Thanks for another great video! I'm going to try to get hold of some French Tarragon. I've been looking for it in the garden centres, but as you explained, it's not such a common variety to come by. We have a recipe for tarragon chicken and it would be fab to have fresh tarragon with it! As for tomatoes, my early sowing of the saved seeds from the supermarket plum tomatoes are doing ok. They haven't damped off (I've jinxed it now, haven't I?). They were getting a bit leggy and falling over as the stems couldn't support the leaves, so I pricked them out and simply made deeper holes and popped them back in with the leaves just a cm or two above the soil, so hopefully that will help them keep going. So much I'm eager to sow, but I'm holding off for at least another few weeks for most things. I'll get the charlotte potatoes in in another week or two. I've got red onions doing well in seed trays in the unheated greenhouse and am pondering whether I can plant them out, or if that's still too risky with the cold. Happy sowing!

Great video as always. I haven't had many frosts so far it seems. Greenhouse is sometimes close to zero overnight but recently it's been about 5º. I am probably growing too much but hey-ho, isn't it always the way? This year is different to previous years in that I'm growing flowers (beyond French marigolds). I have very little idea of what I'm doing but I've got the front garden, back garden and a living wall to fill with flowers and crops. I've got begonia, bergamot, cosmos, dahlia, gazania, hollyhock, wallflower, sunflower, lobelia, borage and more. That's on top of over 30 pepper plants (many to give away). I only have the same sort of space as you really. Got a new Vegtrug though which is really exciting. Oh, and I overwintered a basil plant and already have started taking cuttings - plus some fresh from seed. I guess I can see lots of pesto in my future. Quick question: when potting up for chilligrow of quadgrow, do you add coir, perlite or vermiculite etc at all. Instructions are saying to not add water retention stuff.

Hi I've just had a greenhouse and I'm loving it. I live on the south coast of England but I have never been able to grow spring onions. What soil should i use and what is on your soil is it straw?. I also don't know what to do with soil left over in pots/trophs from last year plants. Can I reuse or do I need to get new multi-purpose compost?. Only found your blogs yesterday and your so easy to understand unlike some gardening vlogs where you feel you need a uni degree to plant things😂x
@eliandkate2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lisa welcome to our wee community. Do I need to remind you to subscribe so you get notifications of new videos? 😂😂😂😂 Ok lots of questions and they have all been answered in videos so will I spoil it if I just tell you? Hmm ok quickly Spring onions, just put them in the ground, don’t get caught up in over complicating things. It’s rare you need to think about soil types… save that for when you have a bit more experience under your belt 😀 Straw - that just a layer on top of my beds as a mulch. There’s a specific mulch video if you need it 😀 Yup you can reuse soil from pots etc, you don’t need to replace it. You’ll see me talk about it a lot, but basically you might want to check it and pick out any grubs etc and you’ll want to replenish the nutrients with something like Fish blood and bone and add about a third new compost to put the organic matter back. My big piece of advice I always give is not to let thing become too complicate. Keep it simple, don’t stress and have fun

Thanks for another inspiring video!! I am a little stressed out by my San Marzano tomatoes that are getting quite big already. It is quite the experiment for me, actually. I took seeds from a San Marzano plant that I bought at a nursery last year, so I test germinated them on a towel and three of them sprouted pretty quickly. Since I had no idea how long all of that would take, I started early February and the two biggest are now beautiful and almost 20 cm tall :O So I'm a little worried about what I will do with them if they keep growing like this - and my last frost date is mid-May. They are going in a small unheated plastic greenhouse, but I suppose I'll just keep potting them up and keeping them in my south facing window (and under growlights as long as they will fit) until they're ready to go out?

Hi there 👋🏻. I have been enjoying your channel for a few months now as I’ve been learning all about growing from seed at home and I’m loving the videos. 🤗. I’ve got a question which doesn’t really belong here, but I thought I’d ask on your latest video. So I’ve been sowing seedlings gradually this month using John Innes seedling compost and things have been going well. A couple of days ago I sowed strawberry 🍓 and carrot 🥕 seeds using the same module tray, but sowing separately if you know what I mean. I have noticed that there are very tiny little wiggly bugs in the soil and am unsure what to do, they’re hardly visible to the eye and I haven’t noticed them in any of the earlier sowings. I’m wondering if they are in the compost bag and may have just hatched, because it is very wet after being stored outside at my local garden centre. Or is this quite normal? There’s a lid on this tray at present and I don’t want them to spread to other trays, especially as I’m sowing indoors. Do I throw the tray away and the compost and buy new? I’d appreciate your thoughts if you see this and have time to answer. Thank you 😊
@eliandkate2 жыл бұрын
yeah sounds like you've got some sort of larva in the compost which is more common than you might realise. This is one of the reasons we sterilise our compost and seed sowing mixes before we use them. If the seedlings are big enough to move to another pot or tray I would but I'd make a point of sterilising any compost before I used it again

Do you reccomend that i stick with the basic kit or buy the additional water tank? Thanks Lynda
@eliandkate2 жыл бұрын
kinda hard for me to say - I was fine, but obviously, the amount of water needed would depend on how much water the plants use. SO depends on the plants, your temperatures etc I was fine with standard quadgrows when I went away but that may have just been because it wasn't particularly hot the week we went away If you are worried might be worth going all out, to be certain?

I am coveting a Vitopod! Is there anybody who would ship one to the United States?
@eliandkate8 ай бұрын
Afraid the cost of shipping would make it ridiculous It’s just a heated propagator…. I bet you could get one in the states 😁😁

HOW MUCH WATERING DO YOU TO EARLY DIRECT SOWED CARROTS AND PEAS?
@eliandkate Жыл бұрын
Only as much as they need. At this time of year my soul doesn’t usually dry out to after an initial watering in, I may not need to water again for a good while. You just have to gauge how moist your soil is as you would at any time of year

@@eliandkate thanks, you all. I am blessed with sandy soil, much sun, but wind. Looks like I will have to carry water or wait for irrigation water sometime in April. I appreciate you. Kennewick, WA USA.

Their behind you! Haha Still got so much to sow but sown lettice carrots, peas, beetroot, pumpkin and courgettes. Loads of flowers too. Want to sow my brassicas but that will have to wait till the end of the month, along with the sweetcorn and dwarf French beans.

I’m doing dwarf French beans too 😀😀

@@eliandkate love French beans, will do a few rows down the allotment. It's the fun juggling act now of finding space for what you have started. My coffee table is covered with heated matts and grow lights.. haha

Could anyone recommend a good cut and come again lettuce?

Honestly I've always loved the cut leaf mixes - a ready made salad in a tiny packet of seeds!
