To get more clearance underneath, you can lay some 2x lumber flat on the floor where your wheels stop and you get a 1 ½ “ boost to get the arms under the frame. Add layers as required.

Elin, good for you on (finally) getting a lift for your shop. Now, you really need to find a sturdy 'coffee table' that you can add castor wheels to; then you won't have to bend down to pick up parts and tools from the garage floor while you are on your shop stool beneath a car on the lift. ALSO, YOU WILL NEED THE TABLE SO YOU WILL HAVE A HANDY PLACE TO SET YOU BEERS! LOL

Uplifting video 😂 I remember drivers parking big long American cars in a small garage, they would hang a fishing bobber on a string from the ceiling, adjusted to tap the windshield at the rear view mirror location. This would tell you when to stop and if your where centered properly. Then your garage door will close. Perhaps you could do this to find center of your lift. We also drove up on a 2x6 short tapered planks to raise a car to permit the jack to fit. Zoom Zoom 😂

Great add to the shop, Elin. Easy way to level two sides would be to add 1/2" steel squares mounted semi-permanently to jack pads on inboard (lower) post. Next, measure clearance between fully lowered pads and car frame, can then add wood blocks on top of pads to achieve maximum height before hitting ceiling. Careful not to bonk your noggin when scooting around under car. Do that a couple times and you'll be investing in a hard hat!

Hi Elin. You have come a long way from those early days fixing up your Spitfire back at AHA when I started following your channel. Great to see you developing your business and making it a success. I am sure very soon you will need a new bigger workshop. I fear it may be sometime before you get chance to finish that GT6 there is always going to be another paying customers car to work on first, which from one small business owner to another is the most important aspect of running your own company. Keep up the good work.

You are going to love it. I’ve used one for years in my single bay garage. Solves a lot of problems. I set mine up to reach the frame on the Spitfire and that also worked fine for the Stag. Just had to roll the car a little to swing the arms in. Also, I drilled extra rest holes to get the right height for axels, etc. Maybe we will see an installation at the Tushmahall next.

Hi Edward, I had first dibs on this one but decided to pass…it’s pretty tight in my garage and although the posts are moveable, I doubt I would want to go to the trouble. I’m glad Elin has it. He will get way more use out of it than I would and he’s very deserving of it.

@@cheftush deserving for sure. And I will say that although they are moveable , you have to have somewhere to put them! Although, Elin was looking at how high he could have it, I find it useful to raise the car a bit to work in the engine bay or on the sills etc, thus the extra rest holes. You guys certainly set the standard in working on these cars.

I feel your excitement for the new lift. When I got one installed in my last garage it made everything I did easier. My new garage will have one installed soon. I placed a 2X2 steel bar with some 1.25" short pipes welded in them across the lift arms to pick up on the frame of the spitfire. I wasn't comfortable lifting on any part of the body or outriggers. Takes a moment extra to install them, but works perfectly.

Hello Elin, did you verify how strong is the cement floor. Did the instructions of the equipment give you that . Take care about the weight, floor and equipment. Is only a suggestion of care for you.

You could always use a speed brace to wind nuts and bolts down quickly before final torquing.

Sitting down on the job again Elin?😂 Should make things a lot easier for you. You mentioned about marking the floor for the cars? For inspiration, maybe head for your nearest major airport and look at their markings for the jet bridges.

When you raised the lift without weight, pressures probably could not equalize. I'm betting with the car on it, the two sides lift more equally. Good shop addition !

Brilliant Elin.. The only alternative I found was digging a pit.. But that has many 'pitfalls' including considerable costs and having to judge the depth to suit the height of the person standing in it by employing movable step-up- step-down systems. Then there's access to all your tools, etc... The Maxjax is an excellent compromise.

Great investment, it will save you time and make many jobs easier. To lift the Spitfire could you insert another set of anchors for one post further in i.e make the gap narrower. Then when working on the Spitfire move one post to close the gap. A bit of extra work but worth it for safety and for positioning on the car frame.

I use a 6x4 wooden block cut with slope's and drive low cars on them to get jacks/ramp arm under them. You may find your floor isn't level that's why the arms sit at diffent heights

Equal number of shims on every bolt would raise one side the required amount.

You may add two i-beams across from arm to arm to get lifting points under the x-frame - and gain some lifting height too .... Just a bit more handling but maybe woth it.

Excellent choice…I feel your joy. Thanks so much for the excellent videos. I know you will know but a thought with those hard to weld awkward places I have used a stick welder with the electrode bent at an angle. I also agree mystifying how triumph put those hidden welds on the inside T shirt in your excellent video of the repair TR6 chassis. Have you had any further thoughts on this?

What if you mounted the post by the column in a fixed position, but installed a second set of holes to mount the wall post closer together for smaller cars?

Well, I also never knew you could get lifts designed for lower ceilings… Been straight on researching what you can get in the UK, so you might be being a terrible influence on my bank balance Elin :D

You can buy a maxjax in the uk the distributor is in Netherlands so it comes from there
