Hi, can we compare Elijah Craig vs Johnnie Walker or not? They are similar whiskies or totally differnte?
@BottleRaiders7 ай бұрын
Truthfully, that comparison doesn't make much sense on paper - one is a bourbon whiskey and one is a blended scotch whiskey. Other than being whiskey, the similarities in flavor and production aren't really numerous.

C923 is amazing. A124 doesn’t match C923 but it’s a solid pour. It’s still much better than a lot of similar priced bourbons.

Placebo is everything in whiskey. It’s wild to hear the rumors turn to doctrine. Dudes pretending to be world class tasters.

I said this on Jason’s (M&J) video and I’ll say the same here: I’ve had store picks that are 10 years old, and younger, that were very good. As long as it’s good, the age and proof can vary, in fact, it adds to my interest in getting each new batch, not all being the same

This is like every other bottle out there you have people who like it and you have people who don't. If a hundred people sat down to taste this there would be certain percent that love it and there would be a certain percent that don't love it and the reason is palates are very different in everyone and peoples opinions can be swayed by others just by describing their tasting notes. So if you are by a individual giving negative points on a bottle some will agree and just the opposite for some hearing positive points on that bottle. The power of suggestion runs rampant in the whiskey world. Enjoy!!

Not having had this and having had the C batch last year, I feel like people put way too much into 1) age statement and 2) proof point than they should. I am curious about the composition of past batches of ECBP while it maintained a 12 year age statement... but at the end of the day, what matters is what is in the bottle. Everyone here has had a 10 year age stated bourbon that has blown them away, let's not apply a double standard to Elijah Craig. If it drops off significantly, then sure...

C923 is everywhere here in Maine even still. Guess I should grab one

You gave this a 8/10 rating which is (Excellent)| “Really quite exceptional.” on whisky raiders which I know you don’t give away unless the quality/taste is there. $75 for a 8/10 barrel proof bourbon seems like a clear winner to me🥃

ECBP’s are still one of the best values in whiskey. They are always good. Some are better than others but they are good nonetheless. Cheers

You're more spot-on with your review than other reviews I've seen, which called it overly spiced and didn't like it. It is different than other ECBP in taste. Very easy to pick out in a blind. I like it.

How do you ever expect to get views by giving a reasonable, honest review of this batch? The public wants hot takes, conspiracy theory, and unfounded allegations! Jeez. 😂

I love EC 923 but to be honest it's a Friday night pour and a special occasion pour. May have to get A124 as I like the baking spices type palate

IMO, all EC BP’s are good; some are just better than others. Of the 2023 releases, I preferred A123. C923 was my least favorite. Too hot and bitter. 🥃

I don't think discussing micro blends is "silly" when you can easily see and taste the differences in a blind flight of the various c923 bottles.

@@BottleRaiders I've done it myself after hearing about it. I had 5 bottles of c923 and 4 of them had similar codes on the back so I ended up trading 2 of those for 2 different codes for a total of 3 c923's with different dates. Two are similar but maybe different enough for someone with a more refined pallette could distinguish but the third one is flat out different in taste AND color and not for the better

The "old whiskey doesn't mean better whiskey" crowd has no comment about why the younger ECBP's are so much worse than the older ones.

Facts.
@Joser1678 ай бұрын
Poor management of the barrels is also something to take into consideration. Yes, older whiskey doesn't mean that it's good and the same can be said about younger whiskey if barrels are not managed properly.

@@Joser167 I mean, there’s not much managing to do aside from letting the barrels just sit there and do nothing, and very occasionally moving them.
@Joser1678 ай бұрын
@thomasmichael6509 You mean what? Do you think moving barrels around and storing them is all? Construction of the barrel, staves, barrel char, entry proof, environmental factors, tastings, and relocation are all variables that are taken into consideration. So yeah, it's not just moving a barrel around and leaving it.
