex options.

The system delay is literally invalidating. Where are manufacturers getting the idea that an unwanted 17mS delay is usable in any music recording scenario? The USB driver is everything with any interface and this one fails.

what's the purpose of the actual device if you have to control everything with your mouse in the App? just connecting your microphone to it?

Have you ever done/considered a review of Voicemeter?

Not really much to review. And if you need setup guides, there is a lot of them on youtube. Voicemeter has been the cheap solution for a software mixer with multiple channels on PC. But its wonky, and I wouldnt trust it fully if you depend on it to make money. Seems even Elgato have some issues with their software, depending on the version you are running. Goxlr has also tried their own on making a software mixer, and for the most part its stable, but still not 100%.

Patiently waiting on your Presonus io24 review before pulling the trigger on the Wave XLR because I want to see which one plays nicer with an iPad Pro (USB-C). Pretty sure the Presonus is bus powered but not sure how much juice it draws and whether or not an iPad can power it directly via USB-C.

This vs the EVO 4? Seems more money for les inputs.

Do you need the software mixer part, today or in the future? If no, EVO4 is a solid option with more "home studio" uses.

Hi @Podcastage recently an update came out that officially adds I think VST 2 & 3 plugins to this interface and the Wave microphones. I'm not well versed in this space, but I believe this is a great addition.
