Not with lithium ion batteries and a subcontracted AC induction motor from say, Tesla: For a piece of the action Elon Musk might cut a deal as a shareholder (and he has factory space). I really can't see how an electric version would flop - but this gasoline version is designed for off-the-shelf infrastructure as an immediate priority; which is the most practical strategy for now.

This will make for a great commuter car because I see huge trucks, SUV's, mini vans, cars and even smaller cars with one person in them driving to work. This is what most people need for getting to work or running errands.

Also, I see what looks like exposed rotating axles in the front...if so, they may need to look at putting an outer tube over those. Road hazards may get caught up in those. Put it this way...good thing cassette tapes are mostly obsolete.

I think it is advisable to put lights on both front fenders. Pedestrians and other vehicles will mistakenly assume the safe distance is measured by the body of the vehicle and not the fenders.

Since so many people have made a deposit without a test drive, if and when the vehicle is finally delivered, I predict we will see several of these for sale as used vehicles because the buyer was dissapointed with something about it. I for one would love to have one and plan to wait for one to show up used and buy it if I like the test drive. :-)

So I have been wondering how resistant they are to damage from potholes, In nova scotia about where I live 8" deep holes in the middle of the road are pretty common in areas with speed limits up to 90km/hr The kind of holes my 2010 cobalt hits hard enough to give you a good jar. My father wrecked a tire on the roads near I live going 60km/hr in an 70km/hr zone putting enough force to slightly bend the rim (but it's still useable) on his 2006 optra with low profile tires. Also does the elio come stock with a low profile style tires or more traditional ones. And is there any options when it comes to wheel and tire types?

Elio I hope you are reading this because this is a safety concern. This vehicle NEEDS to have a light on the front wheel covers because at night other drivers won't see them. The Can-am has them. At LEAST put light reflectors on the back and front of these wheel covers.

robert hoffman the old ones had geo engines, etc. The new engine is one of the things new with this set. So the question is how their new engine changes the experience from the old prototypes with 20+ yr old engine designs. Small engines have come a long way in 20yrs.

Ok, as a _huge_ Aptera fan I was a bit skeptical, but after watching the review done by 'ChrisFix' in June I've got to say that this little thing would make a *great* third car for us. Not sure that delivery will happen in 2016 and the $6800 price tag seems low, even for such a basic car, but for Elio to get this far, most impressive.

America needs something like this. everywhere else in the world is fuel efficient because motorcycles are alot more common and with theese as competition and a similar price point I can see them doing well with the people that fear motorcycles in America. solid concept. I'd put a sunroof option and the standard transmition.

Spartin11794 this is still way behind motorcycles, we can park wherever, filter throw traffic, lightweight, Maintaince is cheap or can be done by yourself, you can get one for half the price of that, with the speed of a porche. this is still as bulky as a car. Even if they claim that it gives 84mpg you have to ask "under what circumstances". remember when someone sells something they do the best they can to get good numbers. and let's say it can do 8mpg, the 2nd question is, well how many gallons can it hold per tank.

I just watched on by Autobytel that was great =) Their Facebook page is very busy, and responses to questions are pretty quick as well. Stable!... With the two wheels in front, it will not roll, like the Reliant Robin was prone to. Plus having front wheel drive, it will have an advantage of the engine sitting above the drive wheels.

Since the car is front wheel drive, the rear wheel will just follow on the center snow mound. Just as if the wheel was the first to run thru it. Ever drive on snow before anyone else ?

This isn't a "three wheel drive car".It is front wheel drive. And the third wheel in the middle does not "Bounce" all over the place. That is like saying that a tractor trailer rig will slide all over just because the trailer has no drive wheels... Yes there is the issue for the unenlightened driver, but having driven some of the older cars of this type, there is no real difference even in the snow, which I drive on all the time...

Since it is classed as a motorcycle, does this mean helmets will be required in some states, along with a special motorcycle license? Has there been discussion on if it can circumvent these issues? That could make the insurance cost of them very prohibitive as well, earl silly for younger drivers, and needlessly given the roll cage and air bags.
