"Ready for paint" became a joke now in the shop, because two cars that were supposedly ready for paint had to be re-worked and I spent countless hours doing metalwork again. Well this one, this time is really ready for paint.

That is a big accomplishment, getting the car that far! I enjoyed watching the repair of the doors very much. It was a treat to watch you and Tush at completely different stages in the restorations this morning. Thanks much for the update!

Yes, getting the parts together into a complete car feels very nice. Especially when I've never seen this one in one piece. We bought it in boxes and containers :) Tush is still in demolishing mode, but he did a smart move putting the TR3 on hold. Now he can focus on the TR250 and soon he will be ahead :)

I have found the fastest way to strip paint without leaving grinder marks that are hard to remove is to use a 7" or 8" rust stripper disc on a rotary buffer. I got mine from Eastwood.

Great work fixing all those "fixes" from the other guy, and nice work getting this all together here! As bad as the previous restoration of our GT6 was, at least the guy riveted the aluminum patches to the car, lol! We too continually say that we have finished the body work, only to discover something else :) looking forward to seeing this beauty back from paint!

Yeah, I can't wait to see her back too. But I wan't to finish my spitfire engine before that, because once she is back I will have to be 100% on her to complete the restoration. I am still waiting for the part 5 of your series :)

Superb Elin, I love seeing all the different paint shades - makes me think of the cars history, stories to tell I bet
@RustyBeauties7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I love the history too. I once restored a 100 years old sewing machine and found some labels and logos of different sewing facilities, I did a research and managed to track some of the owners and even visited a shop in Toronto that owned it 40 years ago. If I can do that with cars I would. If I only had time...

Hi Elin, Have been going through this all the videos. They are really helpful as we have just started our own restoration on a 1971 TR6 that need a lot of TLC. Les. UK

Good luck with it Les. This project was stalled for a long time, but I think it will come back to life soon, so stay tuned for more videos

Good morning- I'm enjoying your videos before Tush's for a change, mostly because I saw evidence you were working on engines. I do loves me time laps engine builds! BTW, when you were stripping the door, I believe the first red coat is primer. I have that also on my TR6. Last week you inspired me to go push mine out of the garage and start prepping the engine bay for paint. What I thought was rust in the nooks and crannies of the inner fender was actually years of caked on greasy dirt, baked by the exhaust mani. I used simple green to clean things up, but still had to use sand paper in spots. I'm learning as I go, and after cleaning I see that the original paint looks pretty good! I can't wait for the weather to dry out a bit so that I can prime and rattle can the bad parts. Cheers!

I am really happy every time someone gets back to their project or even gets a new one inspired by my videos. Every last one of these Beauties deserves a good care. I am trying to take care of as many as possible, but obviously I can't save them all LOL. So thank you for helping me :)

looks good, the final body work is the part I love the most, but I learned it in the 70s.
@RustyBeauties7 жыл бұрын
I'd love to learn that too. And I am trying, but it is so time consuming.... And I can't afford spending hours and hours on a single panel trying to do what the paintshop will do in 30 minutes. So let them do it and I will move to the next project. One day when I retire maybe...

Oh P.S. we found a new disk for the angle grinder recently which works amazing to strip paint and rust... it's called a strapping disk, and I think we got it at Princess Auto... just thought that may help you for next time! Cheers!
@RustyBeauties7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Mike, I was looking for this disk when I got the little ones. Unfortunately they didn't have it in my local Princess Auto and that is why I got the 2" ones, but they were way too small. They work well, but I had the feeling I was coloring the door with a pencil LOL

Elin ,on a safety note , angle grinders turn at a very high speed and in my experience are not suitable for wire brushes ,look at the speed the grinder turns at and then check the maximum speed the brush can go to , it should be stamped on it somewhere ,the brushes iv'e seen usually go to no more than 4000 rpm and angle grinders are much faster than that . If they start to break up ,bits of wire flying about are not good for your eyes or anywhere else come to that

You seem to be so patient with setbacks. Are you always that cheerful or are there sessions of you swearing that have been edited out? btw I have become a great fan of your work.

I am getting upset sometimes, but I know that it won't help so I just get to work and do what I've got to do. Swearing is just to release the pressure sometimes, but I prefer to stay on the calm side. Thanks for being a fan!

LOL. It was a long story with the paintshops and this car. Went to one, came back horrible so it went back to another one and sat there for months! But finally it is back and I already stared the final assembling. So there will be more videos for you to watch. Just like in your case I haven't taken this car apart. It came in boxes. So now I have to figure out what goes where. We will learn together :)

nice job , outsaid dor paint , okay , but insaid what ?, rust start , cos metal is naked !!
@RustyBeauties7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your constructive criticism! Well, I did prime the inside too, but I didn't show it in the video. But you are right, it is very important to take care of the inside as well. If you watch my earlier video about the rockers you will see that I painted them inside before I welded them to the car. Check this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH-5o2xuma94eJo
@laselva97 жыл бұрын
the more Handymen, will neglect the inside part Furthermore I do not see the customer! , Moisture, dust, naked reconditioned metal so starts the rust. What does it propose for the protection of these parts, since they are internal and can not be processed correctly! , Maybe a waxing? , thanks
