Throughout the Originals Elijah holds back everytime Klaus has a problem and wants to fight him he fights him fair but I think it’s in season 3 Elijah tells him “I’m done defending you if you want a fight let’s fight brother” they have a brawl at the Mikaelson home and Elijah kicks the absolute sh!t out of him and Klaus ends up running. Elijah’s really the only person who always gives Klaus a hard fight and it frustrates klaus because he knows Elijah toys with him at times like brothers do and knows he can get his ass kicked by him.

Not only can Elijah be weakened by sun without his ring, he is always weak to vervain, where as klaus needs mix of vervain and wolfsbane to be weakened, and even then its hard to stop him, we know this from when Hayley was weakened by a mix, it was state that the amount she was handling could kill an entire pack of werewolves. Yet to her it only weakened her.
