The worst news of the day was that Cole and Mikheyev were perfectly healthy.

Him continuing to play since January with a bad knee is idiotic. They'd done well enough in the standings they could have afforded to rest him. Him not being healthy enough to produce in the off-season doomed our season. Even if we dropped all the way down to wild card a healthy Petterssen would have given us a much much better chance.

You gotta admit it's also kind of impressive that on a flat tire, AND dragging the dead weight of Ilya Makeyev around all season (except his January stint on the Lotto Line), he could still be a legit top line forward and produce 25 points in 30-odd games. Very gutsy performance, even if, in the long run, it would have been more advantageous to sit out some time. But maybe they knew it would take the rest of the season to heal up anyways, and if he sat, they'd have to admit why and that would make his knees a target for the rest of the season.

@@Seriously_Unserious they wouldn't admit anything. All they ever say is lower body and upper body. But yeah I don't blame Pettersson. As an elite athlete he'll want to play. Up to the coach and medical staff to tell him to sit.

The all in mentality of the organization and media and fans had them seeing dollar signs... It's just short sighted and pathetic. Nothing has changed with this organization.

@@Seriously_UnseriousThe organization signed him and he had more chances in the playoffs than any other Canuck. The difference is that his shot is poor and has nothing in his tool box to beat a NHL goalie 1v1

Should have gone on LTIR, then signed a big free agent, and then come back for the playoffs. Vegas would never have let an opportunity like that go!

And why did he play for that 4 months? He could have easily went on LTIR and thus freeing up cap space to bring in more impact players for the post-season. The Canucks wouldn't have been forced to send away Kuzmenko to Calgary, a player they might have been able to somewhat use in the playoffs and could have easily traded away as an expiring contract next season.

Blame management... Clearly they do not know how to handle multiple things at once. Petty on LTIR would allow them to keep Kuzzy. They could have used his scoring touch in the playoffs against The Oilers... I blame Tockett for that garbage 🗑️

i dont think you can put him on LTIR just to free up cap space, sign a big name UFA, reactivate expensive petey in the playoffs again, & have all those high paid players playing @ the same time - that takes some fancy accounting tricks, i don't think you can mathematically/legally do it

They probably thought his knee would heal up in a few months. After it didnt heal during those months, it was probably too late and the playoffs were around the corner. Also, I wonder how sitting him out would have affected contract negotiations.

I’m guessing it’s a bone bruise I currently have on and it’s not enough to stop you from moving but does slow you down quite a bit bone bruise can take up to a year to fully heal so no point keeping him out of the lineup

Spoken like someone who's never had a bad knee before. I've dealt with a semi chronic knee condition that forced me out of my first job in labour, and I've played some ball hockey, and on a bad knee, you can't move like you used to, you can't get the speed you used to, and you can't shoot a puck (or ball) like you want to. It hurts and your knee will just buckle randomly, casing you to lose balance or fall and have no control over that.

@@kaylanclintc.s2051 I started to get into Ball Hockey in my late grades of high school, until a case of bronchitis put me out of action for the better part of a year. Was fun while it lasted, was on a team from a local community centre. One thing I did pick up while I was there is how much your legs and hips are involved in a good slap shot. and how much having a bum knee screws you up for things like shooting in hockey, swinging a baseball bat, etc. Without that good balance and source of power from the legs, you lose power and accuracy like crazy.
